Animal and Insect Sculptures Wrapped in Crochet

Normally, I would find something like this to be a little bit odd and maybe on the creepy side, but I find these oddly beautiful. These crochet wrappings were done by Joana Vasconcelos. As part of an ongoing series, Joana has been wrapping all sorts of animal and insect sculptures – but not any ordinary sculptures that you can find anywhere. These sculptures were actually done by artist Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro (1846-1905), one of the most notable Portuguese artists from the 19th century.

Caught In A Beauty Bind

Processed with VSCOcam with m5 preset

I trade off between spending the week down in the South Bay and my weekends up in San Francisco. Though I’ve done this so frequently, I always end up forgetting to pack something in my weekender and this weekend that “thing” happened to be my entire beauty bag! We had plans to go out that night and while I wish I could say I am comfortable enough with myself to go completely make-up free, that wasn’t the case. I managed to find a moisturizing lotion where I was staying so I had the base covered, but the next thing I needed to do was prioritize. I asked myself two questions: What did I absolutely need to have and where can I get it?

I’m not someone who is big on makeup and knowing everything, but I think I can get by on the basics that my mama taught me. On the priority scale, I decided that I needed black eyeliner, eye makeup remover (if I could get it – to take off the previous night’s work,) mascara, and a foundation.

First stop? Sephora. You might be wondering why I didn’t choose to go to a drug store first and I wondered about this myself, too. Too often, I find myself actually using products from Sephora rather than drugstore brands and while these were just going to be “back-up buys,” you never know when you’re gonna find something that you can either a) end up using for a longer amount of time or b) replace something you already have that maybe needed to be replaced.

Sephora is a store that gets abused by their customers. Too often, people come into the store that don’t want to buy their own makeup and test products all day long until they’ve done their entire look for the night or had someone else do that for them. Using samples at Sephora to do your makeup is kind of gross because as sanitary as they try to make it, that doesn’t usually happen. Gross. I went into the store with a fresh face and only moisturizer and I knew I might speak to some consultants, but I wasn’t going to take advantage of them by not buying anything. The first place I headed to was near the cash register where they have a lot of their basic products in much smaller sizes. The price ranges from about $8-$15. Here is where I picked up a duo combo of eyeliner and eye makeup remover as well as my Tarte mascara.

I’d been wanting to replace my foundation for quite some time as I have been using my Chanel for at least a year. (Should probably throw that out by now, right?) I’ve always been interested in using Benefit’s Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow and this was the perfect opportunity. A consultant matched it with my skin tone. I asked if he could try it on my entire face so that I could see it and I walked away with that purchase at around $36. Altogether from the day I spent about $50 on four things.

Long story short, if you’re ever caught in a bind like this – pick the items that you need and head to your nearest Sephora 🙂 It sounds like they asked me to say that, but I promise they didn’t.

Note: I didn’t love the eyeliner and the makeup remover because it was too greasy so we didn’t include it in the photo.

Proud Owner:

I finally caved! After weeks of having the Catbird website up on my tabs prolonging my purchase of the LoveCats ring, tonight I found myself in a moment of weakness. I had just come back from dinner and I had finished a long work day and was about to pick up where I left off when I decided that making this spend would be a worthwhile one. I’m not sure why it took me so long to purchase this ring. I went through a lot of effort to get here. I kept it up on my tabs which meant that I looked at this tab everyday or rather it stared me back in the face. Secondly, I didn’t know my ring size so two months ago I went into Tiffany’s to just get my ring size taken from someone working there.

Dedication.

And now we get to see you in like 10 days.

The Bachelorette Season Finale Last Night

Spoilers ahead! Last nights “After the Final Rose” was a jaw dropper. We all know what could potentially “happen” during a Fantasy Suite date, but there’s a little part of us that doesn’t – unless it gets outed like it did last night. In the past, contestants like Emily Maynard and Sean Lowe have passed on the Fantasy Suite, whereas Juan Pablo clearly didn’t. With Andi, we weren’t quite sure. That is, until Nick – the runner-up aired out their dirty laundry for all to see asking her directly why she made love to him if she didn’t love him.

Embarrassing.

I’ve been reading on a couple of blogs today and there are a few different stances. Some are wondering if Nick slut-shamed her. Some are wondering if he had been dying to say something like that on live television because she had refused to see him since the show ended.

Here are my thoughts and I’ll try and condense them:

  • Nick seems like a pretty sensitive guy. He is dealing with a heartbreak or maybe it’s just for show, but he looks a little bit torn up. I don’t think he meant to slut shame her because he probably likes sluts (like those on watchmygirlfriend) as much as the next man! But I do think maybe for him (and there are many people that have this point of view!) being intimate in a relationship means a lot more to him than maybe for her. I don’t think it’s wrong for him to question that.
  • If it’s bitterness or resentment towards Andi, then yes – she’s right, it is definitely a low blow. It’s true that that is private and no one really needs to know that.
  • Thirdly, didn’t it seem like everyone was airing out her personal life last night on that episode? First, Nick then Josh and wanting babies? That’s what she gets for being on The Bachelorette I guess.

Overall, … I wish she would have ended up with Marcus. Okay, no. Nick was not the fan favorite throughout the show and I don’t know if people would have been all that happy if they had ended up together anyways. We finished another season though. We hope Andi’s happy. Please tell us who the next Bachelor is. I hope it is Arie.

Hilary Duff’s New Single Is Not Good

[youtube=http://youtu.be/Fj6MjDFD1Kw]

But, seriously. It’s almost like Lizzie McGuire revived her singing career and she didn’t, herself. I half-expected Aaron Carter to appear out of nowhere because this song and this video were so horrid.

Ouch, is that too harsh? Chasing the Sun? R U 4 real.

Monique Lhuillier Spring 2015 Collection

So we don’t have a Wedding Mondays video for you this week. I promise, I tried! I was behind for two weeks on two of my favorite wedding blogs and in those two weeks there weren’t any videos that I was dying to share with you all. I did, however, stumble upon a couple of other wedding posts that we think could be appropriate substitutes.

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how Yow Yow! could transform over the years. There is never a shortage for what I want to do with it and the content. I may be busy with my new job, but I honestly can’t imagine a life without Yow Yow! And I’m really excited to continue on with this. Wedding Mondays is a huge part of what makes this blog and what I love about it is that it is consistent, but that doesn’t mean we can’t dive into other wedding details. Good lord, can you imagine how Yow Yow! will look when wedding moments happen in MY life? – ie) when my friends all start getting married or I become a bridesmaid and can give you a full insider scoop? I can’t wait!

We’re trying something different today. Monique Lhuillier recently released photographs to Green Wedding Shoes on their Spring 2015 collection and while I always thought I loved the very slim looking white dress, I’m starting to be open to new suggestions lately. These gowns are just too stunning to pass on.
