Garance Doré The Illustrator

Garance is a woman of many talents. She’s a famous street style photographer, but behind the lense, Garance harbors another artful skill. Today the photographer and fashion blogger released a series of posters from her early career in her new online shop. These would look fantastic framed, on their own, or even in a collage. Prints are for sale for $40 and can be found here

In Vogue: The Editor’s Eye

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AC-6eXNmw3Q]

I could not be more excited about this new HBO documentary on the HBIC – the editors of Vogue! The September Issue is one of my favorite movies of all time and I still remember just how powerful it was to learn about the Vogue culture and step into Anna Wintour’s world for 90 minutes. If you haven’t seen it, it is incredible. The last I checked two years ago, it was on Netflix. It probably isn’t there anymore, but if it is – hi – watch it! I can’t promise you that it will be as life changing for you as it was for me, but there are other things that can be appreciated from this R.J. Cutler documentary – like the art and the creation and everything you didn’t know about this industry whether it is in magazines or fashion.

The documentary airs December 6th on HBO. Marking my calendar now.

Where To Launch A Business

I stumbled across an interesting article yesterday while at work titled “20 Best Places in the World to Launch a Business” and Silicon Valley was at the top of the list – no surprise there! Home base to Facebook, Google, and Apple it isn’t news to anyone that the area is full of geniuses and entrepreneurs.

To check out the full list click here.

This post is also another excuse for me to confess that  I am in likes with Silicon Valley Start-Ups. I’m sure it may not be the most accurate rendition of the area considering all the drama that is to be had in the show, but I still love it. Bravo shows…they are my weakness.

Song of the Day

Local Natives – Breakers

This song has already been used as a Song of the Day, but the music video for the single was just released and I figured it deserved to have a return. The band is making their comeback again in 2013 with the release of their album Hummingbirds on January 29, 2013. It will be the followup to their first album Gorilla Manor back in 2009.
It’s about time, boys. We’ve been waiting for you.

Razrs

photo cred | Cool Material

Before the iPhone, there was another model that everyone just had to have: the Razr. And where do all good phones go to die? Ebay of course – though I’m not sure why anyone would want to purchase the Razr these days – so outdated.

Kyle Williams found a creative way to bring these phones back to life. After purchasing 44 Razrs off the website, he peeled apart the layers to find old text messages, sexts (yes, even THOSE existed back then too,) pictures, and videos. The material was compiled and published in his new book Razrs.

Note to self? Delete all the memory and data started on my crackberry when I decide to replace it.

Real World Cast Members Then And Now: A Guide

So what is life like after The Real World? After a whole season of partying, scandals, hook-ups and just being real, it’s hard to believe that anyone can really live normally without the cameras for awhile. But it happens. The weirdness you had in your life and all the mistakes you made documented in a television series will be forgotten…when a new season comes out and it is 10x more racy than your season!

Every time I watch new seasons of The Real World, I was look back and reminisce on how some of my favorite characters are doing. The series started back in the early 90’s and those cast members are OLD now. Old enough to have families anyways! That’s old. And I’m curious about what they’re doing these days just like the rest of the world. Luckily Daily News has provided me with a solid guide.

American Hipster

Created by three Seattle natives, American Hipster is a web series that tells the story of how hipsters are living in this nation in the most hipster cities including (hi. home.) Seattle, Philly, San Francisco, New York and several others. Each episode focuses on a different aspect of the hipster culture and the ones on Seattle could not speak more truly about this wonderful city.

I went to a private school that just happened to be in a very hipster neighborhood so, over the last four years, I heard some backlash naturally. Let me just tell you that I’ve never loved a city more. I’ve never enjoyed living in a neighborhood more than I did in this one. The neighborhood didn’t help me figure out what my passions were. I did that back in high school bro. This neighborhood helped my passions explode – in everything that I did, all over the sidewalks, in every club and event that I participated in, and most definitely on Yow Yow! If you are starting on your journey to a private school (no matter your age) and you’ve checked out things like this Schoolguide’s blog post on private schools, as well as researched the neighborhood it’s going to be in, then you are certainly going to be going on a journey of self-discovery like I was. It just takes some getting used to. No matter what anyone says, a private school is not just for posh and well-off people, there are multiple positives to attending one.

Watching former One Reel employee Kayte Olsufka invite viewers into her Bumbershoot experience was tough. After all, that was the career that I always wanted for myself. It is the best reflection of what Bumbershoot means to me though and what it means to the attendees that continue to show up to the music and arts festival year after year. My favorite segments are below:
