The Life Span of a Blog

Last night, I stayed up late trying to finish my most recent “A Collection” post. I had gone three months without still finishing it and the reason for that was because I was just far too busy this past winter quarter. I figured that I would be able to get through my blog roll of what has to be 100 blogs (I haven’t counted just yet) over spring break, but I wasn’t even able to update that much. “A Collection” was important for me to finish because I had had a special request from a dear friend who looks forward to the post and because I knew that once school started again, I would probably never have the chance to finish. Six months worth of Tumblr backup is not ideal.

It’s cute because my friends have adopted Yow Yow! as a nickname for me and when I have real life conversations with people, there will often times be a small reference made to a direct sentence that I have written. Recently, I have been asking myself the question of “How long can I do this for?” Yow Yow! is two years old, but I would imagine that at some point I will have to stop. Yow Yow! is and will always be a part of my life, but it’s not my whole life. I’m a student, I work, and I have a whole life apart from this.

I felt compelled to address this issue because for awhile, there was a lull period where I could not update for a week and a half and then when it came back to updating again, no post felt right enough. I felt extremely limited in the material I could write about because I no longer knew what would be interesting to readers and that’s something I still struggle with.

Yesterday, 14-year old blogger Tavi Gevinson (Style Rookie) reflected back on her moments within the fashion industry such as meeting John Galliano for the first time and sitting next to Anna Wintour at Fashion Week. She also announced that she would be shifting her focus from fashion to other endeavors as well, which is completely normal because I think we can all sort of relate to a shift in interest in the period between middle school and high school. Like Tavi, I feel like I am at that stage in my life as I draw closer to the end of my college career and closer to the real world. While blogging is still an interest of mine, there are other outlets that I would like to pursue and that is something that will become more apparent in the next few weeks even on the blog. I still love to blog because I also feel that it keeps me sane, but please don’t be expecting 15 posts a day because that is no longer realistic for me.

Today is the first day of school so I would like to wish all of my happy seniors a wonderful last first day of school and to my working ones a Monday that doesn’t suck.

Seventeen Magazine just got schooled by Tavi

See anything wrong with the June/July 2010 cover of Seventeen Magazine? I didn’t at first. The 13 or 14 year old blogger of Style Rookie, Tavi Gevinson, however,  has just written an open letter to Seventeen Magazine slamming them for their bottom right corner headline: The Party Drug That Can Make You Fat & Ugly.

In the letter, Tavi questions the magazine’s threat to appearance when the main issue should be the damage to your health and body from party drugs.

“By trying to discourage the use of drugs with the threats that it will make someone fat and ugly,” she wrote, “you’re saying the worst thing that can happen to your average reader, a teenage girl, as a result of drug use, is not that she will have any damage done to her brain or become unhappy, but that her appearance will suffer.”

The girl has got a point. Tavi | 1 Seventeen Magazine | 0

I’m interested to see how Seventeen Magazine will respond to that.

In the News…

– Despite not being a “teenager” anymore, I still enjoy reading Teen Vogue. I haven’t felt like I have grown out of it just yet whereas I definitely did with American Girl Magazine hah

Teen Vogue is discussing about taking their magazine to the next level, which may include a new television show. So what will it be…reality? sitcom? a show like What Not to Wear? Only time will tell…

– Famous blogger Tavi of Style Rookie has turned 14. I still remain jealous of her amazing blog.

Monsters Inc 2 will have a sequel! Does that mean we get to see BOO?!

Lady Gaga may just be the next one to go under the knife.

The Fratellis have broken up after five years and two albums.
