The Weekend: 5 Things

Processed with VSCOcam with m3 preset

It’s been some time since I’ve had a weekend of eating, but that’s exactly what this weekend was for me. Ashley completed her 8-week internship at Stanford and to celebrate, we filled our stomachs with the most delicious food. Her younger sister was also in town so we made sure to take her to all of our favorite spots in the South Bay.

First off, My Lovecats ring finally arrived and I haven’t taken it off since…except in the shower because I am terrified of getting it wet. It is the most darling little ring I have ever purchased for myself and I am even thinking about making the move to additional stacks.

Currently Craving:

I’ve eaten at Plow in Potrero Hill several times and each time I’ve always ended up with meals that I have been satisfied with, but haven’t stuck around to be a regular order. Today, was a game changer. At brunch with Mandi, she introduced me to the fried egg sandwich and it was pretty much the most amazing meal I’ve had in a long time.

fried egg sandwich   two eggs fried soft, cheddar, aioli, frisee, crispy potatoes  11  add Nueske bacon  13.5

In fact, I’m craving it HARD right now because I had dinner at 4 and now I am starved. Not only do you have the option to add bacon to your sandwich, but you can also add avocado which we all know is like the sprinkles of sandwiches. It’s a little messy since your second bite might make your egg crack, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, it’s the best. Runny eggs. YES.

Bay Area Eats:

Long extended holiday weekends are perfect for brunch and there was no shortage of it this weekend. If I had to pick a very meal, it would be brunch. Hi. It include two meals in one – breakfast and lunch. Basically if you’re trying to be cost efficient by not eating three meals a day, you could eat two and it would be pretty much the same thing because you can eat your breakfast at lunch time. The logic is so clear to me somehow.

On Saturday, I went on a friend date with Francis where I had to choose our brunch spot and he had to pick our activity. Of course I chose Plow – my favorite brunch spot in Potretro Hill. This was actually the first place I went to with Kevin and Veng when I moved down here and on a whim and since then it’s been a favorite…this is my second time here. The wait is a little bit crazy, but I’m someone that doesn’t care about that that much. I’ll wait as long as I need to for good food even if that means close to an hour and a half. The first time I visited Plow, I ordered the Soft Scrambled Eggs, but this time I opted for “The Plow” because I really wanted some of their infamous Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. YUM. Francis got the Egg Sandwich which was a delicious gooey mess.

You can’t start an entire day of football watching without a hearty meal. I recently decided to start “Brunch Club” with two of my co-workers which involves me dragging them along to a different brunch place every other weekend. This weekend, we hit up Pastis French Bistro in Palo Alto – Tommy’s pick! It was such a gorgeous day so we opted to sit outside with a view of the farmer’s market. I ordered the Omelette de Campagne – Spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, and shallots, served with hand-cut potatoes. Yep, it’s a french twist on what I usually order – a classic veggie omelette.

Katie Eats San Francisco!

plow

Our first weekend in San Francisco was a success! I am very fortunate to have moved to another area down the coast known for their food and I couldn’t be more excited about my next adventure in the Bay Area trying out some incredible restaurants. We spent the entire Saturday exploring the city, but of course the only way to start off  a day like this is with brunch! Plow is a place that I have been reading about for at least a year now over in Potrero Hill. I ordered the Soft Scrambled Eggs with Cherry Tomatoes, light Goat Cheese, Chives, with a side of Crispy Potatoes and Toast. Needless to say, I was stuffed!

Now we know that food in the city is phenomenal, but I’m willing to bet that other places in the Bay Area could give the city a run for their money too. Venturing over to the Stanford area today, we stopped into Umami Burger (Yes – we talk about that place a lot because of Mayer Hawthorne!) and indulged. Feeling like a meatless Sunday, I decided to go for the Earth Burger which consists of a mushroom and edamame patty. Don’t let that redness scare ya!

Stay tuned for more adventures in me being fed.
