Five Favorite Pins: Beautiful Backdrops

Readers,

I’m currently working on planning a stellar end-of-summer party for my company so naturally my first source of inspiration was to go straight to Pinterest. Anyone that knows me knows that I love a good photo booth. When I was organizing events back in Seattle, I was a huge fan of the minimalistic photo booth that allowed people to just download their photos digitally. Props weren’t absolutely necessary. Pulling back a curtain was so old school. Plus, I was a huge fan of a great backdrop. As I search for the perfect photo booth for this event, I’ve come across several backdrops that I’ve just saved to my Pinterest boards that I can’t help, but look at again once more and wish I could recreate myself! If only I had all of the time in the world to DIY…

Florals never go out of style. This backdrop is perfect for any garden party!

Essie to Launch Vending Machines

First, there were cupcake vending machines, then there were beauty vending machines launched in airports across the country. Essie has now decided to get in the mix and here’s why we think it’s a fantastic idea. First off, if you’re like me then you know what it’s like to be an impulsive shopper and boy – are you aware of the negative effects that come with it. You can walk by a store and you have the self-control to not go in because you know you don’t want to make a purchase or you know you can’t afford what’s in it. But then you walk by something that’s a little bit easier and accessible. Nail polish. It’s cheap. It’s quick. You know it’s going to last you awhile. The vending machine is right now and it’s packed with 48 different shades. There’s just no way you can say no. If I walked by an Essie machine at the airport, I’d probably almost immediately by two.

Starting this month, Essie will unveil their vending machines in mall and airports across the country starting with JFK and Oakland in the JetBlue terminals. It’s a smart move for the company because airports were designed to make you wait around for hours and hours and with delays unpredictably happening, you never know when you’ll need some nail polish to keep you a little bit busy. As for having the vending machines in the malls, I think that’s a bit tougher since you’re right where you’re competition is.

Readers, what do you think? Would you ever purchase Essie polish from a vending machine at the airport?

National Ice Cream Month

Since I’ve moved to California, I am almost certain that I have consumed 80% more ice cream than I ever did in Seattle. Especially since it is National Ice Cream month, I’ve been having it on a regular weekly basis. It doesn’t help that there just happens to always be a shop nearby. My friend Sheila recently introduced me to what is one of the most bizarre flavors I have ever tried. I wouldn’t exactly say it’s the best flavor I’ve ever had, but it is definitely intriguing enough that you would eat it until the very last bite. I believe she told me that the cereal milk ice cream that she either made herself or purchased was inspired by Momofuku. To really up your taste game, be sure to include cereal with it! Duh, right? I think when I had it, Sheila offered me corn flakes, but this cinnamon toast crunch pictured above looks like a game changer.

Fifty Shades of Grey Trailer

[youtube=http://youtu.be/SfZWFDs0LxA]

Well what kind of blog would we be if we didn’t post this trailer as it was released today? I don’t really understand the hype around this movie or these books. Though I haven’t read the books myself, I had a number of people tell me that it wasn’t well written and that they didn’t enjoy reading it. That’s what my friends said about Twilight too, but there were still so many people watching that. I had to watch the trailer because I was intrigued. I figured if it was being released on The Today Show that this had to be a big deal. After watching the trailer, my views on it haven’t really changed. The film is being released on Valentine’s Day of next year – nearly 7 months from now! This was just a 2:25 minute trailer and everyone went nuts. There’s not much else to say about the weird sounds at the end… didn’t that just remind you of some kind of a horror movie?
