How to Make Sushi

I fangirl over videos like this! Not only is it well done and exceptionally cute, there’s something about it that is soothing to watch. It’s also quite timely because since we’ve been in quarantine, we’ve been treating ourselves to sushi once a week on Fridays. Tough times call for little gems to look forward to, right?

This short video was made by director and 3D designer [Jonathan Lindgren.] But this video wasn’t just made on a whim overnight. In fact, the idea first began back in 2018 after making just a few frames based on the lives that sushi chefs lead. To see more of Lindgren’s work, visit his Vimeo.

Sushi Kit Kats

Don’t worry, no one is asking you to mix your favorite candy bar with raw fish, but how cute are these sushi themed Kit Kats? From left to right, you’ve got Tuna, Sea Urchin, and Tamago and I’d say the brand did a pretty good job of rendering these.

Tuna is raspberry atop white chocolate rice while the urchin is really Hokkaido Melon and mascarpone cheese Kit Kats wrapped in seaweed. Tamago is pumpkin pudding.

For your chance to purchase Sushi Kit Kats, you can get them at the Ginza location between February 2nd-4th. It’s limited to those who only spend over ¥3000 JPY (approximately $26 USD).

We’re Talking Sushi

When I think about myself and my personality, I find it really amusing how heavily influenced I am by things I see on the internet or in social media. You know those targeted ads that you see on Facebook after you browse another website? I’m totally their audience. Kevin posted one article on my Facebook wall today about Anthony Bourdain about sushi and 15 minutes later, I found myself placing an order for takeout. Then, I watched this video from Eater that’s almost 4 minutes long of a girl eating sushi from chef Masa Takayama who is a 3-star rated Michelin chef – the only one from America. Real talk tho – I could probably eat sushi every day so this post dedicated to it means nada.

Sushi in Seattle

photo cred | Thrillist

Having grown up in the Pacific Northwest, it’s no surprise that I am a fan of my seafood – more importantly – sushi. I’ve been eating the raw stuff since I was eight years old when my parents would take me out to sushi restaurants in Seattle. Thrillist recently posted their list of favorite places in the area and while I’ve tried the majority of them, they are missing one key player. Wasabi Bistro! As much as I love Umi Sake House and Momiji, Wasabi Bistro is a spot that my family and I typically frequent in Bell Town and it definitely rivals all of the places on this list. However, each restaurant is unique in its own way so I suggest you just try all of them.

I’m pretty challenged when it comes to cooking, but this looks like the simplest sushi tool I’ve ever seen.

Gotta have it now.

A Collection Part 10

Image heavy. But absolutely necessary. It’s the last “A Collection Part…” post of the year! If you haven’t learned by now why these are some of my favorite posts to make, then you haven’t been paying attention.

If you were to put all of these pictures into a book and read them as a story without words, what would it tell you? I feel like every collection reflects some sort of a pattern from start to finish.  This is what I feel or am drawn to right. now. The truth is, I go through hundreds of pictures. Hundreds. And I choose the ones that stand out to me at THAT moment. It’s this moment right here. If I were to go over the picture above maybe tomorrow, I might overlook it. I used to say that my blog was an outlet for me to sometimes express the way I’m feeling about something that I couldn’t directly say in person. Sometimes I use these collections to do the exact same thing.

What have you learned about me so far?

The answer lies beneath the cut.
