Dress and Beanie – Aritzia

We get a little bit spoiled by the weather here in the Bay Area sometimes so even if it’s not cold at all, we might try and fake it because we miss wearing the pieces we USED to be able to wear in Seattle. Like… this beanie for example! To be honest, while it is v. cute and v. chic, it does not provide any warmth at all to our head. It’s really just for looks. We like this look a lot because it’s an Aritzia x2 – POW POW! And we paired it with black boots and these rings to make it look like we hard or somethin’. Everyone knows we’re so not.

We were actually going to shoot these photos outside on this day, but our new office was recently opened and though we’re not occupying it officially yet, our security guard let us come in for a photo shoot. How cute are these high school style bleachers?!

What We Wore: Holiday Party

Processed with VSCOcam with kk1 preset

Now that my company’s holiday party has actually happened, we can finally write this post! It was about a month ago that I was facing my holiday party dress dilemma having no idea what I would wear this year and it was just a few weeks ago that I wrote our Holiday Party Dress Guide for 2015. When I wrote that, I had just found my dream dress (this one above!) When you know, you know. The minute I put it on, I not only knew it was the perfect dress, but I felt it. Oh gosh – imagine what I’m going to say when I write about how I find THE dress someday. When you have found the dress and you’re excited about it, you’ll try it on every few days…and that’s exactly what I did. Out of the three holiday parties that I’ve celebrated with my company, this is by far, my favorite look.

Mandi and I had separate holiday parties to attend that night, but we figured, why not get ready together? She told me that for holiday parties she usually likes to pamper herself and go all out. I hadn’t done that in the past two years, but I thought why not? My makeup and hair should match exactly how I feel about my dress. Our first stop? Dry Bar for our very first visit!

Our visit was to the Dry Bar in downtown SF. $45 gets your hair blown out and a shampoo wash as well. I had taken a look at the menu beforehand because I’m such a planner, but the style that I wanted wasn’t exactly what I had seen so naturally, I came prepared with a photo. I told my girl that I wanted very loose waves and all of my hair to one side to match the look I was trying to go for with the dress. I felt like I was done in about 15 minutes! Honestly though, she did such a great job and I feel like this rarely happens, but I got exactly what I had asked for. The shop is super cute; it actually looks like a little bar with the set-up and while I would totally go back for another special event, I don’t think I can justify going every day before work like some people actually do. Isn’t that a little bit much?! I thought so too. Mandi and I were in shock after we found out that this is a daily thing for some people especially because shampooing and blow drying your hair is something that I learned at like age 5.

From there, her and I headed over to Bare Minerals where we had our makeup done! I have to admit, this was the one part of the day that made me really nervous especially because I used to get my makeup done for formal dances in high school at various counters. Back then, I always felt like everything was a bit overdone. The MAC counter will do that to you. However, at Bare Minerals, I felt like I was leaving looking exactly like myself, but a little bit better 😉 Bare Minerals has always been a pretty natural looking brand though so I was very impressed with them and ended up purchasing two products that I’ll most likely feature on a future “Beauty for Breakfast.”

Some last thoughts:

The back of this dress is really what sold me. Make sure you click the link for the extra details. I kept telling Mandi that I couldn’t wait to wear this dress and to get ready with someone else so that they could help me button up the last three buttons that I couldn’t reach when trying it on. I also am not big on accessories so I didn’t have a lot that would match with this dress and I knew it too. After I had secured the dress at the store, I did that thing that I do when I’m shopping and get too comfortable by roaming around and asking everyone working there to help me find the perfect necklace. I love this choker. I haven’t worn chokers in a very long time, but it’s a trend that has made its way back this year and it was so so pretty, but also didn’t take away from the lace detail on the dress which made it perfect.

Tie A Bow On It

For as long as I’ve been dressing myself, I have always had an issue with my straps falling off my shoulders – for dresses, for tank tops, it’s a struggle. It was so bad recently that I even considered just using a safety pin to connect my two straps together, but then quickly decided against that because safety pins were such a throwback to my emo high school stage. Then, in my time of need, I stumbled across a video of Connie Wang of Refinery29 solving this exact problem!

This video here will be your everything.

Immediately, I rushed to my closet to try and find some thin scarves that I could use to not only emulate this look, but also solve a huge issue. However, even though this was a simple black dress, this didn’t seem to work the way I wanted it to. Then I remembered this pretty black and white polka dotted ribbon that I had purchased a long time ago that I used to decorate my studio in college and brought with me to California. I tied the bow myself without looking and it was just okay, but then my co-worker Sepideh tied it for this photograph and it looked amazing! Instantly, my straps were turned into a racerback style and it’s not only functional, but still v. cute.

I can’t even begin to tell you how thrilled I am to never have this issue again. Good thing, it only took me 20 years or something.

Taylor Swift – Style

[youtube=http://youtu.be/-CmadmM5cOk]

So Taylor released her music video for “Style” this morning and it’s not really anything we expected. I mean it’s not a masterpiece or the most original thing we’ve ever seen either, but it didn’t blow us a way. Things I wanted to see: either a hotter guy or a Harry Styles look-a-like because c’mon, we all know this song is about him, right?

Okay, now excuse us while we go listen to this jam 10x in a row.

2015 SAG Awards

Emma Stone in Dior Haute Couture

Since I was in the midst of traveling today, I missed the entire red carpet. However, in looking at all of the highlights, I wasn’t disappointed by the looks. We’re kicking things off with Emma Stone today and it looks like she’s falling some sort of a pattern this award show season.

Taylor Swift – Style

I’ve been obsessed with this song since I heard Taylor perform it on the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and since she’s not on Spotify, it was a little bit tricky to try and track down just the audio for this song. One simple Google search led me to this Vimeo page though and I haven’t left it since.

The Performance That Mattered at the VS Fashion Show

[youtube=http://youtu.be/ye2PFVt4mMc]

Ariana Grande of course. You know you’re doing something right when you’re performing a medley of your four hits at an event. Also I wasn’t able to include a video of Taylor Swift’s performance, but I loved seeing her perform “Style.” This was my first time ever hearing this song and it’s totally just a girl anthem that I can see myself belting out if I ever heard it on the radio. Also how qt was her moment with Karlie walking down the runway? Just date already.
