Brooks Brothers Shows Love for the Preps

When I was an elementary school child, my brother told me that if I wanted to be cool, I needed to be “preppy.” Not really knowing what that actually meant back then, he decided to urge my mother to get my first purple sweater vest at age nine. It was all downhill from there. I graduated from that sweater vest and moved on to Abercrombie and Fitch. It makes me cringe to actually admit that when I’d really like to replace that F with a B. Let’s be real – those scandals that we’ve been reading in the papers for the last few years couldn’t have all been false allegations. Just sayin’

The term prep, however, actually stems from those fancy private colleges on the East…not sweater vests. Oh it all makes sense now! Often times it’s the designers that determine the definition of prep, not the clothing items themselves. Brooks Brothers has decided to produce a new line specifically for 15 private universities with the preppiest students. The line will then be sold in bookstores, online, and nationwide retailers.

Can you guess which universities have accumulated the preppiest bunch?

1. Harvard
2. Princeton
3. Stanford
4. Cornell
5. Georgetown
6. Vanderbilt
7. Boston College
8. Notre Dame
9. The U.S. Naval Academy
10. Auburn
11. University of Virginia
12. New York University
13. Ohio State University
14. Universities of Alabama
15. University of Georgia

A Beautiful Bike Rack

Yep, this would make me want to ride a bike. This bike rack in the form of a comb was designed by Knowhow Shop LA and belongs to the locals of Roanoke, Virginia. This has got to be one of the prettiest installations I’ve ever seen. I wish Seattle had one just like it. Would you believe that this rack weighs 400lbs?!

New York Magazine Conducts An Experiment

I’m not sure if I would ever let my own friends set me up with a date much less let writers from New York Magazine pair me up with some rando in a bar. However, some adventure seekers were down with that idea. The magazine played matchmaker as they handpicked ten people from two different bars, paired them up, recorded their conversations, and checked in with the participants one week later.

The results were amusing – but what else can you expect in a city full of characters?

Would you ever volunteer to be a part of something like this?

Music Spotlight: Oh Land

I caved in. I watched Teen Wolf last night on MTV and while I was watching, they just happened to feature one of my new favorite bands, Oh Land. While we’re on the honesty trail though, I guess I should admit that I’ve actually been watching Teen Wolf for a few weeks now…yeah. Anyways, Oh Land’s Nanna Øland Fabricius has a voice that grabs ahold of your attention and lures you in until you’ve gone through the whole album. We’ve all listened to CD’s in the past that we have decided in the end are made up of similar songs, but Oh Land’s self-titled album is nowhere near that. The first song that I listened to off the album initially after getting it was “Lean” and that song is entirely opposite of my favorite “White Nights,” and electronic tune “Voodoo.” Fabricius has the ability to produce songs that are eerie, sassy, and whimsical. That doesn’t mean that she is inconsistent, it simply means that the girl has range. I made Oh Land’sSon of a Gun” the Song of the Day back in late Dec of 2010 and nearly seven months later, Fabricius is still dominating. She’s not going anywhere anytime soon so you might as well jump on the bandwagon now.

Favorite songs:

  • Lean
  • Son of a Gun
  • White Nights
  • Human
  • Voodoo
  • Break the Chain
  • Perfection
  • Rainbow
  • We Turn It Up
  • Wolf And I

Oh yeah the whole album is great.

People of Fremont

Photographer Adam Sheppard recently took portraits of the locals in one of my favorite Seattle neighborhoods, Fremont, for his photo series “People of Fremont.” I was surprised to find that I actually recognized four people in these snapshots! The people featured are of all ages and races, but it amazes me to this day how much personality you can feel from just one photograph. To view the rest, click here.

If Seattle University were like Laguna Beach…

[La Spiga]

then 12 Ave’s La Spiga would totally be Laguna Beach’s Pasta Pomodoro ie) the restaurant that every single one of them ate at, but more frequently Kristin and Ste-PHENNNNN.

Truth: I spent all day looking for a screen cap of the both of them eating at this place, but couldn’t find it. This is the best I can do, but you can see for yourself in the first ep. of Laguna Beach.
