Cushnie is Closing

Another fashion brand exiting because of COVID is not what we want to hear right now. Since 2008, I have long admired both Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs. Monochrome pieces combined with simple silhouettes with the occasional cutout seemed like a dream for me even 12 years ago. While it wasn’t something I could even think of affording *ahem* upon graduating high school, I always thought I’d have another chance. More recently, that opportunity seemed realistic when I learned that Cushnie was collaborating with Target. Unfortunately, they didn’t have enough pieces or the pieces I wanted to try on in store.

With the recent collaboration, I didn’t catch wind that anything was wrong. I had forgotten that brands can shutter even when things seem positive because especially now, we’re all faking it until we make it. Cushnie and Ochs were part of an iconic label. Even when Ochs departed from the brand in 2018, Carly Cushnie continued to carry it on. However, in this climate, no one is safe from the pandemic and the fashion industry has taken a beating. While Cushnie is closing for now, Carly promises in her last statement that she “will always continue to create.” We look forward to whatever is next for her.

The Closet: July 2020

[Free People Lou Jean Babydoll Dress] – $128

With just a few more weeks of summer left (can you believe it?!) it’s tough to know what to shop for. Do we continue to buy summer wear and hope for clearance or do we begin prepping for fall? San Francisco summers make it hard to decipher. In this week alone, I found myself purchasing a swimsuit that I may not use this season and a half-zip long sleeved sweater. It’s clear that we are also still trying to figure this out. This month’s post teeters on both seasons if you’re like us and can’t make up your mind. For once, it also has a hearty mix of accessories along with it!

Target’s Summer Collection of Designer Dresses

Today was the day that we caved on our shopping habit. It started with a father’s day card, but ended in a checkout that was both a card and a candle (for me.) We then followed it up by purchasing not one, but two pairs of leggings from Aritzia. Once you get started, there is no going back! To top off all my purchases, we just learned that Target is releasing a highly anticipated collection just in time for restrictions around the country to start lifting.

In a new collaboration with brands that include Cushnie and LoveShackFancy, Target is releasing a line of delicious dresses that are about to fill our closets. There will be more than 70 different dresses to choose from all ranging between $40 and $60. Dresses will hit Target.com starting June 6th and in stores June 15th. Here are our favorite picks!

Target’s 20th Anniversary Collection

Altuzarra for Target Women’s Long Sleeve Deep V-Neck Wrap Dress – $50

There is nothing that I love more than designer pieces at a discount. Now, I could spend hours perusing my local Crossroads Trading on Fillmore or I could wait for Target’s 20th Anniversary Collection comeback of designer collaborations. And I think I’ll wait! At the very least, waiting means I know exactly what I’m getting. If you dig back into our archives then you’ll notice that I’ve been following these Target collections closely for years. Honestly, I’m not the only one. Going through the recent look book was a throwback for me and I can remember these pieces clear as day. Years have passed and not much has changed because I still want them. Now here are my favorites:

Anna Sui for Target Women’s Metallic Circles Sleeveless Round Neck Shift Mini Dress – $50

Mark your calendars. On September 14, the revived collection will arrive both in stores and online at Target.com!

Target Launches Beauty Boxes

I was just reading a question on Quora yesterday where someone asked what the best way to discover beauty products was. In 2017, I would chalk it up to three things: samples, your friends, and beauty boxes! I may be well into my 20’s, but I can admit that I’m not a pro when it comes to doing my makeup. I still get even the basics of it wrong so when there’s an event like a company’s holiday party where I need my face to look good, I leave it to those who do it best. Getting your makeup done at a counter or a store allows the people doing your makeup to tell you exactly what each product does. A lot of the time, I swear I’m just doing guess work when I’m by myself. I also rely on my friends to tell me what they love to use and why it works for them. Lastly, one of the best trends for makeup is with beauty boxes. Samples are your best friend. It’s like getting into a non-committal relationship with your beauty product and I can’t think of anything better. Well, I can think of one thing that is better. Beauty boxes by Target!

Target is officially launching their monthly subscription box that will deliver their top selling products to your doorstep for a record breaking price of $7. My eyeliner costs more than that and that’s just one piece. For their upcoming March box, you’ll be receiving these products at a $25 value: MISSHA’s Time Revolution Essence, Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Lip Shine, Skinfix’s Foaming Oil Cleanser, and more by Dove and Soapbox. There are all sample sizes, but I think from looking at the box, everyone can tell you’re getting more bang for your buck here.

Design Love Fest x Target Collection

Whenever I learn about some of my favorite bloggers designing and collaborating on collections, my heart gets all warm and tingly. As a part-time blogger with a day job, these are the things that I only dream of. I’ve been following Bri of DesignLoveFest for years though and am constantly inspired by her creativity and how open she is with all of her readers. She’s someone I’ve looked up to. So when I learned that she linked up with Target to put together this fab collection of travel accessories and luggage, I nearly lost it. I’ve done the most traveling I have ever done in my life in the last two years and while I’m not a pro of knowing all the tips and tricks (Ugh, I don’t even have TSA pre-check yet!) I recognize the importance of traveling well and being prepared with all of the necessities. Here are our favorite picks and once you get a peek at the collection, you’ll probably want the entire set. Don’t delay though, one piece is already sold out online!

How to Ring in 2017 or More Importantly… What You’ll Wear

Rachel Zoe satin-trimmed corded lace jumpsuit$495 $347

We always write this post a little bit late don’t we? Last year, I wrote it the day after Christmas and today I’m starting it at the end of Christmas Day. The reason why is usually because we don’t have time or we put off doing it, but my rationale is that New Years plans always happen last minute! Unless you’ve planned a trip around it or have some kind of occasion, most people have no idea what they’re doing for New Year’s Eve – myself included. Every. Single. Year. Last year, I ended up going out on Capitol Hill with my cousins and having a pretty entertaining night, but this year? We’re still not sure. I brought my trusty long-sleeved Aritiza dress back home with me though for this specific outing. You know… just in case! I’m sharing with you all some of my favorite looks to end the year, but it’s likely you may not be able to purchase these and get them delivered on time so look to these as inspiration instead!

Lilly Pulitzer for Target Lookbook

It’s very rare for me to not be excited about a designer x Target collaboration. When I was living in Seattle, I would promise time and time again that I would be making purchases from these exclusive collections, but if I had to be really honest with myself – it was just too hard to get to a Target from the city. I’m finally just a mere 10 minutes from one and I’m hoping that I can snag one of these adorable pieces for my closet. As if I haven’t done enough shopping for my birthday lately…right? To view the entire lookbook, click the source at the bottom of the post.

Oh Joy! for Target

I have never felt more behind in blogging than I do right now. However, I just did a very adult thing that is due on April 15th every year so in some way, I feel like I’m on a roll.

Since I heard about Oh Joy!’s collection for Target, I have been dying to blog about it. By now, I’m sure most of you have seen some of the images. Seeing them in person at the store was just as great too. Here are some of my favorite picks below. I wish I had a party to throw soon so that these purchases would be worth it!

These adorable two-toned vases are holding paint brushes, but could they potentially hold my makeup brushes too?

The Weekend: 5 Things

I just realized that the past two posts in the series have been 5 Things: The Weekend. I’m not sure if it really works both ways so we’re taking it back to the original. This year’s birthday celebration was similar to years prior in that I prefer to stretch it out. After celebrating with my friends the weekend before my birthday, I decided that the weekend after I would travel to sunny San Diego to visit my BFF Ash!

It was an incredible weekend full of shopping, seafood, and pampering.

My weekend actually got started on a Thursday since I was flying out Friday morning. On Thursday evening, I drove up to the city (what?! In the middle of the work week!) to catch London Grammar at The Independent. I had listened to a few songs before randomly, but never consistently. They were amazing live and with a packed house, it was pretty apparent that nearly everyone in the room was a hardcore fan. I didn’t feel worthy enough to be there, but I did feel pretty lucky since I heard it was a sold out show. Hannah was phenomenal. Her boys are pretty dreamy too.

During our shopping trip at Fashion Valley, we stopped by “Typo” – a division of Cotton On that sells cute desk accessories, trinkets, and home goods. How cute are these straws? They’d be perfect for any summer soiree.

Pacific Beach was perfection and so are my new favorite sandals by Dolce Vita. More on that later.

Whoooo!! This girl is my best friend. Since we’ve been friends, we’ve never spent a summer apart and this year, we won’t have to because we’ll both be in the Bay Area while she is interning at Stanford. Summer 2014 – the summer of Ash and Katie.

We found the Oh Joy! collection at Target and we fell in love. Definitely more on this later.
