Thought Catalog Roundup

These Thought Catalog roundup posts make me look lazy, but these won’t be happening for much longer. This week, I’ve been playing catch up and I’m still just as behind as ever, but the main reason why I’m recycling Thought Catalog posts is because I’ve asked several friends in the last week or so to help guest post for Yow Yow and to get them feeling inspired, the number one website I suggested to them was this one. Enjoy! These posts are all from last week!

Public Breakups on Facebook

It’s not nice to laugh at other people’s misfortunes, but I have always believed that if you become passive aggressive on Facebook, then you are truly asking for it. Since most of my Facebook friends are from school and know better than to air their dirty laundry out on Facebook, very seldom do I see status updates on my newsfeed of public breakups. That doesn’t mean people aren’t doing it though.

One website, however, decided to capture them all and publish them in one place.

I wish I could say that social media should be utilized by everyone, but sometimes, I wish people just wouldn’t.

What I’m Watching

Brandon Fuller | Billboard

Technology and the way it is changing the way we connect with others and interact is cool. Seriously. It blows my mind to this day that we are doing things online that we never thought were possible when I was a 90′s kids. One of those things, for me, is being able to stream music festivals online from the comfort of my home. Sure, you don’t get the experience of being there and having the person next to you sweat all up in your space, but it’s the next best thing – it really is. Not being able to see the act, being in an overcrowded space, and being shoved by fan girls always trying to get up to the front are the things I can avoid through streaming.

If you’re looking for a little live music to accompany whatever it is you’re doing tonight, check out KEXP’s stream from SXSW – Andrew Bird is up next!

Pronunciation Manual

This has been one of the best time wasters I’ve come across during finals week. If only…words were pronounced the way Pronunciation Manual explained them to us.

With finals going on right now, it’s a little bit difficult to be posting regularly. However, Holiday Matinee released their new March mixtape today and as always, I’ve got a big ‘ol crush on them! They’ve been the perfect soundtrack for me as I’ve been studying and I know they’ll suit you for whatever it is you’re doing tonight too. Check it out here. It’s AMAZING. Oh HM…I wish I could Yow Yow! could grow up to be just like you someday…swoon…

One Sculpture A Day Keeps the Doctor Away

I absolutely love learning anytime someone has a unique yearly project that are keeping up with every day. Participating in this kind of project takes patience, dedication, and stamina. Several years ago, I did Project 366 and it was probably one of the hardest and most rewarding things I’ve ever done taking a picture everyday for a year and documenting my life. However, my task is nothing like the task that David De Tschamer is going after by creating one sculpture every day. He started it in April 2011 so he’s almost done, but I would imagine that keeping up with this has been kind of tough! Check out his work here.

The Middlest Sister

My brother and I have gone through a string of shenanigans growing up. The slightly normal events were captured in photographs, but the weird ones weren’t so now they’re just a fleeting memory. Photographs are great and all…but they just don’t cut it sometimes. That’s why I am loving this new blog The Middlest Sister in which Nicole Belanger Smeltzer recalls some of her favorite memories with her and her four sisters by creating this comics out of recycled paper scraps. Adorable and entertaining.

Social Media Gone Awry

There’s a new social media website in town and it’s called “Juggalobook.” Yes, you heard right – the new social media site caters to the juggalos otherwise known as fans and followers of the music group, Insane Clown Posse. The home page looks similar to Facebook, but the profiles have a layout resembling MySpace. It’s the best of both worlds I guess for a very underground type of world that I am not…a part of.

…yikes.

Subcultural Tribes of the 21st Century

We can no longer pass people on the street in Capitol Hill and categorize them as hipster or non-hipster. My friend Rachel and I actually made the terms to distinguish the two types of hipster we were currently and we are basically at two different ends of the spectrum. In reality, there are a number of subcultural tribes that exist right now and Your Scene Sucks has defined them portraits and descriptive words. Check out all of them here.

MANteresting

With all this buzz swarming around Pinterest now for the past couple of months, I’ve been wondering what the guys have been up to. Are they feeling jealous? Left out because they don’t have a site like Pinterest for them? Well luckily, somebody recognized this need and is trying to get a site called “MANteresting” going for the men who want to pin and have boards just like everyone else.

I think it’s the tag line that gets me the most.

“MANteresting – Interesting. Man. Things.”

Men, what are you waiting for? Get pinning! Get inspired!

Is Linsanity Happening Tonight?

photo cred | The Windy Apple

I may not know the rules of the game entirely, but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy watching sports. Last season, (near the end of their run,) I became a huge Seahawks fan because after 21 years, both my cousin and brother informed me of the rules and I mean – I like Seattle. Therefore…I like the Seahawks. Veronica says my use of logic in every way, shape, and form is awful, but I got an A in philosophy so I feel comfortable using it.

Anyways, Jeremy Lin is becoming quite the icon these days – even my parents jumped on the band wagon. After watching him in action this past weekend, I have to say that I am impressed. The guy’s a beast. This most likely means that I will be watching more of his games on television because it’s not like Seattle has a team anymore that I can root for. While I may know my way around normal television schedules, I’ll admit that game schedules are new territory for me. Luckily, I’ve got “Is Linsanity Happening Tonight?” bookmarked – a website that informs me on a daily basis whether or not Jeremy Lin is about to dominate on the court.

“F Your Noguchi Coffee Table”

I know the name of the blog sort of has a negative connotation, but the home decor photographs are so pretty, it makes me think that the meaning is just the opposite! Prepare to lust over the best furniture and home inspiration ever here.
