“Free Your Secrets and Become Who You Are”

Frank Warren said that he has been deemed the most trustworthy person in the world. He is also the best listener.

It was such a treat to host Frank Warren at our school last night. He is kind and wise. Most importantly, he is a truly inspirational human being. For those of you who don’t know, Frank Warren created his project Post Secret in 2005. He invited people from all over the world to send him their secrets on a post card anonymously. In just five years, he has received over 500,000 postcards. Every Sunday, anxious fans click on the Post Secret blog first thing in the morning for the new batch of released secrets. With these creations, he has been able to compile five books. Five years under Frank’s belt, the project has proved to be a success.

Seattle University was the first school on his Spring 2010 event tour. For many people tonight, it was their first time ever having the opportunity to hear him speak, myself included. I’ve been reading Post Secret since I was fifteen and I can still recall my memories and experiences with this project. They range from the time I  invited the students of my high school to send in their own Post Secrets for our school newspaper to the time I sat in Barnes & Noble at U Village reading through one of Frank’s books when two little pieces of paper fell out – a secret on each of them from the time I sat in Borders on Black Friday three years ago tossing my own secrets into the books.

Tonight’s speech was truly extraordinary. I had heard a lot about his tour before, but tonight was much different than I expected. It was powerful and strong and unique. I imagine that each location he goes to is very different from the next. We were a quiet group, relaxed, but eager to make sure we heard every single word that came out of Frank. Thank you Student Activities for such a great event, and thank you to the audience for sharing with us your stories. Your strength and courage are extremely admirable. I think everyone walked out of the ballroom tonight with a very comforting feeling and an experience that we are able to share with each other.

Hands down…best part of the night was when Max and I got to meet him and have him sign our books and take pictures. I managed to ask one of my questions…

People rely on Frank for so much. Every Sunday, secrets better be up or something has gone wrong we assume. However, the project is so successful right now, there is no way he can stop. Here’s how the conversation kind of went…

Me: Do you think Post Secret will ever end?

Frank: Well, I’ve been doing it for five years and I enjoy it. As of right now I don’t think anytime soon…

Max: Would you maybe pass the reigns onto your son? You have a son right?

Me: Daughter.

Frank: I have a daughter. I don’t know, would maybe you guys want to take over and be the secret keepers?

Me: YES!

Somehow Max also managed to plug my blog. The whole time talking to Frank, all I wanted to do was ask him for an interview for Yow Yow!
