The Verge: 50

One of my favorite things about the end of the year is seeing the round-up posts that are circulating on the internet. I know that most people feel kind of overwhelmed or exhausted by it, but the year flies by so fast and often times we miss things – crucial things – or we glaze over an event that really should have deserved more of our attention.

The Verge compiled a list of 50 public figures that have played an important role in 2013 and they come from a wide variety of industries – celebrities, CEO’s, techies, etc. In addition to just being pretty informative overall, the slideshow is visually pleasing.

Check it out here.

How To Contemporary Dance

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQyALIEydbc#t=169]

I really love videos like this. Like REALLY love them because you know that there are people searching this within YouTube, stumbling across it and believing that this is how you should be dancing. I probably wouldn’t ever bust this out in a club, but yes – I have seen this IRL and it’s just the best. I would give infinite high-fives to anyone that could do this routine tomorrow night at Havana in Capitol Hill. It would pretty much make my vacation.

A Sweet Wedding Photo Series Re-Created

We’re a little late to the game on this post, but since it is Christmas and Wedding Wednesday at the same time, I thought that now seemed more fitting than ever to share this post with you. Ben Nunery’s wife Ali passed away from a rare form of cancer two years ago. When they were married, they had their photos taken in a house that they had just newly purchased – completely bare and ready to build up with memories. Now, Ben has decided to move onto a different home and as a sweet gesture and homage to his wife, he re-created their wedding photos with their daughter Olivia.

Happy Holidays from Yow Yow!

Happy holidays readers!

It has been a pretty exciting year for Yow Yow! and in addition to celebrating the holiday season, we’re also celebrating our 5th birthday! Every year that I write this post, I look back on the fact that when I started this blog I was just a measly little freshman living in Seattle. The biggest problem I faced was whether or not I was going to pass my math and theology courses – a very small detail that has no presence in my life today. Friends and family of mine have watched me truly grow up into an adult and as a blog we’ve gone through some happy times as well as really difficult times. There are times when I go an entire day without writing on Yow Yow! especially as of late, but when I receive a like, or a comment, or encouragement from friends… those are things that motivate me to keep on with the blog.

For the first time ever, I flew back home for the holidays and I have to say that it feels like I might be four years behind. Many of my friends from college weren’t from Seattle so they were used to this flying back and forth during the winter season every year. Now that I’m here, I realize that my time in Seattle is so sparse and that more than ever my time is completely stretched. It exhausts me thinking about it which is why I have to take little naps every day to survive. However, being home is now something I look forward to and can really appreciate. With that said, Yow Yow! though not regularly updated as much as we are used to is a lot like home for me. It’s always going to be a part of my daily life in some way or another and as I write here I want to make sure that every post is as meaningful as it should be and treated with care.

Welcome to Yesterday

For some reason (even though I know the plots aren’t the same at all) this reminds me of Chronicle. High school kids have the most exciting lives. Also the girl from the American  MTV version of Skins is cast in this movie. It’s nice to know that she’s been up to something since then!

COUNT EM’ 1, 2…60? 2013

The addition of Spotify in my life has made constructing this list so much more easier. Every year, we count down my favorite songs and in previous years we have had 50, but last year we upped it to 60 and I saw no reason to bring it back down to 50 again. 2013 was an incredible year for music all across the board. I was pleasantly surprised by artists and bands that returned onto the scene and was excited to listen to a new batch of musicians as well. Though I no longer work within music, it is something that continues to be a huge part of my life. This year, Yow Yow! earned passes under our blog name for Capitol Hill Block Party and Bumbershoot – an opportunity that I never thought I would have. I didn’t do anything differently this year with my passes like interviewing artists or bands, but it’s this kind of opportunity that sets the tone for where I want to take Yow Yow! If I want to do that in years to come, I can look into it.

Poquito Wood Wallet

I can imagine that one of the best things about being a guy is having a pretty minimalistic lifestyle. A wallet like this for women would never suffice (as much as we would want to believe we could make it work.) but it’s perfect for just about every guy I know and for that I am infinitely envious. There are plenty of wallets out right now made out of wood and are as slim as this one, but this specific one looks really really good. To learn more and to make a purchase, click here.
