Valentine’s Day Dresses For Your Perfect Evening

Happy February! Ever since I moved to California, I think I’ve loved February much more than when I lived in Seattle because unlike Seattle, February here kind of is like a little bit of a colder summer. There’s not much difference. Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and I usually love asking all of my couple friends what they have planned. Some get to be very elaborate while others barely celebrate the holiday  or doing something really easy by telling one another what they want and getting exactly that. I haven’t celebrated Valentine’s Day that much, but if I had to pick an ideal date, it would just be dinner, dessert, and drinks! Last year, I was treated out to dinner and drinks at a nearby wine bar and that was just enough for me. It’s amazing how much pressure there can be on one holiday – gifts, plans, expectations, and lastly – what to wear! Red and pink are usual go-to’s, but I really love when people toss in blue and that’s why I’m highlighting this dress above from Urban Outfitters. Need more inspiration? Click the cut!

How to Ring in 2015 Right

Yumi Kim Beaded Elsa Dress – $300

TBH, we could’ve started this post a lot sooner, but lately I’ve been less than a planner than I’ve ever been in my life. You would think that I would have already planned out what I was going to do for New Years Eve already because normally that would’ve been decided weeks ago, but in fact, it’s still up in the air. It’s actually between seeing a DJ set in SF by Mayer Hawthorne or … you know…going to Vegas. So there’s that. Whatever the case – wherever I end up – having an outfit to wear on New Year’s Eve is something that I don’t skimp on. It’s actually one of my favorite holidays to dress up for (even though I don’t care about New Year’s Eve) because it’s the one time where you can look very sparkly and girly and what girl doesn’t love doing that for a night? So sorry for the late notice on this. If you see something you like just bite the bullet and purchase immediately so that it makes it in time for your big event!

Warning: We’ve got feels for the little black dress ahead!

How We Holiday Party 2014

Holiday party season is upon us and we’d be doing a disservice if we didn’t include a guide like we always do! I’ve only attended one work-related holiday party in my time so I don’t have too much experience. All I know is that last year, I wore a black dress with cut-outs and sheer fabric over the cut-outs. There were at least two other women at the party that wore sheer fabric so I felt like I had done right by being in the correct wheelhouse and theme. Having already purchased my holiday party dress for this year back in June and realizing that it is black, leather, and with a cut-out again, I’m noticing that maybe I’m just too much into a comfort zone. A holiday party is the one time out of the year where you get to try something different and even though I have my dress, I am still considering straying away from that. Here are some of my favorite picks for this year so far! Also, we’re doing this post a little bit earlier than last year so that you still have time to snag some dresses if you’d like!

Peacock Tree Farm, Los Gatos

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

{Gray long sleeve tee: Sway and Cake (Seattle boutique)}
{Open cardigan: Brandy Melville}
{Olive jacket: Aritzia}
{Cream scarf: Hollister Co.}
{Black leggings: Aritzia}
{Glasses: Warby Parker}
{Cross-body bag: Urban Outfitters}
{Boots: Steve Madden}

If someone were to ask me what my standard everyday outfit would be, this would probably be it. Seattle raised me well, you guys. Check out those layers and that Starbucks red cup. Actually every time, we post an outfit post, I feel like I have a funny story about several of the pieces. First off, I’ve had these Steve Madden boots since college and the heels are not completely falling apart, but on its way there. The heels have been worn down, but not evenly so when I walk I feel like I am lopsided. I’ve had this Hollister scarf since middle school and to this day, I still consider it a regular staple. Bree needed a Christmas tree for the holidays so I tagged along to help her catch the tree when she “sawed the bitch down.” (Her words not mine) The Christmas tree farm is no joke. There’s so many. It’s in the middle of nowhere and it’s freezing out there. I suppose I was also there to act as a ruler as she wanted one that was just around my height.

Your 2013 Holiday Party Dress

Banana Republic Seamed Ponte Fit and Flare V-Neck Dress – $130

It’s that time of the year! For the first time ever, I’m attending a holiday party for my company and this time – it won’t be in some sketchy dive bar in the middle of nowhere. I can toss that horrible, ugly, and itchy Christmas sweater aside and put on my favorite new dress for the season. Of course, I don’t own one yet, but that’s why we’re on the hunt! I actually helped a co-worker of mine find her dress before I found one and it looks fabulous. Job well done. Now, here are some options for both you and I!

earwarmer

Now normally, I would think that ear warmers were a little silly. Pre-2011, I would have thought so, but they are just too darling that I couldn’t stay away. I ordered myself a new pair this year after losing mine back in 2011. I’ve sort of been scarred ever since. I was at Deck the Hall Ball with Kevin when him and I decided that we didn’t care too much for Mumford & Sons (sorry, guys!) so we up and left and when I got too warm during the show I took off my gray ear warmers and snuggled them into my seat. I hate when stuff like that happens. Anyways, these ear warmers fit so snug and are pretty inexpensive from Urban Outfitters. If you want to look like twins or something, check them out here.

Shopping Hack of the Day:

Readers,

I was reminded of a very important shopping hack today that I haven’t been taking advantage of. I’m not really big on Halloween, but since we’re having some major milestones this year, I decided I should probably get more into the spirit. I saw a lace mask that I wanted  at Urban Outfitters and when I was about to make the purchase last night – realized that the shipping was $22 for when I needed it to arrive.

… That’s almost as much as the mask itself.

I called a nearby store to see if it was available there and of course, it wasn’t. So I asked if I could make the purchase through them over the phone and had my day made when the other person on the line told me I could order it on the phone through the store without shipping costs!

BOOM. Use your resources. Hack online shopping. The tech of Silicon Valley is rubbing off on me.

The Closet: July 2013

DV by Dolce Vita ‘Dania’ Sandal – $26.23

By the looks of this month’s closet collection, you would think that we were already gearing up for fall! That, however, just isn’t true. I’ve noticed recently that while out shopping, I’ve been indulging in pieces that tend to be on the more neutral side – whites, creams, grays, and blacks. I’ve always been a fan of the classic style, but one thing is for sure – I definitely don’t get dressed up as much as I did in college. Back then,  bold and bright pieces were my trademark, but these days – I’m not really dressing for anyone else other than myself and I’m not meeting new people every single day so getting dressed in the morning has become simplified. With that, here are my picks for July!

Yow Yow! Promo Day

1

We’re baaaaaaack!

Veronica and I spent the (cold!) morning working on a new promo video for Yow Yow and we figured since we had the space helmet and all, why not have a throwback moment? Kevin actually bought this space helmet for me for my birthday so it’s all mine and has no traces of John Conway, paint, or Senior Streak! This is my first time wearing this outfit and I actually debated over the shoes for a couple minutes this morning while getting ready, but opted for these because I knew we’d be walking around town and I wanted something that I would feel comfortable dancing in.

A Roundup of Smaller Music Festivals 2013

At Yow Yow! we try to cover some of the larger festivals both across the country and even globally, but with so many festivals occurring and popping up every year, it can be hard to make sure all of them get their attention here on the blog. Luckily for us, the Urban Outfitters blog has got our back. Here are just a few of the lesser publicized festivals going on this year in cities across the country along with their lineups and respective posters.

Staring At Stars Macrame Tank Dress

Before we begin, I must admit that I almost always never go shopping two days in a row. In fact, I’ve been a savvy spender lately that I really only go shopping once a month. However, when birthday week arrives, all bets are off! This purchase was a complete accident I swear. We returned to Urban Outfitters on Sunday so that Kevin could make an exchange. I saw this dress on Saturday,  but didn’t think much of it because I had already picked out a dress for my birthday, but believing there was no harm in trying it on (wrong the harm is actually done to your wallet) – I took it with me to the dressing room and fell in love with it.

Which dress will I wear out for my birthday celebration?!

And in case you all were wondering…the other contender is:
