The O.C. – The 10th Anniversary

[vimeo http://vimeo.com/42540977]

In the midst on some craziness last week, we completely forgot all about celebrating the 10 year anniversary of The O.C. Not only did the television series provide a somewhat accurate representation of what it’s like to live in Orange County (kind of,) but they also paved the way for what would become some of the best soundtracks a television series could offer. The cast was full of beautiful people each with characters that were well-developed and complex throughout the season. Marissa Cooper, there is no one like you on TV and there never will be! Ryan Atwood was the bad boy turned sensitive bro and we loved every second of it. And last, but not least – Seth and Summer. There is no one more perfect for each other than these two. We laughed, cried, and were terrified for our lives especially during that weird “Oliver” period. The show taught us some incredible lessons – lessons at 13 that I am still carrying on in life today. I wouldn’t be able to tell you them right now, but we’ll save that for the 20th anniversary. So on this Wednesday – Hump Day – we are celebrating the anniversary. I’ve included the entire first episode above and we all know how great this pilot was so take 44 minutes out of your day, relax, and enjoy the show. Unfortunately, Mischa Barton spoke out about rumors of a reunion earlier this week and her thoughts that it should not happen. Really? It might do your career some good Mischa. Regardless, the show will live on and we’ll love it forever.

Welcome to the O.C. bitch.

And because we want this to come around full circle… my favorite clip from the last episode. Spoiler alert. What have you been doing with your time if you haven’t seen this by now?

Yow Yow’s Favorite New Couple

Just in time for Valentine’s Day!!!

Would you ever believe that The OC’s Seth Cohen and Gossip Girl’s Blair Waldorf would get together? Of course not, but now that it has happened, it is pretty much the best thing ever. Adam Brody is the ultimate dreamboat and Leighton Meester is just so darling that there’s no way this wouldn’t work out. Please get married now. I know I said I would never be happy if Adam Brody got together with anyone that wasn’t Rachel Bilson, but I am retracting that statement.

Adam Brody – Age 32 And Still The Best Looking Nerd Ever

I can’t exactly explain why Adam Brody is my dream crush. I mean I could try to explain, but I’m not sure if it would make sense to anyone. Adam Brody as Seth Cohen was a freakin’ dreamboat. He loved Death Cab For Cutie. Hello – Death Cab For Cutie is like the anthem band for any Seattle resident. Seth Cohen was all into his comic books. I knew my X-Men characters. His hobbies included skateboarding, boating, and being stealth. I’m not into any one of those things, but I can learn to appreciate it.

If Adam Brody would reprise his role as Seth Cohen in his own series, I would watch it. It has been five years, but his appeal has not faltered one bit.

The actor was recently featured in this spread for GQ and he looks damn good. Just sayin’…

Nerd Herd

On the season finale of The Glee Project, my favorite contestant Cameron returned for the final episode. While I was extremely happy that Damien took home the win, I don’t think I paid that much attention to him as much as I focused on the scenes Cameron was actually in. Bree and I agreed last night that while it is obvious that he is talented, there is definitely something that draws our eye towards him throughout the entire episode. Sure, it’s his voice and the hipster attire, but another part of me thinks that it is because he represents a group of people  that has never been a part of the in crowd: the nerds. There’s no one like him on Glee or even on television right now.

As we all know, I’ve got a pretty sweet spot for the nerds – as do many girls. Can you really find a reason to not like one? I mean, have you ever seen a douchey nerd? And I’m not talking about those pretentious characters in television shows, I mean in real life. They don’t exist! They never cheat, except for that one episode of Saved By the Bell. They are known for being the shy smart types. They’ve got a type of style that isn’t mainstream and they always seem to know what’s going on before everyone else. A blogger’s dream right? Today, I learned from HelloGiggles that there’s actually a distinction between geek, nerd and dork. Who knew, right?

In short:

“Geek- Smart but not awkward
Nerd- Smart and awkward
Dork- Smart in less useful areas, awkward but proud regardless”

Feel free to read the rest of the article here:

What I also recognized today was the similarities between a nerd and a hipster. The same transition process occurs when scenesters become hipster. In this case, you start out being a nerd and develop into a full-grown adult-sized hipster. I’ve decided to highlight some of my favorite nerds in this post, but I’ll let you be the judge as to whether or not they are really as hip as they appear to be.

I think I’ve talked enough about Cameron in the text above so I won’t exhaust you anymore. He is basically the proudest nerd I have ever seen promoting the “Nerd Herd” in his YouTube videos, on the television series, and even in his music.

[Michael Cera]

Self-explanatory.

It’s a Death Cab Post

Just because I wake up before nine in the morning doesn’t mean that I am able to fully comprehend any type of news or announcement until at least ten. It had to have been around 8:00 AM that morning when I received the news from my best friend that she had managed to snag a ticket to the secret Death Cab For Cutie show for the following Wednesday evening. Surprised to find that I wasn’t informed of this earlier, I googled the poo out of this news only to find out that at that second (well within minutes) the tickets had just gone on sale. I found myself on Ticketmaster debating with my best friend whether or not I would go for the next five minutes. As I tried to piece out my schedule, I came to the conclusion that I just couldn’t sacrifice an evening for this. Within that hour, tickets had sold out.

So I either made a really bad decision or… but there was no good alternative for me. I most likely had missed out on a fantastic show – the first show in Seattle from Death Cab in two years, the most anticipated show in the entire city, a secret show that I have always wanted to be a part of.

I can’t exactly describe what my relationship to Death Cab is like or explain to anyone why I like them so much. I have not been a fan of them since the beginning. I don’t even own their first album. Just because I haven’t been there from the start doesn’t mean that I have to like them any less. I discovered the band through the boyishly handsome Seth Cohen after he announced that they were his favorite band on the OC and when they later appeared on an episode to perform “A Movie Script Ending.” I didn’t attend their first show nor did I see the photos from it. They did, however, play their very first show at the venue that I used to work at – the venue that I considered a home. They built themselves up from a little known band to a band that can sell out a show in less than an hour. It’s been a long time coming for them, but they make me so proud to say that I am from Seattle. Over the years, they have been THE band for me and I’m not exactly sure what that means, but they are more than just the soundtrack to my homework and study seshes. Their performance three years ago moved me  to tears with my best friend and it’s not just because we were forced to crowd surf  from the first row at Bumbershoot right before the performance started. It’s an indescribable feeling and emotion and one that I cannot describe in words that are more honest and true than Stranger writer Megan Seling. So with that, I’m going to direct you to her review, which embodies everything that I am feeling.

Not gonna lie…I’m totally listening to all of the Death Cab For Cutie songs in setlist order straight from Wednesday night. [Source]

The Rules of a Gentleman

Seth Cohen may have said “Chivalry is dead, sugar” to Summer in The OC when he wouldn’t offer up his bed to her in TJ, but he is far from being right. I am sometimes such a snob when it comes to abandoning things that are old-fashioned, but some things never go out of style. Listen up guys! It’s time to start reading the blog “The Rules of a Gentleman.” Here you will find lessons in life, with women, and fashion.

Start taking notes.

Take That Kristen Stewart

“It’s only gotten worse, I’m sure, being a celebrity. At the same time, I don’t have a lot of patience for people who moan about it too much. Because there are many things you could do. It’s like, quit … you don’t need to be an actor, so it’s like if it’s that much of a problem … there’s the door.” – Seth Cohen’s sass on Kristen Stewart talking about how she doesn’t enjoy fame in interviews.

Oh the chivalry is not dead.

“Chivalry’s dead, sugar.” – Seth Cohen

I went to an elementary school where the boys were menaces. I’m sure this is why most of my friends back then didn’t start doing the whole “boyfriend/girlfriend” thing until fifth grade. The boys were bullies. They called us names, they cut in line, they were gross. It got to be so bad that I think even the girls became bullies.

I still remember it like it was yesterday…the day my friend decided to constantly burp in my face. I lost my patience and took my aluminum pencil box case and smacked him on the shoulder. How did it end? He cried. People shouldn’t mess with me – moral of the story. But then I cried for fear of getting in trouble.

But that was the last of my violent history, I promise.

Latin Teacher, Cord Ivanyi, of Gilbert Classical Academy has been trying to instill the values and importance of chivalry in her students after one day witnessing the boys pushing the girls out of the way when rushing to get through the classroom door. New classroom rules include: holding doors for the girls, asking girls if they would like to be seated, and removing the girls’ backpacks before sitting. Boys will also rise if a girl should leave the room and girls would be served their food first.

“All boys will understand chivalry,” Ivanyi told The Arizona Republic. “It’s teaching them social grace. It’s things they should know when they do go out on dates.”

Why Watch The OC?

Every time I come home for a weekend or for break, my OnDemand channel always let me catch up on older episodes of The OC. As I was watching two eps. from the second season today while eating breakfast, I started to wonder why The OC was so successful. I loved the show. Many people enjoyed it, but why was this show any different? Why is The OC more recognized than One Tree Hill or Smallville? These are the reasons I have come up with:

– The show was well liked by both males and females

– The show produced GREAT music. Indie rock at its best.

– You liked all of the main characters (Ryan, Marissa, Seth, and Summer)

Newport Harbor High was way better than your highschool ever was

– It introduced new vocabulary to your every day life like Christmakah, stealth, brooding, etc. We all know that you never used to say that until The OC came along!

Death Cab For Cutie performed on an episode

– It brought to light a new kind of humor

– They always rotated new characters in to create more excitement, but when you got tired of them, their exit timing was appropriate.

– They dressed well!

– You always knew in the end the Summer and Seth would end up together and Ryan and Marissa …sort of

The OC lasted four strong seasons – well maybe 3 cause Marissa died.

– Catchy theme song – Phantom Planet’s California

The OC launched the careers of all of the actors and actresses

The OC really stands for “THE Orange County,” making it sound 10x more epic
