Cycles of Life

Adorable. Earlier this week someone asked me if I wanted to go on a bike ride and while I wasn’t interested at the time or with that person, it’s actually an idea that I am warming up to…solo. I haven’t gotten on a bike since I was a kid and one time I tried again at Seattle University and that was just a little bit of a disaster.

Hygge & West

In each of the places I have lived, I have never gone through the experience of painting my room. For as long as I have known white walls have been my thing and while the idea seems appealing in my next home, I’m also making the shift to a printed wallpaper like this one from Hygge & West! Cute, right? I’m not saying I would wallpaper the entire place, but one wall in one room would be just enough to make a statement. Check out some of their options here.

We Think Alone

My friend Sam recently sent me a website that caught my eye for a project that begins on July 1st. I’m not sure what it’s about, but it looked interesting and I liked the way it looked when I typed in my email address to receive updates from the website.

I trust Sam so I don’t feel like I should have any doubts in the direction she led me in with this website. Check it out here.

Optical Illusion House Makes A Home in London

all photo cred | Colossal

A new optical illusion installation can be found in London! Designed by Argentine artist Leandro Erlich, visitors have been able to play around with the new attraction and making it look like they can defy gravity by walking up a house. The photographs are made possible through a giant mirror reflecting off of a print of a Victorian house.

The installation opened yesterday and is free to all visitors until August 4th. For more photos, click here.

Capitol Hill Introduces Parklet

photo cred | City of San Francisco via Capitol Hill Seattle

This coming August, our lovely neighborhood of Capitol Hill will introduce their first parklet! I have been thrilled about this idea ever since I read about it popping up in San Francisco and think it would be a great addition to Seattle. No exact location has been revealed just yet, but the Capitol Hill Seattle blog can confirm that three locations for the pilot program will include E Olive Way, Belltown and Chinatown/ID.

The mini-park is part of a new initiative by the city to create small privately funded open spaces in the midst of Seattle’s busy streets…The basic idea is a business will sponsor a parklet by asking the city for permission to change a right-of-way for a parking space (or other small public space) in front of its business to an open public space. While they can’t offer service in the space and turn it into a de facto extension of a cafe or restaurant, businesses pay for everything, including upkeep.

If all goes well this summer, the parklets will return in 2014.

Starting tomorrow, the Seattle Art Museum will be premiering their new exhibit showcasing 30 years in Japanese fashion. The exhibition will include 80 pieces of gowns and garments and have made it all the way to Seattle from the Kyoto Costume Institute. I am so excited to view this exhibit in person! Anyone else planning on making the trip?

Love Is Love

kristendax

For two years, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have been engaged waiting to get married and holding off until  gay marriage was legal and all of their friends were allowed to get married as well. That day has finally come and to celebrate, Kristen proposed to her love, Dax, on Twitter. How romantic! Of course, he said “Yes!” The couple welcomed a baby girl back in March.

“The reason we’re not rushing to get married is because I don’t feel appropriate taking advantage of a right that’s denied to my [gay and lesbian] friends. That’s why we’ve been so hesitant, ” she told The Advocate in 2012. “Dax and I have talked about it a lot, and this issue is very important to both of us. We’re just standing up for what we believe in. Period.”
