Hulu Cancels “High Fidelity”

Announcing their renewals and cancellations this week, Hulu has decided to cut “High Fidelity.” This wasn’t a show that was highly publicized, but it was worth watching. Somewhere in the middle of quarantine, I finished “High Fidelity” in two days and was sure that they’d be picked up for a second season. Not knowing how “Rob’s” story will continue is deeply disappointing. At times, I will admit, Rob was frustrating. She was our best friend that couldn’t get her life together and at times, she was us who was truly a mess. Her story, nonetheless, was beautiful. In my list of things watched in quarantine, “High Fidelity” had the best soundtrack of all.

The news of the cancellation is quite confusing in itself. “High Fidelity” received rave reviews and Zoe Kravitz as the lead was incredibly relatable. On top of that, she was one of the executive producers on the show. In today’s climate where everyone is calling for more diversity in television, the cancellation feels likes the wrong move. Even if “High Fidelity” were to switch to another network or streaming platform, the chances would be low. We’re not sure why that is given Zoe Kravitz is tied to it and the show already has a fanbase. For now, we’ll be crossing our fingers that it can be saved!

BAFTAs 2020 Red Carpet

Florence Pugh in Dries van Noten

I thought we were going to have a little bit of a break this week from award show season with the Super Bowl happening, but I was wrong! Sure, the British Academy Film Awards is not a US award show, but it does recognize nearly all of the other films that are nominated here in the states. This year’s red carpet is one of my favorites! Coincidentally enough, at the top of my list are a handful of all black gowns which I can’t wait to share with you below. Can any of you guess my favorites?

2020 Screen Actors Guild Awards Red Carpet

Kathryn Newton in Valentino

I know it’s a little bit early to be saying this, but this might be my favorite red carpet set in a very long time. We are loving the color, the beautiful black gowns, and the off-the-shoulder looks. It was hard to narrow down my favorites and even as I’m thinking about it, I don’t know if I even can. We still have the upcoming Grammy’s and the Oscars, but this has set the bar high!

Zoe Kravitz for Elle

We haven’t shared a cover shoot in some time, but we would if everything Zoe was wearing in it was stunning. We’d like to see more of this in 2020 and more of Zoe in films and television.

This dress is amazing; we need it.

Zoë Kravitz is Selina Kyle

It’s not confirmed yet that she’ll be Catwoman, but if we’re following the comics correctly, that’s basically what is going to happen. We couldn’t think of anyone more perfect to fill this role than Zoë. As Bonnie in the last two seasons of “Big Little Lies,” I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what her next big role would be. She will star opposite of Robert Pattison in the upcoming The Batman film with a slated release of June 25, 2021.

2019 Met Gala Red Carpet

Liza Koshy in Balmain

I had to look up the “Camp” theme several times to figure out what it truly meant. I’m still not quite sure if I understand the definition of it. My takeaway is that it’s pink, tulle, and crowns and we do not hate it. In all honesty, I’m a huge fan of the pink carpet and I loved many of the looks from the evening. However, I will say that this year was the most extravagant. What I loved about previous years was how wearable these looks have been and instead it’s turned into a little bit more of a spectacle than I would have liked. Maybe that’s what the point of the Met Gala is. It’s supposed to be a showcase of whimsey and imagination and if that’s the. case then I will get on board next year, but for now I want to hold onto what I thought made this event on the first Monday in May every year so special.

2019 Oscars After Parties

Gabrielle Union in Valentino

If you thought the red carpet was the main event, think again! Coming up, you’ll find looks that are a little more daring. The slits are higher, hemlines shorter, and everyone that wasn’t invited to the actual event shows up for the party. These looks were designed for the after parties and it’s something to get excited about! Many of the nominees arrive to the after party events in a second look! Like every year, this year’s event was no exception and everyone looked grand.

Readers, any standout favorites for y’all?

2018 Met Gala Red Carpet

Amal Clooney in Richard Quinn with George by her side

Before I left the office tonight, my friend and coworker, Courtney, remarked that tonight’s Met Gala was the equivalent of a Super Bowl to anyone else. She wasn’t wrong! I put in the extra hours of work this weekend so that I could free up my Monday evening to work on crafting this post. Before I came home, I also went out for a glass of wine with a friend so that I could a) appreciate every look for the piece of art that is and b) to let my true opinions for every outfit shine through! Throughout the day in all my meetings, I was closely watching the coverage seeing bits and pieces here and there, but never spoiling it all for myself until I was able to digest it when I got home. I can’t imagine a better photograph to kick start this post.

This year’s 2018 exhibition was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.”
