Fashion Icon: Waldo

Not only was Waldo one of my favorite characters as a kid, he was also an underrated fashion icon. Waldo rocked the classic denim, the striped shirt, and the hipster glasses before they were even deemed hipster. As for the denim and the stripes? Well, everyone is still wearing them so that pretty much says it all. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Waldo, one of my favorite brands, Warby Parker, created a pair of glasses so that we can all emulate the stylish character. Check out the details here.

“Thrilled Ann Romney says ModFam is her favorite show. We’ll offer her the role of officiant at Mitch & Cam’s wedding. As soon as it’s legal.”

Men + Food

I came across two posts today regarding men and their food and rather than making two separate posts, (I’m into efficiency) I decided to combine them into one.

First off, I got both of these inspiration pieces from my favorite MAN blog Cool Material. It’s mostly for men slash just for men actually, but sometimes I think like a dude and can appreciate the things they love as well.

I know I recently took a hiatus from being in the kitchen, but I’m about to start up that work/life balance thing again and I’m going to have to find a way to make meals somehow for myself and for my guests. Also, one word – leftovers. Secondly, this book is called Mad Hungry. That’s hilarious. I want it.

I don’t understand. Why does this all have to be for guys? I would EAT this!

Internet Censored At What Price

Google goes to great lengths to protect all of us from inappropriate content on the web. I don’t know about all of you, but I am grateful that I don’t have to hold my breath when making a search on Google or YouTube for fear that I might come across something that will give me nightmares forever. Believe it or not, there is highly inappropriate content being spread across the web at all times including fetishes, intense violence or death and pornography, don’t get me wrong I understand why there are adult porn sites like www.hdpornvideo.xxx, however, it’s the child pornography sites that need to be stopped. Why these things exist is beyond me, but I’m glad I don’t have to see it.

In order to make sure that we don’t accidentally stumble across these things, Google hires contractors to monitor the web content, sorting the perfectly fine stuff such as Marni Moore on Babestation from the deeply unsavory. Hooray. The bummer about this is that even though these contractors are doing a job that no one wants, Google refuses to hire them on as full-time employees and fails to provide them with the benefits needed to help support them when they are faced with psychological issues stemming from this position.

I found this interview with one former Google contractor interesting because even in this day and age, there is still a job for everything. There are glamorous jobs that everyone wants, but there are also jobs that no one wants, but still have to get done and it is these people that are constantly overlooked. To all of you, thank you for keeping us safe and thank you for shielding us from the dark side of human nature that exists.

Fashion’s Night Out: Seattle

Earlier this week, I met with the Downtown Seattle Association and Seattle Met Magazine to discuss next week’s big Fashion’s Night Out event on Thursday, September 6th! Even though I’ve been reading about FNO since the event began back in 2009, this is the first time that I have ever gotten a first look at it or rather a behind-the-scenes look.

In previous years, Seattle and Bellevue retailers would host their own in-store events, but this year, the Downtown Seattle Association, Seattle Met Magazine, and Pacific Place are trying to create a more cohesive experience. In addition to in-store events, there will also be a spectacular runway show featuring all of this fall’s hottest trends held in the Pacific Place Atrium. The Downtown Seattle Rocks the Runway event will be from 5:30pm-9pm and feature a photo booth provided by Seattle Met Magazine and cocktails served in the lounges set for ticket holders to the show.

There will be 70 looks provided from downtown Seattle retailers including: Nordstrom, Macy’s, Mario’s, Barneys New York, Alhambra,  True Religion Brand Jeans, and many more with hair styled by 7 Salon and makeup by Gene Juarez Salons.

Tickets are going quick, but if you still want to snag yours, click here. The proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to O Wines Opportunity For Success Scholarship Program to help provide young women with college scholarships. It’s a great cause that I think we can all try and get behind through supporting fashion too!

Stay tuned to Yow Yow for more Fashion’s Night Out themed posts including fall trends, events happening that can’t be missed, and the new scavenger hunt!

Additionally: I am giving away a Pacific Place $50 gift card!

Whether you’ll be using it at Fashion’s Night Out or for another occasion, you don’t want to miss out! Pacific Place is home to some of my favorite retailers including J. Crew, Kate Spade, BCBG Max Azria, Club Monaco, and many more.

To enter, leave a comment here and tell me what item you’ll be splurging on for this fall! If you’ve got a picture of the item you’re talking about, send me a link!

Congratulations to Bethany!
