Snaps for a Snapshot

Who: Annasophia Robb

Wearing: Simone Rocha

Where: Hulu’s “The Act” New York Premiere

Many of you know that red is not a color that I gravitate towards. I generally find it to be a little bit loud and therefore you won’t find it often on the blog or in my closet. For some reason though, Friday has got me feeling all of the red. Here it is in two different ways, but with similar elements like the lace or the sheerness. Which look would you prefer to rock?

Who: Olivia Wilde

Wearing: Peter Dundas

Where: SXSW World Premiere of “Booksmart”

President Obama Throws A Music Festival

We’ll never have another President as cool as Barack Obama. Earlier this summer, President Obama shared with everyone his summer playlist and not only was it impressive and overlapping with songs that we also listen to – he is now announcing that he’ll be throwing a festival on Monday, October 3rd. The music festival, which will be held at the White House will be called “South by South Lawn: A White House Festival of Ideas, Art, and Action” – collaborating with SXSW and the American Film Institute.

The festival will feature panel discussions, live musicial performances, and a student film festival. The panels will focus on influencers and community leaders who are doing good in the world.

A lineup for the music festival hasn’t been announced yet, but we have no doubts that this festival won’t include an all-star lineup. In fact, we’re pretty sure that he can get just about anyone to play this so…

Also, if you think that you belong at this event or no someone that should be present, you can actually nominate a guest here.

SXSW Seattle Send-Off!

Similar to CMJ, I always get a little excited when I hear that some of my favorite local Seattle bands are headed off to SXSW.

Congrats to:

  • The Flavr Blue
  • Hey Marseilles
  • Allen Stone
  • Barcelona
  • Cardiknox – okay so they’re in NY, but Thomas Dutton was from Seattle
  • Grieves
  • Kris Orlowski
  • La Luz
  • Mary Lambert
  • Sol
  • Tacocat
  • THEESatisfaction

Also – shameless plug, one of my favorite Seattle bands, The Flavr Blue is performing at Neumos for their SXSW send-off and if you’re not doing anything tomorrow night, then you should definitely be there. It’s only $5 and it will pretty much be the best time of your life. It’s not sold out yet. I wish I were home.

The Short Game

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qb9KnrjhtAc]

My brother’s friend recently worked on a new piece called “The Short Game,” which also happens to be the first documentary to be released on Netflix. To sum it up in three words: Kids, golf, adorableness. A group of 7-year olds are highlighted as they prepare for the World Championships of Junior Golf. My take on it is that it will be somewhat of an extension of those AT&T commercials with the kids we love so much. The documentary was a winner at this year’s SXSW and will premiere on Netflix on Thursday, December 12.

Photo of the Day:

You would think that I would be freaking out over this photograph because it’s Macklemore, but I’m not. I’m freaking out because it’s Tegan and Sara! DUH.

SEATTLE MUSICIANS/BANDS HEADING TO SXSW 2013

It’s been awhile since I’ve been to a local show and to be honest – I miss it. My whole heart longs for it and I feel so sad that I ever let this part of me go so now I’m trying to incorporate music into my work life more than ever…along with this blog. Every year, I’m constantly impressed by the number of Seattle bands picked up to perform at the conference and festival and this year is no different. Yow Yow! would like to congratulate the following acts out of Seattle and wish them well next month at SXSW:

  • Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
  • Ivan & Alyosha
  • Allen Stone
  • Pickwick
  • Smoosh (formerly Chaos Chaos)
  • Barcelona
  • Kimya  Dawson
  • Hey Marseilles
  • Kithkin
  • Lemolo
  • Ravenna Woods
  • Rocky Votolato

I am proud to say that this list includes my peers, a former boss, and a band that I have worked with previously. Good luck y’all!

What I’m Watching

Brandon Fuller | Billboard

Technology and the way it is changing the way we connect with others and interact is cool. Seriously. It blows my mind to this day that we are doing things online that we never thought were possible when I was a 90’s kids. One of those things, for me, is being able to stream music festivals online from the comfort of my home. Sure, you don’t get the experience of being there and having the person next to you sweat all up in your space, but it’s the next best thing – it really is. Not being able to see the act, being in an overcrowded space, and being shoved by fan girls always trying to get up to the front are the things I can avoid through streaming.

If you’re looking for a little live music to accompany whatever it is you’re doing tonight, check out KEXP’s stream from SXSW – Andrew Bird is up next!

SXSW Stream: Jay-Z

On March 12th, Jay-Z will stream his entire performance at SXSW on the internet. The digital age is great, isn’t it? Since the rapper is performing in an American Express sponsored show,

Pitchfork reports that attendees of the festival who have both American Express cards and Interactive badges can gain access to the concert by syncing their Twitter account with their cards.

I think this still means that everyone can stream the show if they want. The stream will be available here.

“Shit people at SXSW DON’T say” By The Spinto Band

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKDBpul1FhA&feature=player_embedded]

I can’t vouch for any of these things since I’ve never been to SXSW, but this is the first video in the series that I’ve seen related to music festivals. I’m willing to bet it’s all true. Kudos to The Spinto Band for just being downright awesome.
