Noise For The Needy 2013

Having started my career in music and non-profits, Noise For Needy is an event that I am happy to get behind every year. The initial lineup was officially announced and it is packed with artists and bands that have so much potential. This year’s festival will take place in Ballard venues starting June 20-23rd and all proceeds will benefit the Ballard Food Bank. Below is the initial lineup, but if you’re an artist that still wants to fill a spot, please email [email protected]

Noise For The Needy 2012

To help raise money for the Seattle Community Law Center, the city’s favorite fundraising music festival, Noise For The Needy, will host a lineup of shows in June. The Seattle Community Law Center is “”a legal aid nonprofit that helps low-income people with disabilitied receive social security benefits.” This year, the lineup with include former Quadstock band, The Thermals, The Duke Spirit and many other local bands that we adore. Last year’s festival alone raised $23,000. It’s so nice to see the city incorporating music in order to do good. Check out the full lineup here.  Will any of you be stopping at any shows this year?

Noise For the Needy 2011

Before I get to hitting the books, I wanted to let you all know about a wonderful event that starts tomorrow! Noise for the Needy is a six day music festival taking place at a number of venues in the Seattle area that raises money for local charities.

“Proceeds will benefit Real Change, a reader-supported social enterprise that combines quality news, fearless social justice advocacy and non-judgemental, low-barrier employment opportunities for Seattle’s low-income and homeless people.

Every year, Noise for the Needy features local musicians and up-and-coming acts that are on the rise. This year, I am so happy to hear that my favorite Seattle University student band Kithkin will be performing alongside Ramona Falls and Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band on June 12th at my favorite all ages music venue The Vera Project. Also performing during this week is my dear friend Lizzie Huffman! Other bands you should check out include Brite Futures, Fresh Espresso, The Builders and the Butchers, and Ravenna Woods. For the full schedule and calendar click here.

Noise For the Needy is excellent at predicting up-and-comers! Artists and bands that have performed at the fest include: Baths, Boat, Common Market, Crystal Antlers, Fences, Feral Children, Goldfinch, Head Like a Kite, Hey Marseilles, Mad Rad, Matt & Kim, Miike Snow, Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head (now Brite Futures,) Post Harbor, Speaker Speaker, Talib Kweli, The Album Leaf, The Maldives, The Pharmacy, The Pica Beats, Throw Me the Statue, Tiny Vipers, Viper Creek Club, Visqueen, Wild Orchid Children, and Yacht. Noise For the Needy

I didn’t want to leave any festival out! I realize this is coming up pretty quickly, but I was re-reminded of Noise For the Needy today when I walked past Neumos and The Album Leaf on this poster caught my eye. While Noise For the Needy is no Bumbershoot or Capitol Hill Block Party there is no reason why we shouldn’t recognize it as a festival.

Here’s what you need to know: They are are a non-profit organization that supports a charity every year and hopes to raise both awareness and funds through performances by both local and mainstream acts. This year they will feature about 60 acts from June 9-13 for Teen Feed.

I used to work at a non-profit a few years back that hosted teen feeds and I cannot even begin to tell you what kind of impact it has had on the local community. There are many teenagers that aren’t as fortunate as we are and one meal can go a long way. Everyone deserves to be fed.

Bands you definitely don’t want to miss: The Album Leaf, The Maldives, Visqueen, and Tiny Vipers
