Dating: It’s Not Easy

I’ve been on a romantic comedy streak lately. It first started out with 27 Dresses a couple weeks ago, then Definitely, Maybe, The Girl Next Door and last night an advanced screening of The Switch. Dating is never simple. It is probably the most complex thing we will ever do in our lives. Well, that’s an exaggeration. Maybe I should follow up w/ Dating Brian to see how his month of dating went. The thing is, I’ve come to realize in dating that we are always looking for second opinions. We’re constantly put up against something that is unfamiliar to us whether it’s a mannerism that we question, a question that we have about ourselves, or something else. So what do you do when you don’t have a second opinion? Who do you go to?

I’ve found it. The Morning News has created the ultimate “Can We Date” chart. I even tested it out on myself, and though I do not understand my own results, I’m sure that this could possibly bring you the guidance that you may be looking for. Trust it. Print it out and keep it in your back pocket because you never know when you’ll need it. Potential daters are everywhere!

The Indie Pixie Dream Girls

Q: What actor or actress would you want to play you in a movie?

I have never been able to answer that question. For one, I don’t think any actress looks like me. A woman once told me in an airport that she believed I resembled the actress in Everybody Loves Raymond. Uh which one? The mother or the wife? Instead of going off looks, why not go off of personalities. If I could choose to be any type of character in a film, it would be the indie pixie dream girl.

What does that mean exactly?

“that bubbly, shallow cinematic creature that exists solely in the fevered imaginations of sensitive writer-directors to teach broodingly soulful young men to embrace life and its infinite mysteries and adventures.” [source]

Meet the girls:

Zooey Deschanel as Summer Hathaway in 500 Days of Summer

Elish Cuthbert as Jordan Roark in My Sassy Girl

Bringing It Back

Please…just listen to the tips that they suggest:

– Having a stuffed animal

– Wearing a t-shirt with a slogan on it

– Stare at him

– Talk about your pets

– Talk softly so he is forced to lean in

No one does this anymore, do they? After watching this video, I was instantly reminded of the movie The Girl Next Door. The main character hated that old sex-ed video he had to watch in his class that was pretty much as outdated as THIS video so he took it into his own hands to make a video that was more interesting and more appropriate for his age group. If you were to re-make this video, what kind of helpful tips would you include that would work for today’s culture?
