If You Watch It Backwards

If you watch them backwards, graffiti artists are a bunch of teenagers who sneak around at night and secretly clean up the city.

Today’s site of the day is “If You Watch It Backwards” because it turns situations into complete opposites. Well, that’s the point isn’t it? It is also highly entertaining. Guaranteed LOL’s.

Check it out here.

The Life Span of a Blog

Last night, I stayed up late trying to finish my most recent “A Collection” post. I had gone three months without still finishing it and the reason for that was because I was just far too busy this past winter quarter. I figured that I would be able to get through my blog roll of what has to be 100 blogs (I haven’t counted just yet) over spring break, but I wasn’t even able to update that much. “A Collection” was important for me to finish because I had had a special request from a dear friend who looks forward to the post and because I knew that once school started again, I would probably never have the chance to finish. Six months worth of Tumblr backup is not ideal.

It’s cute because my friends have adopted Yow Yow! as a nickname for me and when I have real life conversations with people, there will often times be a small reference made to a direct sentence that I have written. Recently, I have been asking myself the question of “How long can I do this for?” Yow Yow! is two years old, but I would imagine that at some point I will have to stop. Yow Yow! is and will always be a part of my life, but it’s not my whole life. I’m a student, I work, and I have a whole life apart from this.

I felt compelled to address this issue because for awhile, there was a lull period where I could not update for a week and a half and then when it came back to updating again, no post felt right enough. I felt extremely limited in the material I could write about because I no longer knew what would be interesting to readers and that’s something I still struggle with.

Yesterday, 14-year old blogger Tavi Gevinson (Style Rookie) reflected back on her moments within the fashion industry such as meeting John Galliano for the first time and sitting next to Anna Wintour at Fashion Week. She also announced that she would be shifting her focus from fashion to other endeavors as well, which is completely normal because I think we can all sort of relate to a shift in interest in the period between middle school and high school. Like Tavi, I feel like I am at that stage in my life as I draw closer to the end of my college career and closer to the real world. While blogging is still an interest of mine, there are other outlets that I would like to pursue and that is something that will become more apparent in the next few weeks even on the blog. I still love to blog because I also feel that it keeps me sane, but please don’t be expecting 15 posts a day because that is no longer realistic for me.

Today is the first day of school so I would like to wish all of my happy seniors a wonderful last first day of school and to my working ones a Monday that doesn’t suck.

Nomz: Chicken and Broccoli Stir-Fry

I just realized that my last Nomz: post was all the way back in late September. It’s cool – I eat during the school year, but I don’t always have time to make more elaborate meals because of my schedule. Luckily, since I am still on spring break, I had the chance to try out some recipes that I wouldn’t normally get to experiment with during the school week. A couple months ago, I was sent the $5 Dinner Mom – Breakfast and Lunch Cookbook by Erin Chase from St. Martin’s Press, which I used to help me make my dinner tonight.

The book is paperback and includes simple recipes perfect for breakfast, lunch, and snacking! The ingredients for each recipe are also broken down by price, which is ideal for a college student.

And, as always with Erin, the recipes are easy and family-friendly:

•    Chocolate Chip Raspberry Pancakes
•     Bacon and Egg Quesadillas
•     Vanilla Almond French Toast
•     Overnight Honey Nut Granola
•     Swiss Tuna Melts
•     Lasagna Roll-ups
•     Chuckwagon Chili

Feel free to check out her website here for more recipes!

Pura Vida

A few weeks ago, one of my friends gave me a bracelet by Pura Vida. She had recently become a brand rep for them and after seeing one of her bracelets, I knew that I had to have one for myself so I picked out one that included various shades of purple, pink, black, and gray. The bracelets are hand-made in Costa Rica and the string that is used to make the bracelet doesn’t get all nasty when it gets wet because they are coated in wax.

The story behind how the bracelets are created is amazing and there is no way that I could do it justice by giving it here so if you are interested, feel free to check out Pura Vida’s website and snag a bracelet for yourself.

A portion of each bracelet sold goes directly to Surfrider Foundation, which is a grassroots foundation that supports the clean up of beaches and oceans all over the world.

LCD Soundsystem’s Last Show will be streaming live

On April 2nd, Pitchfork will be live streaming LCD Soundsystem’s last show ever from Madison Square Garden. Since this is the grand finale and many of their fans will not be present, Pitchfork is giving everyone the opportunity to watch the show that is about to go down in music history.

The stream will only be shown once and as promised by the group, will last three hours long and include special guests performances!

Well, I guess I know what I will be doing Saturday night now.
