Fall Travel Diary

screen-shot-2017-02-28-at-11-28-30-am

Looking back on last fall, I feel pretty fortunate that I had a chance to travel to so many cities in one run with a career that I really enjoy. Growing up, I never traveled very extensively, but I always wanted a job that would not only take me to places, but allow me to see the cities that I was traveling to. When you’re thinking about a career before you even have one, you envision what your life might be like to have one of these jobs. Luckily, my busy travel season is just that – a season. Last year, I met someone who was previously a consultant and spent 4-5 days out of the week traveling for work. No, thank you. 🙂

This past fall, I spent nearly two and a half months “on the road” visiting Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Houston, and Boston (twice!) I have loved exploring America and I even found some hotels in downtown New Orleans
that I was going to visit. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to visit in the end but I would still love to go. Here are some of the photos I took from these trips; most of them just include the things that I ate, which as you can imagine…were a lot of carbs!

Philly was just the most darling. I really only got two days here, but I wish I could’ve stayed longer! What an incredibly beautiful city with so much charm to it.

Conflict Kitchen

photo cred | Today

There are two ways to attract me to your restaurant. 1. The food itself. 2. The reviews I read about it and other people’s experiences eating there. Conflict Kitchen is a concept that got me curious because it is a restaurant that changes its menus to reflect the country that is currently conflicting with the United States. Their current focus? Cuba!

I think one of my favorite restaurants back in Seattle – Coastal Kitchen – has a rotating menu, but the fact that you can learn a bit of history, culture, and politics from eating at Conflict Kitchen is exciting! Conflict Kitchen is located in Pittsburgh, PA. Check out their website and current menu here.

Google Pittsburgh

Seattle University loves Google. I mean it, they really do. So far at Seattle U, I have heard my professors discuss Google as a business and how great they are twice and have even witnessed a presentation by two employees. Granted, I fell asleep during this presentation, but they were still there nonetheless.

Everyone can’t stop raving about how amazing and jaw-dropping every Google office is and I can’t exactly say I am surprised. Look at how much money they have to work with! The Google office in Pittsburgh is built upon the foundation of the industrial time period with black and white murals and extravagant steel work.

Vader Project

While we’re on the subject of conventions…

Since it began in 2007, the Vader Project features 100 of the best underground artists and designers who come together for this one event to show everyone their idea of what Darth Vader should look like. Each helmet is customized with it’s own unique taste. Not only are they on display at various Star Wars conventions around the world, but they are now hitting museums, the first being at the Warhol in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
