In Things I Learned Today…

I will probably at my happiest when I am at the age of 33.

I’ve clearly been doing something right by cramming right before I go to bed the night before a final/presentation because studies show that sleep helps you retain more information. [Source]

Being a little drunk and sleepy can actually make you more creative. [Source]

Watching sad films can actually make us happier. Funny how that works. [Source]

Review: Regent Bakery & Cafe

It wouldn’t be a birthday celebration unless I celebrated twice. I had a ball in San Francisco, but of course nothing beats having a birthday in Seattle with some of my friends from school. Yesterday my dear friend Stephanie and I treated ourselves to a Chinese feast at Regent Cafe & Bakery – a new eatery that just opened up on 14th and Pine. Now, we thought our appetites were large yesterday afternoon, but clearly not enough to put away the four dishes that we ordered.

Pictured are:

  • BBQ Pork Chow Mein
  • Pork Chow Mein
  • Honey Walnut Prawns

Needless to say, Steph and I quickly fell into a heavy food coma. If we weren’t on a time crunch, I’m sure the both of us could have sat there forever lounging and taking our time with our dishes. My usual qualm with Chinese food is that it can sometimes be too greasy or oily, but not this time. The chow mein was littered with fresh vegetables and the noodles (even eaten as leftovers today) are still as fresh as they were yesterday. Also, I’d like to extend a thank you to Regent for bringing out a complimentary cream puff from their bakery selection with a lit candle! You guys are wonderful and I’ll most likely be back next week.

DP/30

It isn’t difficult for me to just get sucked into an interview. They’re typically not very long, but I feel like for just a brief moment, celebrities are able to let down their walls and for once – we see them in a setting that doesn’t put them in acting mode. Above is an interview with the lovely and talented Chloe Moretz with DP/30 and below Mila Kunis.

Seriously cool girls – but this leads me into my next segment!

For some time now, I have been interested in bringing back interviews to Yow Yow! and now I’ve got a reason to. I am excited to announce that  Yow Yow! will be bringing back interviews to the blog in a new series featuring strong women making a difference and who are prominent across the web.

H&M’s “& Other Stories”

The rumors that H&M is launching a new higher priced chain are true! However, the retailer would like it to be known that this is not a luxury brand. H&M has revealed that the name of their new store will be called “& Other Stories.” Fans of the retailer can expect this new store to have a higher quality level and higher price point.

How does everyone feel about this name? It is definitely a little bit more complex than the standard two letter connected by an “&,” but it’s unique enough to be remembered. I think I’m more concerned about butchering the name since it is a little bit awkward to say.

Ben Boutwell and Steven Alan shot this short film in Hawaii using frames and it’s pretty silly.

Esther Stocker’s Geometric Rooms

Italian installation artist Esther Stocker has created some new geometric environments for people to explore and wander through. Apparently, each piece was constructed to follow a very specific equation that includes linear patterns and planes enabling a transformation of a physical pace.
