Decade

Last week, the wonderful publishers over at Phaidon sent me over their new photography book Decade edited by Eamonn McCabe. I was pretty excited about receiving it because although I have lived two decades, this was the first decade that I started to care about in regards to news, culture, politics, technology etc. Decade covers all of that. The book captures every notable moment between 2000 and 2010 and includes 500 captivating photographs.

When I received the book, I was surprised at how thick it was! It will cover at least a quarter of my coffee table, but it will definitely be the first book that grabs the attention of my friends. The photographs from the book were compiled from sources all over the world, which means that the book has covered all of their bases. The range of emotions tied to the photos can be found at complete opposite ends of the spectrum. For example, on page 39, you’ll find a photograph of Britney Spears performing in Philadelphia during her “Oops!…I Did It Again” tour on July 5, 2000, while  page 41 will show a photograph of the fire that consumed the Bitterroot National Forest near Sula, Montana on August 6, 2000.

“Modern history is remembered by single images, and split seconds within historic moments become icons for how future generations will remember that time. Historians and journalists record the facts, but photographers convey the story in a way words cannot…Set in chronological order, DECADE is an emotional journey, recounting extraordinary human achievements alongside utter devastation.”

The book is out now! Take a look back on your last decade before the new year hits.
