Parental Career Involvement

In the new cover story for SPIN, hip hop group member, Ashok “Dap” Kondabolu of Das Racist, recalls the story of how he brought along his two parents to this year’s Sasquatch Music Festival in Washington where he was performing. When Kondabolu realized that he would not be able to celebrate his father’s birthday because of this performance, he brought the party to him. So did the parents get down in George, Washington. You know it.

Read the rest of the cover story here.

Well, this story is kind of precious. I briefly skimmed it, but am loving the fact that these two artists were able to share this experience with their parents. This is something that I kind of love doing with my own parents even though I’m sure they don’t enjoy my concerts or the music I listen to – it’s still important to me that they understand what it is that I do or why I love doing it. Someday, they’ll be able to take advantage of those benefits, but for now I’ll just string them along like Das Racist does with theirs.

Metric to Release LP

In an interview with SPIN Magazine, frontwoman Emily Haines revealed that Metric would be releasing an LP slated for Spring 2012. The last time I truly listened to Metric was probably back in 2009 for at least several months consistently when their album Fantasies came out. I actually heard one of their singles the other day in this video of Victoria Justice and Avan Jogia dancing and singing along to it and I had that “wait – where have I heard this before?” moment. I spent the next four minutes trying to listen closely to the broken lyrics in the song and then googling it to figure out the source and then was amused when I found out that it was one of my favorite bands! How do you forget things like that?

Today when I read this interview with Haines, I was reminded of my friend Veronica because she once told me that she was going to make a list of 100 of her favorite albums. However, an album would only count if she liked every single song on it. If she liked an entire album except for one song, it would not make the cut. So I remembered today that I wanted to do a similar list like that after reading this interview because Metric’s Fantasies really was one of those albums for me.

Gosh Veronica must have told me that two years ago I think.

Rihanna calls Taylor Momsen Out

For months we have been watching Little Miss Taylor run her mouth about how she cares more about her music career than Haiti victims, how she pleasures herself with a vibrator because guys her age are too immature, her preference to clothes at stripper shops, and the dreaded comparison between her and Smiley Miley. She has given us the most outlandish quotes and somehow I find myself still surprised. Every time she opens her mouth, I ask myself “Why hasn’t anyone said anything to her?”

I am pleased to announce that someone has decided to step up to young one – and that woman is none other than Rihanna. Not too long ago, Taylor Momsen had this to say about leather jackets, Rihanna, and blah blah:

“People think pop is rock, and the lines are getting blurred,” Momsen tells Spin. “Now Rihanna’s wearing f***in’ leather jackets, and it’s really annoying.”

Taylor tried to backtrack her steps by saying, “First of all I’d like to say that quote was spun… it’s a misquote. I was arguing the difference between rock versus pop and it’s a very pop-oriented world at the moment… We’re looking to bring back a real rock band and Rihanna – I wasn’t insulting Rihanna. Rihanna’s great. Love The Way You Lie is awesome. That’s a great song.”

Kiss enough ass there Taylor?

Rihanna was none too happy with the quote so she decided to seek out Taylor’s number to give her one clear message. A source revealed, “Rihanna did not take kindly to a 17-year-old making such rude comments about her, especially since they flooded the internet as soon as they were released. She got Taylor’s number through a friend and called her up, telling her to back off and act her age, Rihanna is not the kind of person you want to mess with.”

Oh shoooot… well until the next time Taylor opens her mouth I guess… [I hope never]

Stop it Rihanna

“People think pop is rock, and the lines are getting blurred,” Momsen tells Spin. “Now Rihanna’s wearing f***in’ leather jackets, and it’s really annoying.”

Can we get a recall on leather jackets? Taylor Momsen is the only person in the world allowed to wear them.
