Now This Is A Business Card

With graduation just around the corner, I’ve been seeking advice from a few people that I look up to – friends, mentors, advisors, and professors on how to approach the job application process. One aspect that I have always been intrigued by is the business card. I’ve only ever had one business card before in my life and it was created on a whim by a friend of mine for four boys that were coming to town that I had a chance to interview for Yow Yow!

However, I would love to have a business card of my own and one that is definitely an attention grabber. Holiday Matinee introduced me to this one above from Jeff Nicholas of creative agency, The Creative Uprising. I’d never heard of the agency or his name before, but as soon as I saw this, I went to their website immediately!

It’s so simple, but yet says so much.

One Year Ago Today

- Seattle Restaurant Week began! This year, it runs through April 8-19. Check out the participating restaurants here.

- We viewed Death Cab For Cutie’s live music video for “You Are A Tourist.”

- We read some news and stuff.

- Madewell debuted their Fall 2011 collection and it was glorious!

- I got a little antsy about summer wedding season. Ashley and I spent 45 minutes watching wedding/proposal videos this evening.

- I wanted to buy some things. What else is new?

Most importantly, I discussed the 21 things I learned from my 21st birthday!

- There were a few things that I was obsessing over and they were awesome. Enough said.

- This infographic already told us what we already knew about the Pacific Northwest.

- This book was pretty cool.

- I wondered why Washington never had any cool prints made for them like this one.

- This is the best excuse I’ve ever seen.

Ashley and I had ourselves two incredible meals in Seattle today, but I could really go for some ramen from my favorite spot in Vancouver right about now. Every time Kevin and I make a  trip up there, we always make a stop at Kintaro. They’ve got the best ramen I have ever had (well, having ramen in Japan is on a whole different playing field,) but more importantly there’s corn and lots of it! I don’t think I’ve ever told you guys this, but I’m a huge fan of the vegetable – not like you needed to know or anything, but it’s great with everything, including Kintaro Ramen.

Have any of you ever eaten there? If you make a stop there on your next visit, be sure to let me know what you think!

Prom Dresses For The Classy High School Students

With shows like Dancing with the Stars and outrageous red carpet gowns, it is no surprise that school administrators have been cracking down on the dress codes recently. Schools districts all over the country have gone as far as creating a guide for their students informing them what types of dresses are banned from their formal dance. The times have definitely changed since I was a high school student because this was never an issue for my peers.

However, from a young girl’s perspective – I get it. Short is sexy. Cutouts are intriguing. See-through gowns are mysterious…maybe? But there’s a difference. You can incorporate trends without being over the top and can ere on the side of classy over trashy. You may think that the only way to be fashion forward is to be sexy, but you’re going to Prom to wear a beautiful dress and to have an incredible time with your friends and your date. The sexiest thing about a someone at Prom is confidence and you don’t need a dress to do that for you. Here are some of my favorite picks for the season:

Floating Cinema

Participating in activities in places where they do not belong is riveting to me. Would you ever, in your life, imagine a floating cinema out in the middle of the water? No, of course not. This is probably the coolest thing I’ve seen all week though and I would jump at the chance to be able to watch a film here in Yao Noi, Thailand.

The Floating Cinema was designed by the talented architect, Ole Scheeran.

Check out more incredible photos here.

Anthropologie’s Earth Day Involvement

I don’t think I could ever stop raving about Anthropologie’s store windows. The retailer never ceases to amaze me with their innovative and intricate displays and they are simply gorgeous. Why can’t my home look like this all the time? Someday…right? Here are just a few of my favorite snapshots of their store windows celebrating Earth Day 2012!

I was watching TV the other day when a commercial came on advertising Papa Murphy’s new Mini Murph Pizza Kid. Wait a second…is this similar to a Lunchables’ Pizza, but with fresher ingredients and high quality taste?

Where can I get myself some of this? There better not be an age cap.

Spring Dresses Preview

photo cred | Aritzia

It’s the MOST won-der-ful time of the year!

Technically, Andy Williams sings this song for the Christmas season, but there should be a tune for the season of spring, wouldn’t you agree?

One of my favorite retailers, Aritzia, debuted a new post today on their blog featuring this beautiful array of dresses in the season’s best hues. I couldn’t be more excited, really. To see just a couple of the dresses in more detail, click here.

Seattle Making My Dreams Come True

Would you believe that I have never ever been on a Ferris Wheel in my entire life? I think they are some of the most wondrous inventions I have ever seen, but yet I’ve never actually taken the plunge to get on the ride and see what it was all about. Since Seattle Center is renovating their grounds and have removed the Fun Forest pretty much, I took that as a sign that they would be getting rid of the Ferris Wheel too. Imagine my surprise today when I discovered that construction has begun for the new Ferris Wheel on the waterfront located on Pier 57. The above photograph is a proposed rendition of the Ferris Wheel.

The Ferris Wheel will be 175 ft tall and should be finished by June.

OH. MY. GOODNESS.

The wheel will have 42 gondolas that will be fully enclosed and air conditioned.  One VIP gondola will also feature a glass bottom, giving riders a view beneath them.

I could cry tears of joy right about now.

Anthropologie Launches New Collaboration Website Made In Kind

On April 5th, the URBN Inc. brand will launch a new online platform through Anthropologie that will feature collaborative collections from 11 designers. The website, Made in Kind, will feature some incredible pieces from well known designers  such as Karen Walker and Gregory Parkinson as well as some designers that you may not have heard of yet. The brand will aim to highlight style and design over big names in the industry.

In a release, Anthropologie says Made In Kind will function as a gallery “housing multiple exhibitions per month, each dedicated to a single designer or concept.” There will also be editorial content to go along with the collaborations. Additionally, select items will be available in stores and through the catalog.

The Sketchbook Project 2012

I’m not exactly sure what the Sketchbook Project 2012 world tour is all about right now, but what I do know is that it is a project that connects creative artists and designers from around the globe. This video above was made by Christina Paone and is entitled, “Sometime in the Next 50 Years…”

It is absolutely beautiful. Not only is the entire design structure of it just captivating, but being able to see her sketch and paint through her goals is moving because I believe it’s something that resonates with all of us.

Punchfork

photo cred | Life Hacker

It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of food. Photographs of food, reading about food, making it, but more importantly eating it – is something I look forward to every day. So when I discovered Punchfork today, my level of excitement was Kristen Bell sloth status. Punchfork is basically kind of like a Pinterest for food featuring photographs and forwarding you to recipes that you are interested in.

I think I need to start an account.

A Collection Part 30

A Softer World

Happy spring readers! We’re long overdue for a Collection post so I thought I would leave you with one before I embark on the rest of my spring break venturing for the week. It’s definitely shorter than usual, but still packed with pretty pictures. I wanted to kick off this collection post with a comic from one of my favorite sites, A Softer World. Together, they are the perfect combination of beautiful photography and witty thoughts.

Enjoy!
