Lily chooses fashion over music

Lily Allen has chosen to retire from her musical career to focus on fashion. This morning, she announced over Sky News that her last concert will be on March 7th at London’s 02.

She will be helping out designer friend Wayne Hemingway with his line Vintage at Goodwood while also managing her own collection Lucy in Disguise.

“I’m helping Wayne out with this first of all and then I’m opening up a shop with my sister and a couple of other people and I’m really busy,” she said. “I’m in the office every day, sourcing clothes and getting really excited about my new venture.”

iTunes hits the big 10 Billion

Don’t even get me started on the whole paying for music thing. I think what iTunes does is great, particularly because they make so much money off of it and people are willing to pay $1 or more for songs. I think sometimes putting a money value on something shows people its worth. I hate to relate this back to theology, but only because I had that class today, I was thinking that we take a lot of things for granted. Everything sometimes. Let’s not forget that the music that we listen to comes from hard hard work from our favorite artists. Right? Therefore, slightly justified. And as much as I …support what iTunes and Apple does doesn’t exactly mean that I follow what I support? 😉

Here’s some more facts about mainstream music. We all love that.

The Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling” is the most-downloaded song

Lady Gaga is the artist with the most songs toward the top, with “Poker Face” at #2, “Just Dance” at #6 and “Bad Romance” at #22

All of the top 25 tracks were released in the past five years (Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok” is the newest at #10) except for one: “Don’t Stop Believin’.”

The person who bought the 10 billionth track gets a $10,000 iTunes gift card. [WHOA. 10,000 songs…lucky]

And what was the 10 billionth song downloaded?!

Song of the Day

Ellie Goulding – Sweet Disposition

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRn-tNb8-mA&feature=player_embedded]

I really like this song. It’s one of my favorites despite it’s over hypeness right now. Seriously I hate mainstream music. A lot. If you didn’t know, the original band that performs this song is The Temper Trap. You’ve probably heard this song in that one car commercial, that one episode of Greek (season finale of last year) and 500 Days of Summer. Twice.

Also Ellie has a very pretty voice, I know some people don’t like the soft whispery types, but I LOVE it.

Kthanks

Let’s Bake Cookies!

On Capitol Hill, we are lucky to have both a cupcake and an ice cream shop. You would think that would be enough, but where’s my cookie shop? Do those exist? Do they exist in Seattle?

Anyways, Williams Sonoma just came up with this masterpiece. With their new cookie cutters, you are able to leave little message imprints into your cookies. Say what you feel – whether it is a love or a hate message the end result is positive. You get a cookie!

Can’t really hate on that can you?

Couturious Launch

After watching the movie Clueless at age six, all I wanted was to have what Cher had. I wanted that closet. You know the one I’m talking about. The closest that would magically bring her the pieces to make her ideal outfit with the click of a button off her computer. It was the greatest invention I had ever seen. Tomorrow Couturious.com will be brought to the masses and it is basically the next best thing.

With Couturious, you will be able to pick items and put them together on your very own model. After some toying around, if you have found the perfect outfit, you can purchase all of those items so that you yourself can wear the masterpiece. Sounds easy enough. So far you can have your pick of Charlotte Ronson, Alice + Olivia, Cynthia Rowley, Tibi, Tory Burch, and Yigal Azrouël who have decided to let you choose from their Spring 2010 collection. As the website expands, you can expect the list of designers to grow as well.

Chat Roulette

(Look Ashton does it too!)

Good evening everyone!! I was recently taking some time off from my computer lately so that’s why posts have been scarce, but I’m back! Fashion posts… still coming don’t you worry haha

Tonight, I was with my friends when we decided to test out Chat Roulette. I’ve been hearing lots of stories on it recently, but didn’t really get all the hype. It basically is a website where you hook up your web cam and you click a button and at random you will be given a person to video chat with. You can either continue talking to them or click “Next.” I know, so powerful right?

After nearly fifteen minutes of Chat Roulette, we met a couple from Portland State University, a man in a mask, creepy older men, and definitely things that you should not be seeing from a stranger over a web cam. My overall thoughts? I don’t think I will have the urge to ever do this again. I understand why people may find this entertaining, but it can also be dangerous and I do not think that people under the age of 18 should be using it especially with the content that is being streamed over the internet through this. Ultimately, I do not think this is a good idea and I can see a lot more bad than good coming from this type of activity. Remember when parents told their kids to never chat w/ strangers online? Video chat kind of ups the stakes a bit.
