Tavi’s Editorial for Blackbook

New York’s Blackbook has finally released the editorial shots stylized by 13-year-old Tavi Williams and they look great! They are very much like Tavi, but not a mirror image. I like that the editorial is age appropriate for her and for her audience. That’s kind of weird to say considering that Tavi is still a pre-teen and that no other 13-year-old dresses like her, but you know what I mean.

The model above is wearing a dress and boots by Marc Jacobs. To top it off she added a Louis Vuitton bra outside of the dress. Not really my style, but I can dig it.

In the News…

– Despite not being a “teenager” anymore, I still enjoy reading Teen Vogue. I haven’t felt like I have grown out of it just yet whereas I definitely did with American Girl Magazine hah

Teen Vogue is discussing about taking their magazine to the next level, which may include a new television show. So what will it be…reality? sitcom? a show like What Not to Wear? Only time will tell…

– Famous blogger Tavi of Style Rookie has turned 14. I still remain jealous of her amazing blog.

Monsters Inc 2 will have a sequel! Does that mean we get to see BOO?!

Lady Gaga may just be the next one to go under the knife.

The Fratellis have broken up after five years and two albums.

The world ahead of us…

I just made the swift decision that I would not be doing my theology reading for tomorrow. This is not because I am a student that slacks off. I don’t. It isn’t really because I have anything else more important to do (but I do)

For the first three weeks of my quarter, I’ve been sticking to my syllabus in my classes. I stayed in all weekend and did homework while swooning over actor Matthew Gray Gubler on Criminal Minds. I felt much older than I really was. I should probably have been out w/ my friends like every other college student in the country on a weekend. Also Matthew Gray Gubler is 30 years old. (sidenote)

So being the age that I am – and a college student, I feel old. I no longer I have that energy that I used to have. I have no desire to pack on those numbers (or the pounds) that come with age, but why does it seem like the rest of the world is? There are the child stars, the infamous bloggers that have become household names at the age of 13, (Yep, I’m talkin’ about you Tavi!) and the ones in grade school, junior high, and high school that cannot wait to get older. They do the things that make us cringe and confuse us. Our society has come to terms with the idea that with age comes privileges and independence. This idea is stomping on our youth. Hard. There are some decisions that we think we are ready to make when we are younger, but there’s a reason why people warn us about them. I believe that making mistakes are lessons to be learned, but some lessons do not need to be learned until later.

I decided to ask some of my friends the question:

Are we growing up too fast?

“High school is our only time that mistakes are acceptable. Then we get into college and we are automatically thrown into this world of “what do you want to do with your life” and honestly, we are in our twenties. No one should want to know what they want to do with their 60 + years yet. i think that our generation needs more time for self discovery and exploration.”

Bloggers to the Front

First Tavi took Fashion Week by storm, now this girl gets the chance of a lifetime to sit in front row of New York’s fashion week. It’s cool, it’s only been my dream for like five years… as long as she (above) has been alive. Turns out this was a prank that Racked.com pulled on the new famous bloggers that have taken over the front row giving the celebrities the boot. I am jealous.

What did her notes look like exactly? Extensive and detailed I’m sure with sketches to match.

Here’s what little Katie had to say about her experiences during Fashion Week:

I went to the Hautelook lounge and had three donuts. I met Carlota, the vice president of Hautelook, and I interviewed her about her job. I told her my favorite color is turquoise, like the flower on her necklace. Then I put on some glitter make-up and lip gloss, talked on my favorite pink phone, and checked my email. Carlota gave me a goody bag with beauty products I’m going to give to my mom and a gift certificate to Hautelook.com that I’m going to share with my big brother.

Um, so cute!!!

Never too young to get into the fashion business

Street style photographer Garance Dore snapped this picture from her phone today and posted it to her Twitter while she was at Fashion Week. The caption read, “Bloggers have broken the double digits: 9 year old now front row ! (And working!)”

First Tavi, now this child… I am forever envious. It just goes to show that interest in fashion can begin at any age.
