Trees Get Undressed

Ow Ow! The trees are getting all sorts of scandalous in this new project series Trees in Lingerie by Yevgeny Dobrovinsky. Call it immaturity, but I couldn’t help my giggles when I peeped this shoot. How did Dobrovinsky manage to pull the panties over these trees?!

Boyfriend Shirt Turned Girlfriend Skirt

I could have sworn that I saw Ashley donning a shirt turned skirt on this week’s latest episode of Greek. This is a look that I have been wanting to try for some time now, but unfortunately, I don’t have the perfect boyfriend shirt just yet. In a new how to: by Doornob, they are teaching their readers how to make this look stylish instead of sloppy in the most effortless way possible.

Think you can pull off the trend? Try it now.

Bryant Gumbel and Katie Couric Try to Make Sense of the Internet…in 1994

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nTPX4JW_Ts&feature=player_embedded]

It’s hard to imagine that we couldn’t fully understand the internet back in 1994. It was just 17 years ago, but yet the internet feels like it has been a part of our lives forever. What did people do in 1994?!

How exactly would YOU explain the internet to someone. My response would probably be to just “Google” it. Simple as that.

Carrie’s Sex in the City closet becomes dream come true for one lucky woman

I still remember the day when Samantha and I watched the Sex in the City movie for my first time like it was yesterday. It was the scene that took my breath away – when Big presented Carrie with the marvelous walk-in-closet. This is pretty much every girl’s dream! How could you ever turn down a closet as large as a bedroom. You can’t, really.

One husband loved his wife so much that he hired the set designers for the actual Sex in the City movie to build a replica of that closet for his own wife out of their spare bedroom. The 400 sq-foot closet cost the unnamed retired businessman $175,000. How does the closet match up to the one featured in the movie? Apparently, this one is bigger than Carrie’s!

J. Crew: About a Shoe

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vqY_TW2iCg]

“Do you know where the clothes you are wearing came from?” Last week, my professor had asked our class that question and without even skipping a beat I answered, “China.” Technically, it came from J. Crew’s University Village location though.

I must have looked pretty foolish because he then proceeded to ask me if I knew where the factory was located, how many people had worked on the shirt, and what the conditions were of the workers. I shut up. I didn’t know any of those answers. How many of us actually do? None of us stop to think about how our clothes were created because we take these pieces for granted once we have them in our hands or on our bodies. They are just everyday staples to us.

I guess this is why I can appreciate J. Crew’s new mini-documentary series that informs their wearers where and how their clothing and accessories came to be. In “About a Shoe,” creative director and president Jenna Lyons along with VP of women’s design Marissa Webb venture to Italy to witness their sketch transform into a physical shoe. The video does a great job at showing the immense amount of work that goes into producing just one piece of their collection as well as how many hands are involved in the project. For anyone interested in learning about fashion design without an ounce of knowledge in the subject, this might be a great place to start.

Dark Chocolate as a Snack

Instead of detailing a recipe for the readers of the Food Network, the website has suggested “Dark Chocolate as a Snack.”

First it was Rachael Ray’s microwavable late night bacon. Then we witnessed Paula Deen’s english peas, and now Food Network has just gotten downright lazy. It is sans recipe and without steps. Why even bother making a page for this at all?

They are really going to have to do better than that because the masses are talking back (as always) and bringing in their sarcastic wit. To read the comments, click here.

Skins Series 5: Franky Review

Since it had been some time since I have watched the UK series of Skins, I had almost forgotten what it was that I loved about the series. When watching MTV’s version, I started to believe that the underlying concepts were still there, and that it still exuded the same raw passion as its original counter part in the UK.

This past Thursday, UK Skins Series 5 premiered their first episode “Franky” about an androgynous girl named Franky who was trying to fit in at her new school after a rough ordeal at her last one for being tormented because as a girl she felt more comfortable dressing more masculine. Although I enjoyed the MTV’s episode “Tea” this past week, I have come to the realization that it lacks something that the UK has always done. The UK series is effortless. Everything flows so well whereas the MTV version feels like it is stuck on this structured route. Is it because they are recreating the first series of the original Skins? Probably. I love the way that the UK series is shot. It is mesmerizing and beautiful and I am so glad that I have found a way to continue watching it through the season.

Anyone else catch the episode?
