The Closet: Jan 2021

[Vince Tapered Pants] – $245 – $171.50

Somehow 2021 got us into different types of pants. However, given the current state of the world, isn’t that going against the grain a bit? I’m personally taking it as a sign that we’re all just more than ready to get back to normalcy. More than ever, I was hearing from my colleagues that they are ready to get back to the office in January. As much as we all appreciate the flexibility of loungewear, anything in excess starts to become a bad thing. We’re a few days late on this post, but here are some of my favorite pieces from last month:

The Closet: November 2020

[Topshop Clara Shirt Jacket] – $140

As always, the theme is cozy here. Never have I ever leaned into the lounge wear trend more than I have now, but I know someday, I’ll be able to mix and match these pieces for more acceptable outfits in the outside world. In addition to comfortability, now is the best time to stock up on basics. I’ve come to the realization that that is truly something you can never have enough of. Until now, it’s also not something that I prioritized. We are getting a head start on posting this now so that we can begin an earlier release date for our holiday gift guide. Enjoy!

The Closet: September 2020

[RE/DONE Ribbed Tank] – $80

We don’t believe in no white after Labor Day so here are some favorite pieces included in this post. Also, talk about losing track of time here. It was only today that I realized, I hadn’t posted this and that we were way past due on it. I’ve combed through everything once more just to make sure that these pieces were still available. In the meantime, we’ll get started on October!

The Closet: August 2020

[Society6 Whimsical Sky Face Mask] – $16.99 – $13.59

This is quite possibly the bulkiest Closet post we’ve created in awhile! The good thing though is the pieces are all at the intersection of summer and fall. I’m also convinced that there’s something in here for everyone and at varying price points. Even a lot of the summer-y pieces can be transformed for fall wear. For example, the jumpsuit below? Pop a chunky sweater over it and you’ve got a look. We’ve been doing a lot of shopping lately ourselves so even though I’ve shared all of these here with you, I personally need to refrain from buying these myself. Enjoy!

The Closet: March 2020

[H&M Paper-Bag Pants] – $29.99

Putting together “The Closet” this month hit a little bit differently than usual. With everything going on, the desire to shop or spend money on non-essential belongings just isn’t a priority. However, I don’t want things to stop entirely. The Closet has been a regular post since the very beginning. We can’t help that through this, we’ve now entered spring. What I decided was that it’s important to have choices and to allow all of us to make our own decisions. Me not spending money right now is a personal choice, but for all of you that maybe lean on shopping as a distraction or to have a little joy (like I’ve done before) by all means, go ahead!

Fall in the City

Dress – Urban Outfitters / Sandals – Oak + Fort / Sunlasses – Marc Jacobs

Nobody loves re-wearing a wedding guest dress for day-to-day more than me. I think it’s because at the end of the day, I love a good challenge. And the thing that most people believe is that you can’t wear a wedding guest outside of a wedding. To that, I think we should respond with changing your mentality. Which one of the dresses that you own can be worn to a wedding? Obviously, there are a few exceptions here – no white, nothing that steals attention from the bride, nothing low cut, etc.

Most of the time, I buy dresses with the intent that they are for someone else’s wedding. The challenge of making it daytime appropriate though never ends up being too difficult. Layers are your friends. But my best kept secret? Wear it with confidence. No one has to know that you wore it to a wedding. Wear it like it’s your day time outfit and you’d be surprised at how many people won’t even notice.

A Valentine’s Day For Yourself

[Daisy Saucer] – $80

Every year, my friends fall into a number of categories when it comes to Valentine’s Day. There are those that are single and hate it, those who are single and revel in it, those that are coupled up and dread it, and those that are coupled up and love it. The latter is typically the smallest pool as you might imagine. Say what you will about Valentine’s Day being a corporate money-making holiday, but it doesn’t have to be. It’s not just a day for couples to celebrate love; it can be a celebration of yourself too. So, if you find that your newly engaged friend is celebrating the day with her partner, perhaps by going out for dinner or by gifting him chocolates wrapped in personalized candy wrappers, do not feel low (or do not hate your single life).

Instead, look for ways to celebrate this day in solitude. Who’s to say you need to be coupled up to be happy anyway? There’s nothing that can stop you from treating yourself to a special gift, perhaps a valentines day bracelet (you can try here to purchase some), a special meal, or a spa experience to show yourself some love. Why not go with your other single mates and enjoy the day together? Or, you could all go for a massive meal and really annoy those couple’s trying to have a romantic dinner. It’s better than wallowing in self-pity whilst you eat a tub of ice cream watching Netflix by yourself!

If you’re one of those that are single and revels in it, good for you! You’ve obviously found happiness in and of yourself, and you don’t need anyone to regulate your emotions! Whether you enjoy going out on the pull for a casual hookup, or you just enjoy watching videos of Angela White or some other porn star in the comfort of your own home, this day is just as much for you as it is for anyone!

If you’re one of those that are coupled and dreads it, you’re not alone. Valentine’s Day brings with it a lot of pressure to perform in terms of finding the perfect gift, cooking the perfect food, and even doing well in bed. It can be stressful trying to perform in all areas, and then you have to out-perform yourself compared to last year too. The first part anyway could be sorted out by getting a customized gift designed solely for your partner. You could choose from a variety of custom-made gift options available online. For instance, you could go for a canvas printed with your couple photos, a coffee mug, or even a cute hoodie (here are some premium custom hoodies); go for anything that would charm your partner the most. When it comes to excelling in the other parts, take a step back and remember that this day is simply a day of love. a step back and remember that this day is simply a day of love. It doesn’t need any grand gesture – your partner should already know that you love them. Keep things simple and you’ll both enjoy the day much more.

If you’re one of those that are coupled and loves it, well, this article isn’t for you. Go away and be happy together somewhere away from the rest of us. You’ve obviously found the magic ingredient, so congrats on that.

This year, we’re putting together a gift guide of things that might be nice to have for yourself. No one needs to know where it came from and you don’t owe anyone an explanation. Happy Valentine’s Day to YOU and happy gifting!

But Have You Tried The Sandwich?

Tank Top – Nordstrom / Denim Jacket – Gap / Jeggings – Uniqlo / Heels – Vince Camuto / Cap – Urban Outfitters

Call us a bandwagon fan because I had never eaten Popeyes before I learned about this deal they had on Tuesdays. For context though, this deal has been in place prior to the hype around the sandwich, which I’ve had twice. Twice in both versions to be specific – spicy and non-spicy. 10/10 would recommend to every one of y’all!

It’s unclear whether this golden hour is the sole reason why this is nearly my favorite photo of the year or if it’s Popeyes, but it’s likely the joy spread across my face because I’m excited to eat a great meal.

Park Winters Wedding

Dress – Nordstrom / Clutch – Urban Outfitters / Boots – Something Navy

We’ve spent some time talking about Sherwin’s wedding earlier this year, but this is the first time I’m revealing what I wore! When considering a wedding guest dress, I always try to have the couple in mind. It’s fun to get to choose elements of what I think they’re style is and try to re-create that in an outfit. In all honesty though, this dress isn’t quite Anji or Sherwin’s aesthetic at all. Their engagement photos were taken in Everlane and was totally minimalistic.

Some trends that I wanted to incorporate into a wedding outfit this year did include polka dots or pink. This dress just happened to have both. I always wear very standard heels to weddings, but I wanted to try and push it by trying to wear the white boots that I love. I’m not sure if I pulled it off, but I seemed to think that they were working the day of. Since the wedding was early spring, the sleeves were appropriate. In general, it’s a bit of a conservative dress, but the slit adds a little something.

The wedding took place at Park Winters, which has been one of my favorite venues to date. It was perfectly separated into distinct areas for the event: ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dance party. Everything flowed so easily and it was such a beautiful evening and celebration.

Joggers For Everyday Wear

Joggers – Alternative Apparel / Lace tee – Urban Outfitters / Cardigan – Oak + Fort / Heels – Vince Camuto

I’m not someone that needs to own a million pairs of sweat pants. In fact, I am happy just owning one and wearing them forever, but I had a natural curiosity recently to embrace the jogger look. Not only can you wear them at home and still be stylish, you can actually wear them out and still be functional. I had been inspired by quite a few looks that I had seen on Instagram and Pinterest lately so I decided to give it a shot. Alternative Apparel was a solid choice because I already own and know that I like their sweat pants.

However, anyone that knows me knows that this look isn’t my aesthetic for work. If it were up to me, I’d be wearing dresses and heels every day, but with variation. I was worried that the joggers, would give off the impression of a look that was too casual. So how did I actually feel by the end of the day? I was cozy all day, but it was a huge change from my normal wear. I didn’t feel like myself! When I wore the joggers, it was the day after I bought them so they were still fitted and structured. If I were to wear the joggers next week to work, they wouldn’t have that same fit as the first day. In photographs, this look isn’t that bad actually, but I do think that there are many other people that can pull this look better than I can.
