One Way To Celebrate The Oscars

The Oscars are tomorrow and I’m basically on the edge of my seat waiting for the red carpet show to happen just so I can yell out the names of the designers that the celebrities are wearing. It’s basically a game that I play by myself. Veronica and Bree can vouch for me. Nothing beats the satisfaction I get out of being correct though.

If you’re not into making my made up game your game, you can always play the Oscars Drinking Game provided by The Frisky.

ONE DRINK

  • Every time an award winner thanks God.
  • Each time the camera pans to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
  • Each time an award winner says “I didn’t expect to win” and then pulls out a prepared speech.

SHOTGUN AN ENTIRE BEER

  • If “The Help” wins Best Picture.

For the rest of the rules, click here.

Let the fun begin!

Pharrell Williams Keeps Record of Outfits for New York Times

Oscar Hidalgo for The New York Times

Pharrell Williams is probably one of the best-dressed males in the music industry so it’s no surprise that the New York Times asked him to shed some light on his daily outfits for a week. Take a peek at what Pharrell is up to when he is typically working and what he wears while doing it.

THURSDAY, FEB. 16 A very rare day off. Aside from a few conference calls, I spent it at home with my family, so just put on a Gap white V-neck T-shirt, gray sweat pants and my oversized Mickey Mouse yellow slippers.

Whoa…Pharrell wears sweats.

Click here for the week breakdown.

2011 Sunset Junction Festival Cut – Lineup of Bands’ Prices Released

photo cred | Jonathan Leibson

A common misconception that I hear often is that the production behind a music festival is inexpensive. Or maybe people know that it is expensive, but they just don’t know how expensive it actually is. After being involved with aspects of this industry, I no longer have these unrealistic views of trying to reach for something that I can’t have. There is a whole lot of funding that goes into making an event or a music festival like Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza etc. so successful, but many people take that for granted.

When that happens, music festivals die. San Diego’s Street Scene 2009 was one of the best festivals I’ve ever been to and unfortunately, the run of that festival ended that year. Last summer, Los Angeles’ Sunset Junction was denied a permit due to unpaid fees and as a result not only did the festival NOT happen, everyone who was set to be a part of the festival lost their money. This includes the festival’s acts, vendors, and ticket purchasers.

Court records released yesterday just how much these bands were supposed to earn from their performance. Click the cut to be enlightened:

Paper Or Blog Post?

If someone were to ask me as a child what I wanted to be when I grew up, that person would have received a number of answers. After participating in several dance numbers at nine years old, I would have answered this question by launching into my aspirations to be a hip hop dancer. At ten, I literally believed it was written in the stars-pun intended- that I was supposed to be an astronomer after excelling in a one-month interactive lesson plan in which our knowledge of the planets and galaxy had enabled us to discover which “probes” were on certain planets given descriptive clues. Essentially, I was solving puzzles. Back then, I believed that these were the career paths for me because I had passion for the subject and was actively involved in the project. This is a theory that I still believe to be true today not only for myself, but in my management peers as well. The Albers School of Business and Economics has done a phenomenal job of providing their students with challenging courses and ample resources in all majors.  However, in a specialization as broad as management, students often times need a mentor that can guide them, a chance to be proactive in their research on management careers, and an opportunity to have a unique hands-on experience in the field of their interest.

Is this excerpt part of a paper I am currently writing or a blog post with the rest of it underneath the cut?

Make your guesses!

Neumos Introduces New Venue Below

Capitol Hill is a neighborhood filled with secrets. It seems like every few weeks, I’m always learning something new about it. Not too long ago, we learned that Neumos was planning on opening a new music venue…in their basement! Hello – I didn’t even know they had a basement, let alone enough room to throw shows down there.

Surprisingly, creating a new music venue isn’t an easy process. You need to raise the funds to install the required equipment, you need to get permission from local councils, you need to deal with any noise complaints that may occur, you need to find music software that’s perfect for music venue owners (Click here to discover it), the list goes on. So, whenever one opens, I’m always appreciative of the effort that’s been put in to make it a reality.

The name for the new place is Barboza, which has prompted me to call the venue Neumos’ little brother. However, when I say the name aloud, all I can envision is some viking character for some reason. Barboza will open April 24th and the booker for the venue has already been hard at work securing shows currently being promoted.

I’ll never turn down another venue spot. I can’t wait for this place to open.

Celebrity Neighbors in New York City

Rentenna did some serious work in creating this map detailing where some of your favorite celebrities are living in New York City. I knew that city was a popular spot for celebrities to reside in, but geez I didn’t know they ALL lived there and right next to each other too.
