The Academy Awards 2012

[Rooney Mara in Givenchy Haute Couture]

I absolutely love this gown on her. It’s so refreshing to see her not wearing black for once since most of her press outfits and even gowns on the red carpet recently have been black.

*****

I spent most of the day watching the red carpet special for the Academy Awards yesterday as E! decided to start it around one if not sooner. Unfortunately, thirty minutes into the show, I decided to give up on watching it to spend my time with some great company. It’s alright – the red carpet is usually the main priority for me…that was until Ashley sent me a text that said, “We could have easily made tonight a drinking game,” which meant that I was missing a whole lot of highlights from the show.

I suppose I can just read about the rest of the stuff that happened during the show. I did, however, witness Sacha Baron Cohen as the Dictator dump Bisquick all over Ryan Seacrest’s Burberry suit. Just watching him trying to contain his anger over the situation was entertaining enough.

And with that, let’s get into some red carpet looks!

Meryl Streep in Lanvin

Congratulations to Meryl on her win for Best Actress!

Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford.

My mother thought Gwyneth looked overdressed, but there’s no denying that the actress looks fantastic in this dress. It’s just not my pick for her.

Brad Pitt w/ Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace

Oh that pose… all that aside, I actually really like this dress. That cut adds some serious drama to the look.

Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton

When I first saw this gown on the red carpet, I wasn’t a fan, but that’s only because I wasn’t able to see the details like I am now. I love how the peplum enhances the rest of the gown and the coral color.

Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen

The E! hosts had some reservations about this gown at first, but I think it’s absolutely stunning on Jessica.

Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli

If I were in her place, this wouldn’t be my first choice, but it is very Emma. This gown reminds me of some of the other dresses she has worn in the past so I’m not surprised by it.

Viola Davis in custom Vera Wang

Yikes. What happened to her hair? I can’t even focus on the dress without noticing her hair first. It’s kind of a deal breaker.

Octavia Spencer has been bringing Tadashi Shoji to the forefront during this red carpet season and I have loved all of her choices.

Kristen Wiig in J. Mendel

I don’t particularly enjoy her humor, but I like the dress and I like her hair.

Natalie Portman in Christian Dior

The polka dots aren’t doing it for me, but her look in general works well. The hair, makeup, and accessories are what stand out to me the most in this look over the dress.

George Clooney in Armani w/ Stacy Keibler in Marchesa

These two can wear anything they want.

Penélope Cruz, in custom Giorgio Armani

I love this color. It’s also the same color as Kelly Osbourne’s hair currently.

Alexandra Edenborough and Gary Oldman, in Paul Smith.

I don’t know who made this gown, but it is awfully pretty.

Shailene Woodley in Valentino Haute Couture

You can’t see me, but I’m making a face at it. It’s nice, but it’s a gown that is too old for her. I would have loved to see her in something long and strapless.

Tina Fey in Carolina Herrera

Not bad.

Cameron Diaz in Gucci Premiere

This is not the gown I would have imagined her in for this night, but it works. It’s a little too plain for me at the top, but what can you do?

Milla Jovovich in Elie Saab

Gorgeous.

Melissa McCarthy in Marina Rinaldi

Rose Byrne in Vivienne Westwood

I don’t typically like Vivienne Westwood gowns since they don’t match my tastes, but I LOVE this one. That haircut, the fit, the dress – it’s all amazing to me. Rose is one of my best dressed picks for the night.

Billy Crystal in Giorgio Armani

Remember when Anne Hathaway and James Franco hosted last year? Yeah, that was awkward.

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

I don’t usually say this so as to not offend any of my friends, but I have never been a fan of these types of sleeves. I believe it was designed to accentuate arms, but there’s just something about it that doesn’t sit well with me. I wish this gown were just long sleeve and simple.

Sandra Bullock in Marchesa

The lack of shape this gown is giving her is making this look inch closer to worse dressed.

Pharrell Williams in Lanvin

Oh my goodness…

Leslie Mann in Roberto Cavalli

Beautiful blue sequins.

Sacha Baron Cohen as the Dictator

Kelly Ripa in Carolina Herrera

It’s a nice look for her.

Anna Faris in Diane von Furstenberg

Um wut?

Busy Phillips in Dolce & Gabbana

Judy Greer in Monique Lhuillier

Merrrrr

Giuliana Rancic in Tony Ward

One of my favorites for the night!

Kate Mara in Jack Guisso Couture

I don’t know how I feel about the lone sleeve, but at the same time, I can’t take my eyes off of it! I’m sure if I were wearing this dress myself, I’d probably love it so therefore using my good ‘ol logic, I’m going to say I like this look on Kate Mara.

Sarah Hyland in Alberta Ferretti
