Wedding Mondays

Since I’m on my holiday vacation, I finally have some time to share the posts that I want to share! We haven’t been consistent with Wedding Mondays in the last year and that may be for a couple of reasons. Wedding videos are getting to be a lot longer! They pile up for me at the end of every week and instead of looking forward to them like I used to, Wedding Mondays feels like a chore. I’m into my 2nd week of vacation though and tonight, the idea of wedding videos felt calming to me. As the years go on, I become a bit pickier. I’m surprised at how quickly this caught my attention and became the one I wanted to post though.

From Lily’s dress to the Southwestern wedding venue, every detail seemed like a dream. It looked like the type of party you wanted to go to. It’s a celebration, but casual and not too stuffy the way some weddings often times feel. You never hear Lily and David speak in this video, but from their interactions and body language, you can tell that they are a fun and playful couple.

For all of the details, I highly recommend checking out their post on [Green Wedding Shoes]

Wedding Mondays

It’s the night before I leave for the holidays and I should definitely be packing right now. Instead, we’re taking more than several minutes to share with you my latest and favorit-est wedding video. If you’ve been following Yow Yow! since the beginning then you know I’m one of Bri Emery’s biggest fans. She is the founder behind [designlovefest] and an incredible designer and creator. Bri is one of the original bloggers that I followed when I was first starting out and I continue to be inspired by her still.

Even when I was designing my [graduation project], Bri’s style and creativity made its way into the final product. When I came across her wedding feature on Green Wedding Shoes, I knew without a doubt, that I would love it. Shot by Sharkpig, another one of my favorite videography vendors, the video is 11 minutes of pure love and joy.

I think you all are really going to love this one!

Taylor Swift – Lover (First Dance Remix)

After hearing “Lover” for the first time, I wondered if I’d be hearing it at any of my upcoming weddings next year. Coming from someone who has an entire playlist of songs that can be used at weddings, it embodies many “first dance” traits. The pace and tempo, lyrics, and Taylor’s vocals are among a few of those. This is the third version of the song so far, but there’s a noticeable difference between this one, the original, and the one with Shawn Mendes. Any takes on whether we’ll hear a 4th version before the end of the year?

Wedding Mondays

I’ve been following [Lucie Fink] and her videos for years ever since she joined Refinery29. In fact, while I have no video talent whatsoever, she’s the one that made reconsider including more video. I’m still at beginner level and the closest I’ve gotten is with Instagram Stories, but she was my original inspiration.

What I have enjoyed about Lucie is that she opens up to her audience quite a bit. Over the years, we’ve learned about her career, her family, her present day life, and more importantly her relationship with Michael. We’ve followed her through her entire journey and it’s that kind of present-ness that I hope to have for Yow Yow! someday too.

I watched her wedding video while on my commute the other day and embarrassingly, found my eyes welling up with tears. Yes, this still happens to us.

Park Winters Wedding

Dress – Nordstrom / Clutch – Urban Outfitters / Boots – Something Navy

We’ve spent some time talking about Sherwin’s wedding earlier this year, but this is the first time I’m revealing what I wore! When considering a wedding guest dress, I always try to have the couple in mind. It’s fun to get to choose elements of what I think they’re style is and try to re-create that in an outfit. In all honesty though, this dress isn’t quite Anji or Sherwin’s aesthetic at all. Their engagement photos were taken in Everlane and was totally minimalistic.

Some trends that I wanted to incorporate into a wedding outfit this year did include polka dots or pink. This dress just happened to have both. I always wear very standard heels to weddings, but I wanted to try and push it by trying to wear the white boots that I love. I’m not sure if I pulled it off, but I seemed to think that they were working the day of. Since the wedding was early spring, the sleeves were appropriate. In general, it’s a bit of a conservative dress, but the slit adds a little something.

The wedding took place at Park Winters, which has been one of my favorite venues to date. It was perfectly separated into distinct areas for the event: ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dance party. Everything flowed so easily and it was such a beautiful evening and celebration.

Wedding Mondays

It is such a treat when I get permission to share a wedding video from one my friends. In our last Wedding Mondays post, it may have seemed like I was completely fed up with the series that I created on Yow Yow! but this post is quite the opposite. You may not believe me, but I likely would have posted this even if I didn’t know Anji and Sherwin. Prior to them hiring Kapsule Co. I had been following them on Instagram for some time. It’s unclear how I first discovered them, but I loved them for their simplicity and timeless elegance. It’s not just the weddings they shoot that fall into this category, it’s their natural aesthetic. The only downside? We wished the wedding video could have been longer because it left us wanting more – just like the day itself.

Sherwin and I met as coworkers back in 2014 and remained friends even after we both left the company. It was that same friendship that led us to working together again in present time. So of course, nothing could make this more special than seeing someone I’ve worked alongside closely for years get married! It was a perfect day in Winters, California. The venue itself was flawless serving all aspects of the day with four designated areas in one: ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner and dance party. I haven’t seen a better transition from one area to another in any other wedding that I’ve attended.

In addition to their Winters wedding, Anji and Sherwin also had a ceremony in China. This juxtaposition within the wedding video of merging these two events is one of my favorite parts and a nice addition given that many of their friends and family didn’t get to see this part since it was kept small.

Honestly, my commentary of this wedding doesn’t do it any justice. Instead, here’s a nice feature of it from the Park Winters [wedding blog] that is worth reading/viewing from start to finish!

Wedding Mondays

It’s been a little bit quiet on the “Wedding Mondays” front and there’s a perfectly good reason for that. In a way, we’ve sort of outgrown wedding videos! Don’t worry; I was as shocked as you when I discovered this revelation in myself too. Here’s how I got to this point though. When you’ve been watching wedding videos on a consistent basis for this many years, you’ve seen them all. When I first started this series, I would watch a handful and love every single one. Back then in 2009-2010, having a wedding videographer wasn’t as popular because it was another expense. As more and more vendors come onto the scene, I find myself identifying with very few.

More often times than not, I will start a video and within seconds, I know I don’t want to finish it. It’s not because I know it won’t be good, but because I know how it will end. Those aren’t the videos that I want to see anymore and of course, I want to stress that this is in no way meant to be disrespectful to a) couples or b) the videographers who have made a living out of this. But at the end of the day, I do decide what I want to post.

For Yow Yow! though we’ve just outgrown this tradition that we’ve known grown to love. I know this doesn’t come as a surprise because the time in between from every last “Wedding Mondays” post would start to stretch even longer. From time to time, there will be a video that I’ll come across and want to post, but it just feels like the right time to sunset this series. Don’t worry; I still love them. I still want every friend of mine to have a wedding video no matter what.

I chose this one today because it was, in my eyes, different! I love seeing shots of Europe and destination weddings mostly because I have never been to Europe myself. The detail shots completely make this and the bride’s headpiece was a scene stealer for sure. To view the entire post on Style Me Pretty click [here]

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas Married In Vegas

Trust me when I tell you that I never thought Sophie and Joe would become one of my favorite celebrity couples. I’ve always been a fan of The Jonas Brothers from the start, but I have never really watched Game of Thrones. I don’t even know their backstory even though I’m sure I could find it out in five seconds through a Google search.

Sophie first caught my eye when she appeared in their comeback music video for “Sucker” alongside the other Jonas wives. Back then, she was still a fiance, but a total scene stealer in the best way possible. Her moves were dynamic and unforgettable. Who could forget her taking a bite out of the bush? The two were slated to marry this summer in Europe, but then in a curveball move, headed to the alter in Vegas after the Billboard Music Awards. Did anyone see this coming? Both reps for the two have already confirmed that the two are, indeed, married. Diplo even live streamed the event for his Instagram. It’s poor taste because I would never do that, but it felt like all rules were out with this one. Congrats to the happy couple! Sophie wore a white Bevsa jumpsuit, but we can’t wait to see what she wears for their 2nd summer wedding.

Last Summer’s Weddings

My month long summer vacation ended with two back-to-back weddings. I’m not talking two weekends in a row; I mean consecutive Friday and Saturday weddings. Believe it or not, one of my best friends decided to elope that same week as well! While I wasn’t jumping at the chance to have three weddings in a row (hers was Thursday) if logistics had worked out, I would attended. I hate to miss anyone’s wedding, but what can you do?

I’m headed to my first wedding of the year in two weeks – for that girl ^^ so the timing is perfect. Both of these summer weddings were quite different from each other so I wanted to use it as an opportunity to try out two looks. For the first wedding, we stayed local in the Presidio. That black and white polka dotted dress with bell sleeves only cost me $8 at H&M. It was the best “steal” I ever landed! I don’t know what prompted me to pull it off the rack because normally it’s not a dress I would gravitate towards. It had also been years since I had stepped foot into H&M. This dress combined with the high pony and yellow clutch is going down in history as my favorite wedding guest look.

For the next night, we ventured east to Livermore in wine country! It was so warm that I needed something light and breezy. Finding a dress for this wedding turned out to be more challenging for me. We actually landed on it the day before and because I was in a pinch, I went with something I knew would work: Reformation. Readers, have you ever worn a dress to a wedding with a white base? I had deep anxiety over this and almost didn’t follow through with the dress. Since forever, my rule has always been no white to any wedding. I’ll admit, I never once forgot that the base of my dress was white the entire night and it bothered me. As much as I love Reformation dresses, I didn’t quite feel like myself in this one. The H&M felt much more in our wheelhouse!

Since it was the last two weddings of the summer, I also decided to splurge on working with Glamsquad. For Friday’s San Francisco wedding, I had their assistance for the high pony. You all know I could never do that myself! And for Saturday, I hired them to help with makeup. This isn’t something that will become routine for me because it’s not like it’s cheap. However, I think when there’s a certain look you are trying to achieve, but can’t, they are who you want to call.

So far, we’ve just got two weddings on the agenda for the year. I’d love to try out new trends as they come for the wedding season and am taking recommendations now!
