Starbucks Disappoints w/ Red Cups

Red cup season. Is. Here. I want to say that I kept it cool and wasn’t all that excited about this transition, but that’s completely untrue. The day after Halloween, I had to drive up to the city and I was having a difficult time at the Starbucks drive-thru trying to decide which holiday drink I should be ordering (I considered having all four in the same day until I realized that was crazy):

  • Pumpkin spice latte
  • Peppermint Mocha
  • Chestnut Praline Latte
  • Gingerbread Latte

So many choices. While I was thinking about what drink I was going to order, there were lots of regular Starbucks customers that were furious about the red cup itself and why this year, it was a blank canvas and only decorated red without any other design on it. Yeah, that went completely over my head. On Sunday nights, I like to try and kick off the week with a little funny so here is one customer’s reaction to the whole red cup fiasco.

The Week: 5 Things

Woof! Well it feels like this week just completely flew by us. I can’t believe I’m starting over again tomorrow on a Monday and doing this whole thing all over again. This week was feeling particularly chilly…except for today because I’m sweating all over my couch in 80 degree weather right now. I don’t mind the one-off days though so earlier this week, I threw on my favorite Brandy Melville sweater and equipped myself with a Starbucks Toffee Nut Latte. I’m back and forth between Starbucks and Blue Bottle these days and not sure why I can’t make up my mind. I think it’s because I get Blue Bottle for free, but Starbucks gives me that suga suga that I need to function.

Review: S’mores Frappuccino

To preface this review, let’s start by putting it out there that I love coffee. I spend my days reading about things like Bean to Cup Coffee Machine – The Details. I recently found myself at Starbucks for a midday afternoon caffeine kick and while I was there, thought it would be a great opportunity to try the new S’mores Frappuccino. It wasn’t too long ago that we blogged about its new existence. I came into my local Starbucks and told them right up front, “I’m going to order the S’mores frapp because I’m going to blog about it.” When it arrived at the counter, the barista told me that she was a little nervous because she heard it was going to be on my blog. Poor girl. There was no need for her to be worried, as even though I had never met her before, I had every confidence that she could make the Frappuccino the best it has ever been made. As I have a couple of friends who are baristas too, I wouldn’t be surprised if she was required to take something like this Barista Course Melbourne located to enhance her skills to make her the best barista she could be. If anything, this is the time when I would really need her to be on top of her game because I simply couldn’t wait to share this Frappuccino with you all, and it just had to be amazing!

Basically the frapp is a “campfire in a cup.” It actually had a hint of a coffee taste in it and while it was good and sweet (exactly what I thought it would be) it was WAY SWEET. Like just filled to the brim with sugar I’m sure. I can’t believe I used to have frapps on a weekly basis back in college, but now I know why – because they got me completely wired. Do I think I would order this again? Probably not, but that’s only because I’m an adult and drinks like these would probably give me headaches. Did it taste like a real s’more? Absolutely. I also really like the crumbled graham crackers at the top for the extra added crunch. Also, I have just one little nitpicky detail which was that there was a glob of chocolate syrup on the bottom. Serious question – is it my job or the barista’s job to make sure that it is stirred in well? I had gotten a gulp full of it which really alarmed me.

Katie and the Coffee Factory

roastin

I had been reading about the new Starbucks Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room for the last couple of weeks, but having not been in the area, I wasn’t really aware of its location. After a brunch with some of my girlfriends this past weekend, Winny and Jennie told me that I couldn’t or rather shouldn’t really leave Seattle without seeing it and especially it being so close. Finding myself on the hill last night for happy hour and dinner with my other girlfriends Kelsey and Jeanette, I figured there was probably no better time to stop by. Driving down the hill, the store is difficult to miss with its illuminated logo. The area around it has also developed so much more in the last couple of years and there were people all around outside of the shop and a bustling crowd within.

It was surprising to see so many people at 8:00 PM in the shop, but it was packed. It wasn’t quiet, but it wasn’t loud yet there was so much commotion and a lot to be seen. I marveled at everything as if it was Willy Wonka’s Coffee Factory, which my girlfriends and I renamed “Katie and the Coffee Factory.”

You Better Work

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

I came into work on a Sunday yesterday to get ahead for the week and in a moment of weakness – or just a moment that I didn’t want to spend working, I took a snapshot of my desk set up. I’ve always enjoyed seeing how other bloggers arrange their desks and find it interesting what people generally keep on them. The Essie nail polish should probably come home at some point, but the soap was a gift from my manager from Paris and generally makes my entire desk area smell good. My wedding bride lego was a gift from an old friend (because she had collected too many of them) but also because I just love weddings and there’s really no better place for it than at my desk.

A Collection Part 40

As the years go on, the “A Collection” posts get farther and farther apart from each other! When it comes to the end of summer, I always feel like it’s the most appropriate time to wrap things up. I started this post back in April, can you believe it? It’s about time we got this published!

Goodbye summer. Hello fall! We’re so excited to be in you!

Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Lattes Are Almost Back

They’re almost here! August 25th to be exact. As much as I would love to say that having the Pumpkin Spice Latte year around would make me a happy girl, I know that I just wouldn’t be as excited about them if they weren’t a limited novelty. We certainly wouldn’t write posts about them like this on a yearly basis. I am very pleased about the return though and happy that it is coming sooner than the fall. It will still be the summer because I live in California and technically it is summer the whole year round.

Yum. I am going to drink you every single day.
