Joan Smalls x Free People

I always thought that to wear Free People you had to be a certain type of girl. The girl that shops at Free People is a free spirit, a flower child, and pretty easygoing. She wears light-weight fabric, fringe, and bell-sleeves for long sleeves. As much as I loved the brand, I frequently felt out of place when trying on their clothes. I felt like I was trying to be a girl that I just wasn’t, but so desperately wanted to be because who wouldn’t want to be the girl who wore Free People, right?! She was just too effortlessly cool. I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels that way and maybe the brand recognized this. So what did they do? They picked a girl who wasn’t your typical Free People girl and made her into one and it worked! When I think of Joan Smalls, I think of edgy, a little dark, dangerous, and risky. She is someone who resembles more Erin Wasson than hippie child, but yet she made it work. Here are a few of her latest shots from the brand that make me want to run out and buy these exact outfits.
