Weekend Update: Pete Davidson

https://youtu.be/GKaakjMVtyE

Pete Davidson is having a year, isn’t he? It’s amazing how every week he either a) manages to say something wrong or b) something unfortunate kind of happens to him. We will always be team Ari forever, but I do like seeing someone who has done wrong get in front of the camera and apologize.

SZA on Saturday Night Live

https://youtu.be/n9CcLElrG6M

Guilty: Turning down plans from two separate people so that I could stay in and watch James Franco host SNL and SZA perform on it! Not seeing her in concert when she was here in San Francisco earlier this year was a missed opportunity. She is easily my favorite artist of the year though and if you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon yet, better start now. SZA performed “The Weekend” (my favorite) and “Love Galore” last night.

Harry Styles – Ever Since New York

Okay, so we’re a little bit embarrassed to be posting this. I’ve never been a One Direction fan, really, but I watched Harry perform this song on SNL a couple of weeks ago and I was eagerly anticipating the release date of this album so that I could add this ONE song to my playlist. And… we also had it on repeat as I tried to fall asleep last night. Has anyone else listened to the rest of the album? I’m doing it as we speak and it’s not bad. It’s easy listening for sure, but I don’t feel the need to over listen to it like I did with Khalid. 😉

How SNL Transitions From the Monologue to the Opener

I’ve been watching Saturday Night Live since I was a kid and I think it’s a lot of peoples’ dream, like mine, to actually see a live taping of it someday in real life. Recently, Saturday Night Live aired a behind the scenes look at what it’s like for their team to transition from the Monologue to the Opener and it is fascinating to watch. The team doesn’t have much time to do it as they’ve only got as long as the intro lasts, but they begin moving as soon as they shout “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!” Then the countdown begins and I have to admit, as I’m watching the clip and watching them countdown, I’m a little nervous as to how they’re going to take down this huge wall in 25 seconds! Watching this program growing up meant a lot to me and my family. Even in college, if I was out, I would sometimes try to make it back in time to watch if there was an interesting host and especially if the musical act was good. However, there’s a lot that I never took into account that goes into making this production what it is and these transitions are a large portion of that.

ICYMI: Nick Jonas on SNL

Can you believe we stayed up for this ish last night?! Of course you can; it’s a surprise we didn’t set a calendar apt for it. I realized in watching this performance that Nick does this weird thing with his mouth when he sings… anyone notice that? Whatever the case, it’s what comes out of it that matters most, right?

Ariana Grande – Be Alright

Ariana officially released this song earlier this week, but we heard it for the first time during her performance on SNL! It’s a pretty simple song and doesn’t showcase a whole lot, but it’s such a great “feel good” song that we thought it was perfect for kicking off our Sunday and BIRTHDAY WEEK! It also just kind of goes along with how we’ve been feeling about 2016 in general.

Amy Schumer’s SNL Monologue

I didn’t get a chance to catch this when it aired last night, but this morning when I woke up all of the blogs were talking about Amy Schumer’s monologue. She was funny, as we all knew that she could be, but she also touched on a pretty serious topic as well which we really appreciated! Congrats to Amy on her first SNL!

Performance of the Day

So I missed Sia’s performance of “Elastic Heart” last night, but it’s a performance that I was looking forward to all week because Maddie Ziegler was going to be perofrming choreography alongside her. As expected, it didn’t disappoint. Is it weird that I felt like my eyes were glued to her moves rather than Sia herself? I guess that’s not so surprising because Sia herself was in one position the entire time and that was maybe done on purpose to give Maddie more of the attention.
