Top Models Take on Silicon Valley

I sort of stopped in my tracks the other day when I came across this editorial in Silicon Valley featuring Karlie Kloss, Gigi Hadid, and Kendall Jenner alongside a few CEOs in the tech industry. It’s one of those things where you feel like they just don’t go together, but then in a weird way they sort of do. If Eva Chen can pull it off, why can’t Gigi and Kendall? Karlie is probably the closest to tech out of those two (other than the fact that Kendall has a heavily followed Instagram user) because of her connection to Kode with Karlie – an organization that supports young girls coding. It’s actually really adorable. Anyways, we thought we’d share the editorial because here on Yow Yow! we love all things fashion and we have since the blog was born and I now currently work in tech so there’s that connection… you know.

Wireless Music Festival 2015

Oops! We totally dropped the ball on this music festival lineup when it was released. If you’re still looking for 4th of July plans, you can stream the festival through Yahoo! Music. We would really encourage you to get outside though, but I (more than most people) know that the want to catch your favorite artist’s set can be hi-pri at times.

Start streaming here.

Yahoo Unveils New Logo

For the past month, Yahoo has been unveiling little teasers about what the redesign of their new logo would look like. Tonight, we finally have our answer! Their intentions were to create a logo that was “whimsical, purple, with an exclamation point.” Looks like the design satisfies just that! In addition to releasing the logo, the company also produced this video to accompany it.

Nice song choice Yahoo. We happen to enjoy Empire of the Sun as well!

As for the logo, I like that the letters are a lot straighter than they used to be. The old logo was a little kooky, yeah? What do you guys think?

Yahoo Acquires Tumblr For $1.1 Billion

The news was released this morning, but it has taken me until the end of the day to post about it. This morning it was announced that Yahoo purchased Tumblr for $1.1 billion. Can you imagine what you could do with that much? Apparently, buy out an entire social media platform. At Yow Yow! we like our Yahoo, but we like our Tumblr a little more only because Tumblr provides us with the inspiration to construct our “A Collection” posts. With this new acquisition, everyone is wondering how things will change. I read an article this morning that the number of WordPress users spiked last night as they migrated their Tumblrs over to my platform. I also heard Yahoo CEO Marissa Meyer promise “not to screw it up.”

“The product roadmap, their team, their wit and irreverence will all remain the same as will their mission to empower creators to make their best work and get it in front of the audience they deserve.”

With Tumblr going corporate, I could see a lot of great things coming out of this, but as always you can’t make everyone happy and there are certainly those that are unhappy. For now. Readers, I know some of you are on Tumblr. How do you feel about the new change? Will you stick with the company and remain loyal or will you make a switch?

Flickr Gives All Users 1TB Of Free Storage

Today, is just a big news day for Yahoo isn’t it?! Today Flickr gave every single one of their users 1TB of free storage. That’s a lot. I actually started using Flickr back in 2007 and after I stopped renewing my pro account I was only limited to about 300 photos that I was able to view. News about storage expansion though is exciting because it now gives me another reason to return back to the photo-sharing website that I once loved. In addition to the storage, the interface has been completely revamped displaying photos in a BIG and bold way from your profile page.

weird menswear

1. Men’s Fashion…it’s something to be afraid of. Vern discovered this last week and it was just too ridiculous NOT to post. [Yahoo]

2. A little Japanese girl named Rino loves to eat the food that her mother makes her from all over the world. I can’t believe I spent this much time watching her eat, but it’s so cute. So worth it. Cuteness starts at 2:15. [Source]

3. It’s here! Check out Warby Parker’s annual report. It’s quite pretty. [Source]

4. OkCupid has launched a new dating app called Crazy Blind Date that will supposedly change dating for our generation. [Source]

5. I love spices. In fact, it’s always been a dream of mine to own a spice rack. I feel like you’re not a real adult unless you have one and actually use it. I have no idea what these spices taste like, but I found this post on [Cool Material] and I think any spice with this clever name has to be good. Or maybe it isn’t.

Today, journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee were finally pardoned after their arrest in North Korea on March 17th.

Former President Bill Clinton, made an unnanounced trip to North Korea today to meet with the country’s leader Kim Jong ll to negotiate a release on these two women.

And I’m not going to give my summary because Yahoo news did it a lot better here

But this is great news, I’m glad this has been resolved.
