2 People 1 Life

[Jonas Seaman]

While having our slices of pumpkin pie today at High5, Kristina and I got to talking about our futures. I can’t even remember a a time when that subject didn’t come up in conversation because it happens on a daily basis these days. When we graduate this spring, her and I will both be on this pathway of paying off loans and all of that, but then we realized that that’s not the most expensive thing we’ll ever have to pay for in our lives. After paying off school loans, we will have a wedding, purchase a house and hopefully have our own families, which I can’t even begin to imagine how much that is all going to add up to nor do I really want to imagine that at this point. After the whole Kim Kardash wedding scandal, I feel like the whole world sort of got a little lost on what weddings were supposed to be about. It’s not about how much it costs and how lavish everything is and how many people you have in attendance, it’s about the journey.

I was touched by a story I read on Seattle Met Blogs today about a couple that has been married eight times in eight different cities including ours! Lisa and Alex love traveling and each other so much that they wanted to host wedding ceremonies all over the globe. At each location, they are enlisting the help and support of vendors to provide standard wedding norms such as a wedding dress, a photographer, food, etc. and are documenting their entire adventure on a blog. It was so sweet to hear that the two of them were able to use Pike Place Market as the setting of one of their ceremonies!

Read their interview with Seattle Met Blogs to learn more about how this project got started.

The Original Red Robin to close

The first Red Robin ever near the University of Washington on 3272 Fuhrman Ave. E is set to close at the end of March. Well sort of. March 21st,  happens to be the birthday of my best friend, who happened to work there for almost three years, at least two years. So Red Robin holds a very soft spot in my heart and although I’ve never eaten at this location, it is the first original Red Robin. Ever.

That’s like saying you’re going to close down the first Starbucks at Pike Place Market. That’s just not going to happen. Turns out the reason that the closing is happening at all is because the historical building that it is in is just getting too expensive, therefore, the general manager has decided “not to renew their lease”.

Some people are actually so upset w/ the closing that they decided to start a Facebook group about it in hopes to keep the restaurant open. It’s just the thing to do these days… click here to view.

Tom Douglas to open a new restaurant

Seattle produces good food. Can we all agree on this? I always enjoy eating out in Seattle. Though I’ve never eaten at one of Tom Douglas’s infamous restaurants, I know that he is one of the most amazing chefs in this city. He is the owner of Serious Pie, Lola, Etta’s, and the Dahlia Lounge, but he’s not stopping just yet. Tom Douglas will be opening a new restaurant located right next door to Etta’s near Pike Place Market. This will not be an extension off of Etta’s, it will b e a new restaurant completely.

Michael Jackson Flashmob in Seattle

On Michael Jackson’s birthday, fans all over the Seattle area gathered at 10 AM this morning at Cal Anderson Park to learn a choreographed dance to Michael Jackson’s “Beat It.” If you weren’t there, you weren’t officially a part of the flashmob and wouldn’t be able to join in on the dance festivities which occured at 1:10 PM, 2:05 PM and 3 PM at Occidental Park, Pike Place Market and Kerry Park respectively.

I love you Seattle!

Life as a Seattelite

“You have to be a tourist in your city at least once.” – Jeanette

A couple of weeks ago, Jeanette approached me about her idea of touring Seattle and spending the day becoming re-acqainted with the great spots in our city. She said that the last time she took a trip to Pike Place Market was so long ago and she had also wanted to see the Fremont Troll. I also wanted to share some of my favorite places with her too, so I lead her down Post Alley to the gum wall, Gas Works park, and downtown Fremont.

We had the most amazing day traveling all over the city, taking pictures and getting lost every second of the way.

The first set of pictures are just from something I created titled, “Life as a Seattelite.” Jeanette’s pictures are also used in this post.

It’s not every day that you see a film crew and with the most adorable kids.
