South Korea’s Reminder Drones

After first implementing smart social distancing boundaries, South Korea returns with helpful reminders from their drones. It’s month four of the pandemic, but that doesn’t mean the safe habits stop. Using 300 drones, a number of colorful displays were created in the sky to show mask wearing, washing hands, and thank you’s. The weekend show took place over Han River for a 10-minute show in the city of Seoul. While it may be unconventional, I’m supportive of this organized effort from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to their citizens. To get a glimpse of what the show actually looked like to a spectator, here is the full video below.

A Massive Wave

An enormous wave installation has landed at the Seoul Aquarium and we can’t stop watching this video of it. From the outside, the waves look like they are contained to the glass structure and are crashing into the windows. However, as an individual walking by, the waves will look massive, but you won’t be able to hear the installation. That’s because the installation is an anamorphic illusion. Designed by digital agency, [District] the piece was created using an advertising screen.

Choi Jeong-Hwa’s 1,000 Doors

At ten stories high, this public installation made of 1,000 reused doors was designed by South Korean artist Choi Jeong-Hwa. The article I read speculates that this piece may have been installed back in 2009 near Seoul, but there’s no word yet on whether or not it is still standing. Remembering Daul Kim

Gorgeous model Daul Kim was found dead in her apartment earlier this week after hanging herself. Her death had been discovered after several messages she had posted on her blog “I Like to Fork Myself” hinted at loneliness and depression. Kim, was only 20 years old and just recently walked the runway at about ten shows this past Spring 2010 Fashion Week. Kim was raised in both Seoul, Korea and Singapore.

“South Korea, which has the highest suicide rate among the 30 nations in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, has had a string of high-profile suicides in recent months.”

This post makes me sad 🙁

Women In Heels

We are now considered a handicap.

In Seoul, South Korea, 4,929 parking spots have been designated for women who are wearing heels. Like handicap spots, these areas allow for a shorter trek so that women will not have to suffer from the pressure of their heels as long.

I’m down, let’s get this started in Seattle.

Nikon debuts new billboard.

To launch the new Nikon D700 in Korea, the company created a new interactive billboard that treats you like the ultimate celebrity!

Currently the billboard is place in a busy subway station in Seoul. As passerby’s cross the board, the board takes on a different form and the sensors trigger many flashing camera lights all at once. The not-so-subtle red carpet then leads the “celebrity” into the mall where they can purchase their very own Nikon D700.

Those tricky Asians designers… 🙂
