Let’s go to College

I have an unhealthy addiction to Ocean Spary’s Strawberry Kiwi Juice Cocktail. I’ve been drinking one 15.2 fl oz bottle a day.

Alright, let’s get started.

When I first applied to colleges, I hated it. The only good thing about applying to colleges is getting back acceptance letters. In the words of my dear friend Veronica, “Let’s be real.” It’s a total confidence booster and then you realize all that time slaving away at your essays, personal information, and deposit were paid off. Actually, looking back on it, that process was long and hard. One of my favorite (and best) teachers in high school said he would only write about 15 letters of recommendation. In order to get a spot, you had to fight for it. He took the first 15 students who would line up on the ramp of his classroom in the morning. What time did I get there at? I can’t even remember…class started at 7:10, pretty sure I was there at 4:40 and I woke up around 3:30. But I got a spot, and that’s all that matters right? I was like fourth.

That story has nothing to do with what I’m posting about, but I just wanted to share it. Anyways, colleges these days will now accept your optional essay in video form. Above, a girl sends in her “essay,” which includes dancing about math to Tufts University. I don’t really get it. Didn’t we learn that stuff in junior high? Tufts isn’t the only college accepting these though. This list also includes St. Mary’s College of Maryland, William and Mary, and George Mason.

If you had the chance to go back and make a video essay, would you? I don’t think I would. I like that all I have to prove myself with is all in writing. We still live in a world (and always will) that tends to judge based off of looks. I think I’ll pass.
