Dakota Fanning is a new freshman student at New York University this year and with a career like hers, there’s no way we could have ever expected her to shack up in a dorm room. Now, I loved my dorm experience. I was all about the friends and being involved for the first two years, but I was living in such a small space and sharing bathrooms with everyone on my floor. Those weren’t exactly the best perks about dorm room living. I suppose Dakota weighed her pros and cons and decided that her two bedroom / two bathroom apartment with 27-hr doorman and a sundeck was much better than on campus housing and after seeing photographs of her apartment – I think I can agree.
It’s not known if she has a roommate or not, but I would imagine little sister Elle would sometimes crash with her. The apartment is $8,400 a month and happens to be the same building that Mr. John Mayer lives in as well. Any chance I can find an apartment like this for a price that is much less in New York City? One can only hope.
Fashion Week (or as like to call it – Fashion Month) is about to become much more pretentious than ever before. Fashion Month works because none of them overlap. First comes New York, then comes London. After that, we have Milan and Paris is last. Turns out, Milan is not happy with that arrangement.
Milan has reportedly decided to place their Fashion Week in dates that would conflict with both New York and London’s fashion weeks, which is going to send every fashion magazine into a frenzy. Milan is essentially giving them an ultimatum and trying to prove who is most powerful out of the fashion capitals.
For the first time in the history of Teen Vogue’s Fashion University, the program will be available online for those who cannot make the event in New York. For a price of $24.95, you will be able to stream the entire event and listen in as designers, editors, and those involved in the fashion industry share how they got their start. You can watch the event on October 22nd or at your convenience after the event has already happened. The early-bird price expires October 15th so sign up today!
And I will not be participating at all. A couple of weeks ago when the events were posted, I found myself getting a little excited over them envisioning myself making my little schedule and anticipating my first Fashion’s Night Out. Then I let the idea simmer a little bit during that time and when I thought about it some more, I became exhausted. Fashion’s Night Out first started in New York and has since spread itself over to every fashion capital in the world and even the Pacific Northwest. While I have to commend the event organizers for stretching themselves out to Seattle, I can’t help but feel that New York is still partying harder than we will be over here. Regardless, I’m sure the event will go on without me and be fabulous nonetheless so if you haven’t made your plans yet – start hitting those stores and find out what’s going on in your area.
As I was laying in my deathbed the other day recovering from Bumbershoot, five feet away from me Veronica shouted “KATIE! COLLECTION POST! When are you going to change your header?” I’m not sure if many of you realized this by now, but Veronica is one of the few people I listen to when it comes to Yow Yow. Oh and I also listened to Evan when he told me the other day that my Foster the People rant was “SO HIPSTER,” which made me so self-conscious that I decided to delete it altogether.
The road to recovering from Bumbershoot has been steady, but has obviously set me back a little bit. On top of that, I’ve also gotten some new hardware! YEAH! So I’m busy making transfers and starting fresh all over again. It’s safe to say that at this point, Yow Yow! will no longer be doing 17 posts a day as summer comes to an end. That’s right – it’s finally hitting me, but what an incredible last summer this has been for me. I am grateful to have had this opportunity to spend time with my family and friends and to actually have time to focus on myself more than ever. That’s not meant to sound selfish at all. Anyone that knows me will tell you that I am usually MIA throughout the school year (unless they work with me/have classes w/ me) because I am constantly on the go. For once, I got to experience what it was like to have absolutely nothing on my plate. I even got bored a few times – most likely during the time I spent writing those 17 posts.
Anyways, since I won’t be doing much posting over the next couple of days, I thought I would do a Collection post for all of you to enjoy!
When opening up their second restaurant Baohaus on 14th Street and 2nd Ave in New York, owners Eddie Huang and Evan Huang enlisted the help of illustrator and artist Sophia Chang to help spice up the presentations of their menu items. Inside the restaurant you will find Baohaus menu items accompanied by some famous hip hop lyrics and her own foodie-inspired illustrations. Why are these so cool?! I really wish I could own a piece myself.
OK, he didn’t really because the earthquake of the century happened regardless, but he did break up a fight yesterday. That has to count for something right? Well it looks like New Yorkers have some sense of humor because many of them took to Twitter for some Ryan Gosling-Earthquake related tweets. Thanks The Fab Life for this awesome picture w/ Twitter inset.
This post from Refinery 29 doesn’t have much to do with anything really except for THAT is my sweater. Refinery 29 caught Megan on the street and photographed her for their street style segment because her outfit is kind of awesome. Yes, that sweater looks just as good in real life. I love.
In case you’re wondering, it’s Urban Outfitters and was on sale last month for just $20 bucks.
Photographer Stephen Wilkes spent over ten hours taking 100+ shots in New York City in order to capture these images that feature both daytime and nighttime in one single shot. His collection, “Day to Night,” is a depiction of New York’s city life. Using almost 30-50 images that have been blended together, Day to Night highlights some of New York’s popular spots. The series will be on display at Chelsea’s Clamp Art Gallery starting from September 8 thru October 29.
Following @CondeElevator on Twitter is the time waster of the summer. If you’ve ever wondered what it was like to work at the illusive Conde Nast Publications in New York City, this is your in. The Twitter account is run by an anonymous source who documents some of the daily conversations that go on in a Conde Nast elevator for your entertainment and BOY is it entertaining! Oh yeah. I followed that account very quickly. Jump on the bandwagon here!
+Pool was created and designed by three guys who just wanted to swim out in the rivers of New York City without actually being in the river. Together, they have implemented a plan to create a plus-shaped swimming pool that is open to everyone. Having started this over a year ago, they’ve constructed the plans and raised a bit of money – but still asking for more in hopes to turn their dream into a reality. To learn more about the +Pool project, visit their website here.
