Choices Drifting By Me Everywhere

“If you think about it, your favorite memories, the most important moments in your life… were you alone? Life’s better with company.” – Ryan Bingham

If you haven’t seen the movie Up in the Air, you should. It is one of my favorite movies and luckily I was able to catch the last third of it tonight. This may or may not be the most contradictory post I have ever written, but I promise that there is a purpose and hopefully it will all come together in the end. I believe in that quote above from the movie. It’s true. It’s great and powerful. I also value independence, thoughts to myself, and silence. Good company is very important and while it brings happiness I don’t believe that you can experience true happiness until you have experienced it alone. I sort of believe that you also can’t love others until you love yourself.

All week, I’ve been walking around this school wondering if I am the person I wanted to become. After looking back on everything I’ve done, I asked myself if I was happy or if I was just happy because of what these opportunities have given me? The necessary knowledge, experience, family, joy, laughter, dedication, commitment. Of course, I’m happy for all of these things. I also realize that these came at a price. It was at the expense of loneliness and no longer being able to always relate with everyone I have met.

Another thing I realized was that college is just like another high school. In high school you have your party friends and you have your best friends. In college, I want friends that can be both. I’d rather have my party friends be my best friends. I will keep track of how many drinks you’ve had, make sure you get home safely, and will keep skeezy boys away from you. I will also know your life and you will know mine.

Song of the Day

Lights – Second Go

New song by Lights! It’s an okay song, but I think I’m in love with this video more! Typically, I am someone that prefers to stay clean. I’ll never get a tattoo because I don’t want ink on me. I’ll feel dirty. I never liked playing in the mud or dirt or getting messy as a kid. However, I do not mind paint for a day. This just looks like so much fun. Remember that one scene in Miss Congeniality where they are at an evening dance party and playing drums that splatter paint all over them? Is there a place like that in Seattle?

American Apparel in Deep Water

According to a recent report, American Apparel is currently $91 million in debt. The popular retailer has undergone some operating losses, which is leading people to believe that this may very well be the end of the hipster culture. They recently released a statement saying, “There can be no assurance that if either or both of these events [restructuring deals] were to take place, that the company would be able to obtain the additional sources of liquidity required to continue operations.”

My take: I used to love shopping at American Apparel because every piece I have ever brought from them was well-made and pretty comfortable. While half their clothing is wearable and the other half not so much, there’s no denying that they produce some of the softest tees and best sweatshirts. Don’t deny it. We ALL have one. However, I’ve been wondering sometime about their prices. Is it really worth it? Everything I’ve ever bought I have seen as an investment piece, but even I can admit that when I hand over my dinero I feel a slight bit of guilt.

Seattle International Film Festival

Not only is Seattle known for its music, they are also home to the Seattle International Film Festival, otherwise known as SIFF! Today marks Day 2 of the festival and it will run until June 13. I’ve never actually been to this festival, but I hope that I’ll get a chance to this year at some point. My friend just happens to intern for them and has been filling me in on some of the inside scoop. This year SIFF is paying tribute to Edward Norton which means… he’s probably going to be there. Edward freakin’ Norton!

The above screen shot is from Jenna Fischer’s new movie “A Little Help” playing during this year’s festival.
