2021 Grammys Red Carpet

Harry Styles in Gucci

I can’t tell if I’m being too harsh on award shows during a pandemic, but did anyone else find the Grammys to be particularly boring this year? Also, why didn’t I laugh at anything Trevor Noah said? The highlight of this show was less than a handful of performance and three outfit changes by Harry Styles.

2021 Critics Choice Awards

Zendaya in Valentino Haute Couture

The awards show last night was a bit overshadowed by the Oprah interview with formal royals so unfortunately I didn’t get to watch any part of it. I will say, however, that this was the first look that I saw and the photograph that let me know these two events were happening the same night. I knew from the start that this was going to be my favorite look and sure enough as I prepared to write this post, it was the first look at the top of my source.

Typically, we’d be introduced to all of these looks via the red carpet, but I actually am loving this new format. It’s very cool to see these in portrait style and seeing how celebrities are highlighting their looks with different backdrops. This might be something I want to stay post-pandemic.

We Have to Talk About This Toast

View this post on Instagram

This time it's blueberries and kneaded sesame seeds on sweet toast. The sourness and sweetness are well-balanced, and it's delicious all the way through. This is the least challenging (yet delicious & cute) toast I've ever made 💐 please try it in the mornings when you can afford it 😇

One of the best parts about quarantine is being able to see everyone else’s creative projects. When we aren’t hopping from one social activity to another after work or on the weekends, where do we spend our time? What things can we build when we give ourselves the space for it? If you’re like me, you’ll turn to TikTok. However, some are getting further into the details. Japanese artist, Manami Sasaki, is creating beautifully designed toasts. You thought your local avocado toast was good; this is next level. With inspiration from artists like Picasso to characters like Mickey Mouse, Sasaki lets her imagination fly.

Each piece of toast will take about three hours to create. Like the artist that she is, everything is laid out to a tee. First comes the concept before she skips off to the market for the actual ingredients. For an entire gallery of everything she’s created during this time, visit her [Instagram].

—— Today I'm paying homage to a poster by Japanese designer IKKO TANAKA.🇯🇵👘 Actually, this is the third time I've paid homage to him. 😇 Check out the previous posts if you like. Today, I tried to make the ingredients look quite three-dimensional, look at the third picture.👉

Clueless and the Iconic Yellow Plaid

Last weekend, I decided to randomly watch “Clueless on a whim.” It had been on my list to re-watch for some time mostly because I couldn’t remember the plot. I was reminded of it recently only because Claudia Kishi had paid homage to the iconic outfit in the latest rendition of The Babysitter’s Club. Can you believe that the film just celebrated its 25th anniversary? Is anyone else surprised that my mother let me watch this film when I was five years old? Looking back on it now, it was pretty harmless considering I didn’t know what most of those references even meant.

Also, I didn’t care about any of that stuff or that Cher was still a virgin. We were obviously there for the fashion and the incredible closet feature that I’m still wondering about to this day. I love this video by Vogue where Alicia Silverstone revists her former character and how that yellow plaid has remained an icon even in 2020.

Vogue Gets Ready With Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

I love everything about this video. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is such a role model for my generation right now and I admire her in many ways. Her ability to push back, speak up for herself, and own who she is is going to shape the way women see ourselves going forward. This video of Vogue highlighting her ‘getting ready’ routine is more than what the title is. We see Alexandria starting her day, sharing the details of her day, why she chooses certain products over others and being her true authentic self. In fact, that’s what I like most about this video. She is no different than when she is being filmed for work or on her social media. Her voice doesn’t go up 5 octaves and she’s not pitching anything that she doesn’t stand behind.

We know that Alexandria doesn’t aspire to be an influencer, but if she did, she’d be off to a great start with something like this.
