Glee Flashmob

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhbK2bMTRbI]

I was first introduced to the idea of “flashmob” when I was visiting Vancouver. After an afternoon of shopping, I stopped by a stack of white steps where nearly 40 people were standing upon. I would’ve kept walking, but everyone on the steps was frozen – literally just not in motion. That was my first taste.

I can’t wait to try this someday!

Out on the Town: 12/20

Come to the Destiny Worldwide office in Kirkland tomorrow for their Christmas party! Andrew de Torres, singer in two of Seattle’s prominent bands to the music scene, Danger Radio and The Scene Aesthetic may give us a special treat with music he has been working on for his solo project. Who knows?!

Also Letter & Lights, who are also from the Seattle area, will be performing as well!

Plus, how can you pass up marked-down merch? You can’t!

Out on the Town: 12/19

Schoolyard Heroes and Kane Hodder will lay to rest in their graves tonight after they perform for their last show EVER. Both bands have had quite the following over the years and will be missed amongst the hardcore crowd. I once witnessed a Schoolyard Heroes performance at Bumbershoot in 2007 and by the end of the set my face was melted off.

If you’re looking for a riot or a place to get down, this is your calling tonight. They may just make you feel like you have never been to a concert worthy of even being called a concert until you have seen them. You can bet that they will go all out.

Show takes place at El Corazon tonight. 8 PM. $15. All ages. Other acts include: Sirens Sister, These Arms Are Snakes, and Blood Cells.

School Rivalry – The Right Way

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7TI-AJi2O8&feature=player_embedded]

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPTd8MgAeqI]

Today, I discovered a very interesting video circulating on YouTube. 500 students from Shorewood High School had come together to create this music video to Hall and Oats’ You Make My Dreams Come True,” after they were challenged by their rival Shorecrest High School. The whole video was filmed backwards! It’s amazing and totally worth the watch. The second video is from Shorecrest. Which do you think is better?

In the past I have seen high school rivalry become downright ugly. I was disappointed to hear earlier this year that there was graffiti written all over the walls, a fire starting, and a classroom window broken. All in one night.

Is this really what school rivalry is all about? Do we have to damage things to make a statement about who’s school is better? This incident will not be the last. The younger generation will hear about it and will always try to upstage them. At what point do we realize it’s time to grow up? You’re hating a school for what? Because you’re supposed to. Because the older kids did and you have to too.

Thank you Shorewood and Shorecrest for participating in a school rivalry that shows spirit, fun, class, and maturity.

A Twitter DON’T

If your son is dying – like right now – you should NOT be on Twitter. In fact, you should be concerned for your SON. Twitter should be the last thing on your mind. Get your priorities straight. Mom tweeter, Shellie Ross, left her 5,000 followers in shock yesterday when she tweeted “Please pray like never before, my 2 yr old fell in the pool.”

Her 2-year-old son Bryson had been floating unconsciously in the pool when her other son discovered this and called 911 to report the incident at 5:23 PM.

The above was tweeted at 6:12 PM. Five hours after the incident, and her youngest son Bryson had already been pronounced dead, guess what  Shellie Ross decided to do? She got back on the Twitter train once again! “Remembering my million dollar baby,” she wrote. Ross included a photo of Bryson in the post, time-stamped at 11:08 p.m. A few minutes later, she posted another photo of her son.”

Oh I am disgusted… it’s like the idea that you do not have a son anymore [probably because you were too busy on Twitter] hasn’t registered because you’d rather inform the entire world that you lost your son than actually mourn for him like normal people.

I think I have a love/hate relationship with Twitter and Facebook status updates.  Shame on you Shellie Ross.

Hey, animals like their toys too

Louis, the giant pacific octopus who lives in the Blue Reef Aquarium in Cornwell, England can’t get enough of his Mr. Potato Head. Caretakers have caught him nuzzling the toy with his beak and if they try to even take him away Louis becomes “aggressive.”

Seattle’s Fun Forest is getting chopped!

Seattle’s Fun Forest in the heart of Seattle Center, is dear and near to the hearts of many locals. When the park opened in 1967, children were in love with it. Those children have grown up and even started bringing their own kids to experience the Fun Forest.

As time went on, Seattle Center expanded and less attention was put on the mini-carnival. I think it’s tough for Seattle to have an amusement park like this year round because three out of the four seasons are somewhat cold and rainy. While I understand that the park has been with Seattle for a very long time, I understand why they are discontinuing it.

The difficult recession and new visions for the Seattle Center are the two main reasons why the Fun Forest is getting cut down. The rides are being sold, broken down, and shipped to become rides at other amusement parks.

The south part of Fun Forest, including the pavilion with the bumper cars and kiddieland, will remain open through Labor Day 2010.

Has anyone seen the movie Adventureland? After watching that movie, I could never look at the Fun Forest the same way.
