Chalkboard Map Decal

I haven’t done as much traveling as I would have liked at my age nor am I a huge fan of geographic items, but I absolutely love maps. I am a huge fan of recycled globes and printed maps and I usually try to showcase them on the blog when I come across them. This chalkboard wall decal is a pricey $159, but allows you to update and modify your own text to the map whenever you please. Also, think of how sleek this decal would look on the wall of your office above your desk, in a bedroom, or a living room. It’s a natural conversation starter.

Thought Catalog Roundup

These Thought Catalog roundup posts make me look lazy, but these won’t be happening for much longer. This week, I’ve been playing catch up and I’m still just as behind as ever, but the main reason why I’m recycling Thought Catalog posts is because I’ve asked several friends in the last week or so to help guest post for Yow Yow and to get them feeling inspired, the number one website I suggested to them was this one. Enjoy! These posts are all from last week!

A Collection Part 30

A Softer World

Happy spring readers! We’re long overdue for a Collection post so I thought I would leave you with one before I embark on the rest of my spring break venturing for the week. It’s definitely shorter than usual, but still packed with pretty pictures. I wanted to kick off this collection post with a comic from one of my favorite sites, A Softer World. Together, they are the perfect combination of beautiful photography and witty thoughts.

Enjoy!

The Middlest Sister

My brother and I have gone through a string of shenanigans growing up. The slightly normal events were captured in photographs, but the weird ones weren’t so now they’re just a fleeting memory. Photographs are great and all…but they just don’t cut it sometimes. That’s why I am loving this new blog The Middlest Sister in which Nicole Belanger Smeltzer recalls some of her favorite memories with her and her four sisters by creating this comics out of recycled paper scraps. Adorable and entertaining.

MANteresting

With all this buzz swarming around Pinterest now for the past couple of months, I’ve been wondering what the guys have been up to. Are they feeling jealous? Left out because they don’t have a site like Pinterest for them? Well luckily, somebody recognized this need and is trying to get a site called “MANteresting” going for the men who want to pin and have boards just like everyone else.

I think it’s the tag line that gets me the most.

“MANteresting – Interesting. Man. Things.”

Men, what are you waiting for? Get pinning! Get inspired!

Juice Drinking

photo cred | Whatthecool

Sometimes when I learn about products like these, I wish so badly that I could be a kid again. This contraption is just so strange to me, but at the same time takes out the hassle in buying things like orange juice. Basically, you stick this diddly into a fruit (orange, grapefruit,..not sure what else right now) and spin the green top round and round to churn the juices. After removing the device, insert a straw and begin drinking.

The entire procedure seems so simple, but knowing me, I would probably mess the entire thing up.

Work With Me, Mentee

Hello readers!

If any of you have been wondering why I haven’t been as present on the blog this week, it is because I have been slaving away on one of my final projects for the quarter. This end of the quarter type project w/ a paper is one of the last projects I will ever have to create and present in college. It’s all very emotional. I recognized that this opportunity to create something that was 100% me was rare and knowing that, I wanted to put forth my hard work to design something that I could be proud of. From here on out, it’s all group projects and in those instances it becomes a little bit difficult to make sure that everyone has their spin on things.

The prompt had me research what management students could do with a management degree and asked me to propose a new idea that would get management students to become more excited in researching their possibilities.

The layout of my board and chalk writing was inspired by the lovely and talented Bri Emery – founder of Design Love Fest I also tweeted a picture this morning of my posterboard to Bri…

This basically made my day. Click the cut for more images of my poster board!

Halloween Costume Shopping Just Got A Whole Lot Easier

Fred Flare is currently selling a “Magic Unicorn Mask” and instead of looking as magical as I have always envisioned unicorns to be, I am frightened. This mask is huge. It costs $40 and it actually looks like a deranged unicorn head on a human body.

Not a bad Halloween costume though, eh? Would you wear it? Would you buy it?!

All I Own

photo cred | Sannah Kvist

I bet you’ve never actually taken the time to sit around and think about all of your possessions let alone wondered how much space they would take up. Swedish photographer Sannah Kvist had a vision and the results of it are kind of amazing. She asked her participants to gather up all of their belongings, arrange them in a way that was compact, and stand beside it as she photographed them.

This sounds like a time consuming project, but how cool would it be to actually have a photograph of everything that completely belongs to you and is a representation of who you are?

“Outsiders” Plushies

Before you even knew how to make friends as a young child, your first friend was always your stuffed animal. Sure, they couldn’t communicate back to you and there was no interpersonal relationship developing out of it, but even as a child you knew they understood you. They were always there. It’s the reason why I would always choose to give a new family member a stuffed animal when I had the opportunity. Atelier Volvox is a design team based out of Zurich striving to give old stuffed animals a second chance and a new companion. As we all know, I’m sure, stuffed animals get worn out and are often times too damaged by the end of their run. Atelier Volvox find their stuffed animals at second hand stores and completely turns them inside out. Their appearance is a little unusual, but hey – we don’t judge on that anymore – especially not in stuffed animals. Each plushie then receives a unique one-of-a-kind look.

Designers Samuel Coendet and Lea Gerberassure us that “despite their bizarre appearance, however, Outsiders are friendly and adorable.”

A Spicy Dessert

Those are some weird looking strawberries…oh wait. Trying to kick your date up a few notches? Would you rather be biting into a spicy or sweet pepper instead of the usual strawberries? Want some chocolate with that?

I’m not sure how this combination would taste, but it is totally being done by the Chocolate Covered Company here.

Would you guys try it?!

RIP White Denim

I regret to inform you all today that my white denim pants are no more. It is a sad day, but it is what it is – and I had no control over it. The zipper on my Urban Outfitters BDG brand ankle cigarette white denim pants broke yesterday and when I went to return them to the store, they were no longer in my size. Unfortunately, they are no longer online either, which means I left the store empty handed without a replacement.

Pants – we had a good one-month run. I hear you may be returning in late March. See you then.
