The Weeknd’s Super Bowl LV Halftime Show Performance

In case you missed it, The Weeknd’s Super Bowl Halftime performance was the most exciting part of last week’s Super Bowl. We didn’t care too much for the teams playing and we hoped it would at least be an exciting game, but it wasn’t. The Weeknd, however, delivered on a fun performance with all of his hits and what felt like a jab to the Grammys after their snub. We were secretly hoping that he’d play a song off of one of his older mixtapes, but that’s okay.

Super Bowl Halftime Show to be 24 Minutes

Before I read this article, I didn’t even know that the Super Bowl Halftime show was only 12 minutes long. It always seemed much longer to be, but now reading 12 minutes, that seems like nothing. Pepsi said the decision to double the time was because we all missed out on a ton of live performances this year and they want this performance to feel like a concert. That seems nice. I also think The Weeknd sort of deserves something like this especially after getting shut out from The Grammys.

Regardless, we’re looking forward to it!

2020 American Music Awards Performances

Awards shows in 2020 are still very weird, but despite all of that, they are continuing and I will still watch. Granted these days, I’m mostly watching for BTS, but in order to keep in an open mind and to see what other music is out there, I’m watching the entire show. Another reason for this is that the American Music Awards literally put BTS as the closing performers which meant I had to watch three hours of performances I didn’t care too much about. However, out of those, here are the ones that caught my attention a little while longer.

Jennifer Lopez blew us all away at the Super Bowl this year, but that was no surprise. For as long as I’ve known her to be a performer, I’ve always been impressed. Have we ever seen a poor performance by her? Her duet with Maluma was so steamy, you couldn’t peel your eyes away from the screen. It’s worth mentioning that I didn’t mean “steamy” in a bad way. It was incredible as a performance from start to finish.

For some reason, I’m not able to find a full version of both performances by BTS, but lucky for us BANGTANTV has got it separated into two. While it’s just a fan cam, I tend to find these to be even more intimate and less theatrical. You feel like you’re actually there because you can hear the drones whizzing by!

The Kenny G cameo was everything, wasn’t it? The Weeknd had an amazing performance at the AMAs taking over the city of Los Angeles. Unfortunately, The Weeknd was incredibly snubbed by the Grammy nominations that came out this morning. After a successful album release and hit singles from 2020 alone, he received no recognition by the organization. This news is now overshadowing the performance that he just had and no one really knows what to do with the information.

Last, but not least – the throwback Bell Biv Devoe performance was so much fun! You may not know this, but any chance I get, I will always request “Poison.” And that’s exactly what I got from this performance. Sadly, there is no video, but like the things we love in the past, we’ll continue to cherish it forever. <3 (even with no evidence of it)

Song of the Day

The Weeknd – In Your Eyes Remix ft. Doja Cat

Doesn’t it just seem like Doja Cat is the darling of 2020? All of her songs have been bops and she’s clearly a hit amongst the generation currently on Tik Tok. I haven’t heard one song that I didn’t love from her and this collab is perfection.

5 New Albums We’re Listening To

As much as possible, I want to try and keep some kind of normalcy during this quarantine. Sundays are my days for unwinding so that usually means being in my lounge wear, running errands, getting ready for the week, catching up on new music and television shows. Aside from running errands, we can do almost all of that. I’m also aware that having more time now, I’m able to create new routines for myself. I can spend more time on making a Sunday dinner that will set me up for the week once we return to work. Hopefully that’s not too ambitious!

In the last week five new albums came out that I was anticipating. Technically The Weeknd was the week before, but whatever. Dua Lipa’s album was released a couple weeks early due to it being leaked. I saw that she was upset at the news, but on the upside, it’s truly a bop and one of my new favorites.

If you’re looking for some new music to fill your time, here is what I’m listening to:

  • The Weeknd – After Hours
  • Dua Lipa – Future Nostalgia
  • PARTYNEXTDOOR – PARTYMOBILE
  • Jessie Reyez – BEFORE LOVE CAME TO KILL US
  • Little Dragon – New Me, Same Us

What We’re Listening to This Weekend

spotify:album:5EbpxRwbbpCJUepbqVTZ1U

Since I now work in the city, I try to avoid San Francisco as much as I can on the weekends. That means the city is only reserved for special events… like I mean you gotta be celebrating a birthday and if it’s not at that baseline, cya! Myself in my late 20’s is actually fascinating to me because my weekends typically consist of brunch dates, snack dates, and errands. I think teenager me would wonder how I seem to have errands every single weekend. I’m still trying to figure that out too. After a busy day of shopping though, I’m now at home and resting up before I fly to LA later on this week. I was in the mood for The Weeknd, but not any of his new stuff. House of Balloons has always been one of my favorites and though it’s a little dark at times, it’s nice background music for me while I’m writing on Yow Yow! I didn’t hate his latest album, but I didn’t want to listen to anything remotely close to “Can’t Feel My Face” so here we are.

2017 Met Gala Red Carpet

I wanted so badly to get home early Monday evening so that I could have this post ready in time for Tuesday morning as a recap, but of course, we stayed at work a little bit later that night. The good thing about writing this post now though is that I feel like I’m not under a time crunch and I can really take my time with it.

Bee Shaffer is not exactly “in” the fashion world, but her mother is Anna Wintour and every year she continues to stun. This was one of my favorite looks from the evening. Here she is wearing Alexander McQueen with her fiance Francesco Carrozzini. #powercouple

A Collection Part 46

I always seem to have the most time to blog around the holidays, but it just so happens that I like being able to post for “A Collection” during this time too. We last did this post about 6 months ago so all of today’s photos are ones that I’ve been collecting and saving since then. Here’s hoping that these photographs tickle you, inspire you, or spark some kind of emotion within you the same way they do to us. Happy New Year! We’re excited for you 2017.

2016 Met Gala Red Carpet

Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton

This is always one of our favorite events of the year and all today, I wanted to just continue refreshing Fashionista so that I could see the live coverage of all of the outfits. Instead, we worked. And every 45 minutes, we ended up refreshing, but then the days get ahead of us so now we’re playing catch up now. Here’s what we did see – we didn’t like Taylor’s outfit. Not one bit. We hated Selena’s boots. We weren’t surprised by Nicki Minaj and we loved Chloe Moretz and Bee Shaffer, but what else is new?! Now, let’s get to the coverage – it’s pretty much the post we’ve been waiting for all year long. This year’s theme was Manus x Machina. This also kind of hits home for us because well… you know, tech!

Grammys 2016 Red Carpet

Selena Gomez in Calvin Klein

The red carpet for me this year was just so-so. There wasn’t anything that I absolutely loved or hated, maybe in the end I just prefer things like the Golden Globes or The Oscars. Usually, the first look that I share is something that I really like. This time, though I give this look a 6/10. The sparkly blue is nice and sure the cut-outs are edgy, but it’s really not anything we haven’t seen before. Also her old school hair is just meh to me.
