New Year’s Resolution 2013

Every year, nearly every blog I read writes a post about their New Year’s resolution. I forgot about that until now because I wasn’t here to read all of those posts on New Year’s Eve. My resolution, however, came a few days before I left for my trip though and I didn’t want to forget it. This year’s New Year’s Resolution for both myself and Yow Yow! is to be more assertive.

I’m not trying to go to the gym everyday (let’s be real,) but I will eat healthier.

I’m not going to be able to save more money than usual (because I can’t, I have student loans)

But what I can do for myself is speak up. I can be a little less quiet and actually ask for what I want and get what I think I deserve.

Before I left for my trip, I visited a well known salon and spa here in the Washington area. It’s one that I’ve been going to for years. This time I visited a different location than usual and on this visit they had checked me in and forgot about me and to make matters worse, the person who I had my appointment with kept taking in her regular clients before me. Because of this, they were 35 minutes late on taking me in for an appointment that takes less than five minutes to complete. Needless to say, I was a little furious so I took it to Twitter and within an hour had received a tweet, email, and a phone call from this salon with an apology and a complimentary appointment.

What I learned from this experience is that brands and companies WANT to know when they are not delivering the service that they promise. Also, when bloggers voice their negative opinions, it doesn’t really make them look good either. Since I’ve been a regular, I will most likely be returning back to the salon just not to this location and definitely not with the person I made my appointment with. Had I maybe spoken up sooner, I’m sure I would’ve been taken back into my appointment earlier, but that’s not exactly my responsibility. Speaking up at all was a proud moment and it gave me the motivation that I needed to take that into 2013 with me.
