Quadstock 26

I still remember the early days of Yow Yow! and when I was a college student writing posts about Quadstock. Quadstock isn’t one of those things that defines me, but honestly, I wouldnt have minded if it was one of those things. I worked on this festival behind-the-scenes for two years and on my third year, I was running it along with my co-chair. It has been three years since I last did it and even though I’m very far removed from the Seattle University community and this organization, I still feel really proud of how far it has come and I get just as excited about the reveal of the lineup as I do for any other music festival. Beat Connection as a headliner is just downright amazing. They are well-respected within the Seattle music community and they’re going to do a great job of closing out the night. Also when I found out that SEAC was still doing the unveiling party, my heart skipped a beat because I’m so proud and thrilled that something I started is still continuing five years later!

Quadstock – and why you should go

We’re just two days away from Quadstock 2010 and this year is sure to be much more “epic” than last year’s. Nearly every student at Seattle University knows that there are two Quadstocks. One is the actual event. The other is an event not put on or associated by SEAC at all and is basically a party for the masses. Both are great and both cater to types of people with different needs.  I’d also like to let you know that you will be missing out if you choose not to attend this year’s Quadstock.

This year our Quadstock Chair has truly outdone himself. He has put together the best lineup that has ever come to Seattle University in the history of Quadstocks. Our main stage will include performances by Beehive, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Hey Marseilles, Dan Deacon, and

Tokyo Police Club!

We have touched based with a variety of genres including pop, hip hop, indie, local etc and each are bringing something new and fresh to the table. Hey Marseilles is a well-known local band from the Seattle area. Dan Deacon puts on the most incredible performances and this year Tokyo Police Club performed at Coachella and will perform at Bonnaroo– two very big music festivals [that you should know of]

Also, you should know that it isn’t easy planning a music festival. It has spanned over the entire school year and that it is also difficult to book musicians and artists because there is such a thing as tour dates, recordings in the studio, and contract bindings. It is not a job that anyone can do. And despite what you might think about us being a private school, we do not have infinite amounts of money.

Our chair has done a fantastic job! This year we are offering food from local vendors including Ezell’s, Dicks, Pita Pit, Jimmy Johns, and Mighty-O Donuts. Tickets are only $10! A ticket for a normal Tokyo Police Club show is $20+ but for this $10 price you are getting amazing food (lots of it!) and four other bands as well as being able to catch our wonderfully talented student performers.

Last reminders:

– If you don’t buy your tickets soon, they will probably sell out.

– We are not associated with the “other Quadstock,” but we are tempted to sell you one of our shirts for $20 when you ask us.

Quadstock is for Seattle University students and is not open to the public.

Twilight at Seattle University

There has been an Edward Cullen sighting!

I kid you not. THE Edward Cullen has a twin and he is a student at Seattle University. Pale skin. Thin lips. That weird hair. The pout. It’s all there, all signs point to positive.

Last night, at around 8:35 PM, I sat in the hearth for the SEAC Coffeehouse event watching the band Judgement Day perform when BAM! I get this weird feeling inside… like I’m seeing sparkles. I turn to my right and I see the Edward Cullen walking up the stairs.

However, this is not the first sighting. I have seen him around. Same description as before and he is never with anyone else, which makes me wonder…is his pseudo family around?

If I can snag a picture or maybe an interview, I will!

Out on the Town: 11/18

Visqueen is coming to Seattle University!

Get excited. This local Seattle band is about to blow up. I cannot wait to see them perform live tomorrow at the hearth – 8PM. Their lead singer Rachel Flotard recently did an interview on KSUB – Seattle University’s radio station and I am pumped. She seems like such an amazing woman who is so sure of herself and lives a truly inspiring life.

She recently was featured in Minus the Bear’s new song “Into The Mirror,” which I posted about… last month. Now she’ll actually be here. Just to jog your memory:

SEAC presents Visqueen tomorrow night at 8 PM in the hearth of the student center.

Opening Act: Chris Ballew from the Presidents of the USA is doing a solo act to open for Visqueen. He will be playing tracks from Presidents of the USA as well as his side project Caspar Babypants.

We will be having a raffle for a free show at Neumos and a $50 gift card to the Showbox.

Do we have your attention now?!

Fall Ball ’09

fall ball fish bubbles

This year, I had the opportunity of being a part of a great organization, Student Events and Activities Council (SEAC) planning Seattle University’s annual Fall Ball dance! Kind of a different change from the usual concert planning, but it’s going to be a great event and we’re all very excited for it.

Here’s what we have to offer.

Frequently asked question of all time: Can you bring a guest that is a non-Seattle University student?

Katie’s answer: Every Seattle University student is allowed to bring one non-Seattle University student. Please have your guest bring one form of ID with them if they are under 21 ie) license/passport. If your guest is over 21, they must bring two forms of ID (license/passport)

Reminder: Read the back of your ticket, there’s text there too!

A few things to remember before you leave for Fall Ball:

No bags. Girls will be allowed to bring clutches

Seattle University students must bring their ID

We reserve the right to deny admittance to or remove anyone who appears intoxicated to the point of ridiculousness or goes against the code of conduct. STAY CLASSY. Do not embarrass our school. The Aquarium is a great space and we would like to remain a great relationship with them.

No vomiting. It’s disgusting. We’ll make you clean it up.

Alternatives

Adam told me about a story in the SEAC office today that I had to blog. I’m surprised I didn’t find this sooner. These two men tried to break into an apartment with not a mask to use as a disguise but permanent black marker sprawled all over their face. uhhh nice try. NOT.

Facebook – Do Like

IMG_4273

I think I’ve accepted the fact that Facebook is a large part of our every day life. Some people check it once a day, twice or more. Then there are people like me, who have a million windows up and it’s always on a tab. That doesn’t mean I’m searching Facebook the whole time or playing Farmville for that matter, but should something occur, I don’t have to open it up and log in every time.

I was in the SEAC office today when I started to wonder more about Facebook. There are so many parts to this social networking site. Photos, statuses, groups, messaging, fan pages, video recording…

What do you love and hate about Facebook?

Personally, I love statuses and being able to update mine via Twitter via my phone. Here are what some other people thought:

LIKE “…the ability to hide people. It’s like deleting them but they aren’t really gone. You just dont have to hear about every single quiz they take or what they just had for breakfast.”

DISLIKE “fb chat acts up all the fuckin time. Just some of the tech stuff being slow, but what I like…statuses. I love statuses.”

DISLIKE “I hate how I can just sit on Facebook and it just sucks my productivity away before I even realize it”

LIKE/DISLIKE “I like all the hot sorortity girl pictures. I hate how lame pantolonoes it is.”

LIKE/DISLIKE “I love being able to keep in touch with people I have met in life- but hate the lack of privacy and hype it gets. (yet I still fall into its trap!)

LIKE/DISLIKE “I love the social networking and finding out when you have mutual friends with new people you meet. I hate the chat and how people find out things about you way too quickly.”

DISLIKE “I hate that it has become something that is such a basic communication part of my life, that I use it so much, and that it distracts me from other important things.”

LIKE/DISLIKE “I love when your family sees pictures of you wasted off your ass about to hook up with a random girl they have never met that you probably will never introduce to them. I hate the suggestion box at the top. Is it just me or are the suggested people I probably am PURPOSELY avoiding?? Seriously.”

LIKE/DISLIKE “I love that it is a new venue of humor and I hate that it sucks so much time.”

LIKE/DISLIKE “I love being able to contact my friends all over the country, and I hate that the government can spy on my life. You can quote me as Mr. T”

DISLIKE “I hate that you sometimes get on without realizing it. It becomes second nature to get on.”

Missing

I’ve lost my SEAC water bottle 3 times today. This is getting slightly ridiculous.
