Bay Area Eats:

Growing up in Seattle, Mexican food was just never high up on my radar. Pacific Northwest born and raised, I was very partial to seafood, but I’m quickly learning by living here in the Bay that Mexican food is everywhere. I have a coworker that tells me he pretty much spends all of his weekends eating it.

While we were in Oakland for the Mayer Hawthorne concert, I wanted to try and make a day trip out of it, but traffic is never on my side. I also realized that for some extraordinary restaurants here in the Bay you have to make some severe reservations – something that I NEVER did in Seattle. Not wanting to miss any part of our show and the opening acts (Hello, Quadron!) Ashli and I decided to check out a taco joint recommended to us by a friend of hers. Xolo was a little hard to spot since there wasn’t a noticeable sign, but it was so so good! If I’m ever going to the Fox Theater again in the future, Xolo will be my place to grab a bite.

I ordered the Pollo tacos – grilled achiote marinated chicken thighs, avocado salsa, pickled red onions, cilantro. Just two will do the job. And Ashli ordered horchata, which I tried for the first time and thought was amazing.
