Holiday Gift Guide 2020

[Ohom Kopi Mug and Warmer Set] – $75

When it comes to Christmas shopping, Kevin and I are no strangers to waiting until the last minute to shop for my parents. Instead of shipping things directly to our parents’ home (to avoid spoilers obviously) we wait until we’re back in Seattle to do all of our shopping. Most times, it can be what you expect it to be: hectic and chaotic. Other times, it gives us an excuse to leave the house and visit some of our favorite local spots while we’re out.

This year, we won’t be returning home for Christmas. Instead my parents will receive their presents unwrapped, but boxed from USPS. It’s not the holiday we hoped for, but we’ll make this sacrifice for the safety of those we love. In previous years, you’d be getting this holiday guide from me the week before Christmas. Since I had some time off this week from Thanksgiving, I decided to get a head start. You all may need it since you might also be doing some shipping of your own!

I didn’t intend for the theme to be so focused on home life, but after the year we’ve had and what 2021 may look like, this seems fitting. Moreover, festivals and celebrations are all about cheerfulness and colorfulness, one way of achieving it could be through decorating the home with some beautiful lights and lamps like the ones available at thelamplife. When the home looks bright, our mood brightens up instantly. This is the reason this time, I have focused on the gifts that can make your home a little more “home-y” and you more comfortable. In addition to getting this guide earlier than usual, you’re also getting MORE because nothing is sold out yet.

The Sill – Cow Hollow

One of the most fun parts about having Yow Yow! is writing about something and then having it be something you can experience years later. When [The Sill] first debuted in New York, we wrote about it on [Yow Yow!] back in 2013. I believe back then I may have called them a start-up, but they have a true store front now and they’ve landed in San Francisco. A week into their shop in Cow Hollow, I dragged Brad along with me so that I could see them in real life. The process was seamless. First you pick your pot, then your plant and then they put it all together for you so that you can bring it home without having to do any of the work yourself. Except for, well, keeping it alive. I suppose that’s where the real work comes in!

2181 Union Street

There are no shortage of plants store within the city, but I’m partial to this one for personal reasons. 🙂

The Sill x Madewell

I’m such a huge sucker when it comes to all things decorating my desk. I constantly feel like I have so many ideas for it, but given my role at my workplace, I sometimes feel like I am swimming in papers. Last year, I was given a succulent from my co-worker which didn’t survive. And ever since it died, I’ve been itching to have another one. The Sill is a start-up out of New York that I blogged about back in November and now they’ve gone ahead with a collaboration that is making me love them even more! Working with one of my favorite retailers, Madewell – The Sill has created an exclusive line of planters that I absolutely need to have. If only they could ship it to me…

How great would this look on my desk though? Or even… your desk!

5 Things: The Weekend

succulent

After my co-worker learned that I wouldn’t be able to receive my own succulent from the start-up I wrote about this past week, she graciously plucked me one from her own garden at home and mini-potted it for me. It fits in the palm of my hand is literally the same height as my wedding bride Lego. I mentioned in my post about The Sill that I wanted to be able to take care of something for myself and since I’m at work the most, it made the most sense to leave it there. However, I’m already failing because I forgot to put it by a windowsill before I left for the weekend so that it could get more sunlight. Womp Womp.

The Sill

For as long as I’ve been working at a desk, my space has always been less than tidy. Up until I purchased my West Elm desk a couple of months ago, my desk was just a place where papers would lay and where things were not disorganized , but never really organized. With my new desk, I have tried my hardest to keep it as a place where I would work, but also feel like work could get done. One way for me to try and achieve that was to feel like I could take care of something on my desk, which is why I love having fresh flowers on them. When I discovered New York start up, The Sill, I thought that I had found my new desk project! The start-up encourages people to bring the outdoors inside and what better place to store it than in a space that promotes inspiration! These adorable succulents would make a great addition to my very plain white desk, but unfortunately for me, they are only local to the NYC and Brooklyn area currently. Readers, if you’re nearby, snag one for yourself!

It’s A Valentine’s Day Post!

Valentine’s Day has always been one of my favorite holidays and though none of them have ever been all that memorable, that hasn’t really stopped me from loving love. There are always going to be the people in your life that you know absolutely despise the holiday. They think it’s incredibly commercialized…and it is, but you know what? You don’t need to spoil anyone else’s fun. Let ‘dem couples love their love.

Having said that, buying a gift that will melt your partner’s or friend’s (or whoever you buy for on Valentine’s) heart can be difficult. Finding something original is always the aim to hopefully wow your partner with something they’ve never seen before. I personally love all things custom, such as this Personalized Lover Creative 3D Print photo Moon Lamp; simply upload whichever picture you want to appear on this lamp (whether that be you or your partner or a picture of you and your group of friends), and have it come to completion right at your doorstep. Also, personalized gifts are many! Do not narrow your search to the same old things only. You could explore the array of gifting options like getting a custom name necklace with your ship name or initials. This way, it would remain a token of love or something meaningful they can hold on to forever. Things like this are super romantic and will be highly appreciated by whoever is receiving the gift. It would show them the efforts you have put in for gifting that gift.

Also, gifting that special someone a customized spotify code plaque of a song that best represents you as a couple or a fond memory that you share, is sure to impress your partner. A gift that tugs at the heartstrings is always something to be treasured and if the memory is attached to a song, it becomes all the more special. Nevertheless, here are just a few more gifts to wow your partner or girls with this year.

1. Name a star – $49 (Cheesy, but if you’re like me and love space, then PERFECT)

2. Recycled Spray Can Bouquets (for the artsy girlfriend)
