American Juggalo

Bet you never thought you’d see a post about this on Yow Yow. Every year, I get pretty excited when lineups for music festivals are released all over the country. However, I always seem to leave one music festival out. The Gathering of the Juggalos. The event is not something that I would attend nor does it host the type of music that I listen to, yet it is something that I seem to always be curious about. This year, two writers from BuzzFeed ventured off to the Gathering to document in photos and video the experience that they were having and posting throughout the four days of the event. I followed it out of curiosity. The Gathering is something that I know absolutely nothing about, but it terrifies me. I’m not sure I could even go to the festival even if I were paid because it is completely at the opposite end of the spectrum for me.

As I was doing my news reading for the day, I came across a post for American Juggalo – The Documentary. I lingered for a little bit. If I watch it…I might get nightmares. If I don’t watch it…well then I don’t watch it, but I’ll still be curious. I wanted to watch it. Let’s be real! It’s kind of like the train wreck you can’t turn away from.

The documentary is about 23 minutes long and it is completely NSFW/NSFL – Not safe for work, not safe for LIFE. There is some nudity and there is  excessive swearing. I haven’t exactly decided how I feel about it yet, but I’m glad I watched it. There were parts that made me laugh, that made me scrunch up my face and parts that just made me feel a little sad for the participants. I love documentaries because for just a small period of time, I get to take myself out of my norm and see into the lives of others so different from mine or maybe similar in some ways. Similarity was not the case this time.

Veronica and Tori – I would like to join you for your next documentary please.

Anyways, the documentary directed by Sean Dunn was very well made. I don’t want to post it on my blog because I don’t necessarily agree with everything seen in the documentary, but if you’d like to watch it, you can click here.
